Good food high quality and fast service. I was not expecting much when I walked in , but I have been surprised definitely suggest it as a go-to when looking for hibachi

Crossville, TN, a small town with a renown for golfing (of all things?), doesn't have much in it, but I came upon this browsing the local Yelp while here on a serious mental health retreat (depression, y'all; I know a bunch of you commiserate). A small-town restaurant that serves sushi alongside a menu of varied Asian delights that one wouldn't always find in a thousand-entry menu of one's typical Americanized Chinese restaurant? "Okay," I thought, "I'll try it", especially that other reviews seemed to give light this was a pretty good place for something so seemingly oxymoronic. I suppose since they have multiple schedules if you go by the menu front or the hours at the front door (and thus the Yelp entry didn't have hours as yet), I decided to play it safe and come around noon. If it wasn't open after all, I had an alternative plan, but it was. I saw an elderly couple exiting the restaurant as I pulled up, then noticing the "Open" light was on, but flickering like a triggered bug lamp that barely had any juice left in it. I entered at the same time as another middle-aged couple, and the host behind the desk sat me, handing me a menu. I looked around, noticing there was a bar area as well as twin televisions above, one tuned into Star Trek: The Original Series (the episode "The Galileo Seven" was playing) and the other to the ABC daytime show "The Chew". The décor was rather festive. My server came within a minute of my sitting down. I'd been able to preview the menu and had thought I'd wanted the sashimi chirashi bowl, but ended up going with their sashimi deluxe plate, which had 16 pieces of chef-selected sashimi and eight of what the menu described should have been tuna rolls (clarification in a second). I also had looked at the beverages and decided to give their House Tea (a hot tea of blended jasmine and chrysanthemum) a try. My server asked if I'd like to keep the menu, and I elected to do so even though I wasn't sure I'd used it again. She returned fairly soon with my tea, asking if I'd like a glass of water with it too. Sure, why not? The tea was pretty hot, but not all that remarkable in flavor. Still, I liked the fact there was a hot beverage, though I wonder if their green tea would have been any better. The server came back toute-de-suite with my water and a straw. While I was waiting, a slightly-older-than-middle-aged gentleman came in, telling the host who showed him to his seat he'll have his "regular order". I suppose since this is pretty much the only game in a roughly 11,000-person town there would be regulars with standing orders that one would encounter fairly readily. A good sign, still. Fairly soon, my sashimi came out, she gave me a pair of disposable chopsticks, and asked if I'd like one bowl or two for the soy sauce (note, they seem to have only the full sodium soy sauce readily available on the table). She sealed it for me when she presented the chopsticks and asked about the bowls (I went with one), because beforehand I have to say I had a slight bias in my head on whether people came in here ordering uncooked fish products (I call cooked sushi "sinful") with any regularity (bolstered with that I had to point out to her on the menu what I wanted, but thinking back I probably pronounced it "SA-shi-mi" rather than "sa-SHEE-mee"). With that bias, I wondered how knowledgeable she'd be. But she was on point. How dare I doubt? The chef selected standard sashimi fare: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and bonito. The tuna rolls turned out to not have any tuna; instead they had imitation crab stick. This didn't disappoint me, though. The meal was not "wow"-ing, which should surprise no one since it is obviously not upper-crust (probably more so lower mid-level grade), but it was fairly delicious. The salmon and tuna cuts were pretty thick (almost unmanageably so), but I managed to make it work. The bonito was the best out of the four, and I'd say you'd have great fortune if the chef selects it. Of the four -- the rub -- it was the smallest-cut. The wasabi had a slight burn and the ginger was delicious. I left feeling full, and I'm glad I went with going even if I wasn't feeling "up" to it.

I was in town because I was bring a cat back to Nashville (cat transporter, that's me) and I thought I'd get some sushi to go. I'd looked over the two places in town, Crossville has two sushi places, this place & a place called Tokyo. This place had better reviews so I went with it. I called in a pickup order of spicy tuna & shrimp tempura. I hadn't seen a menu, but I figured they'd have those rolls because they're so simple. The girl on the phone told me it would be about 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes after calling & picked up my order. I noticed when I walked in there was sign that stated "two rolls for $9.99" & had a list of different rolls. The two girls working the hostess desk we friendly. I ran to the bathroom first & it was clean. I came back to get my carry out order. For the two rolls it was $10.97 with tax. They handed me my order & I was off. I ate my to go order in the car because I wasn't sure when the person I was meeting to pick up the cat would be there. They gave me some soy sauce packets, two sets of chopsticks, and a cup some something that I think was eel sauce on the bottom and Sriracha with mayo on top? I'm not too sure but I did dip a couple of the pieces in the sauce. I didn't have any napkins in the bag, which was a little annoying. The sushi wasn't too pretty. The rolls looked sloppy and the rice wasn't too finished. A few of the spicy tuna pieces had the spicy tuna oozing out. I like when someone places use pieces of tuna soaked in hot sauce and then put it in the roll. Here, they must use a food processor to annihilate the tuna, then put the spicy sauce with it. It made for a very mushy roll. Both rolls and pieces of cucumber in them. I don't know if that was for texture, because the cucumber wasn't that crisp, or maybe as a filler. The shrimp tempura was average. I guess the shrimp has just been fried because the tempura roll was warm, which isn't my favorite. It made a couple of the nearby tuna rolls warm too. Warm, mushy, spicy tuna, yum! Overall I wasn't blown away by anything I had. I've had much better sushi, and I've had much worse. The pricing was okay for what it was. The rolls were a little sloppy and I felt like they could take a little more time in there preparation. I don't know when I'll ever be back in Crossville, but I'd probably try one of the bbq places.

The food is great and service is good. Atmosphere is not much but great food and reasonable prices bring me back over and over.

My first review for my hobby: Bert's Feast or Flop, where I review my experiences with restaurants…read moreand fast food places to determine whether they are a FEAST or a FLOP. I wanted to start with Thai Cuisine in Maryville because this place deserves more business. Food: 5/5 The food tastes amazing! Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted fresh and you can tell it was made by a chef who truly cares about their cooking. The portion sizes and presentation were excellent and very filling. This was my first time ever trying curry, and I was extremely impressed -- I loved every bite. If you're ever curious about trying curry, get the Yellow Curry. The spice levels range from 1-5, and I got level 2. It had great heat without overpowering the flavors. I also had a bite of my mother's Tornado Shrimp, and it was fried and sauced perfectly. It's hard to sauce fried food well, but Thai Cuisine does it perfectly every time. The vegetables were cooked to perfection too -- they had a great crunch without tasting raw. Lastly, the potstickers are the best in Maryville! ‍ Service: 5/5 The service was professional and super friendly. Our server, Yolanda, was incredibly helpful when it came to deciding which curry I should try and what protein paired best with it. The pacing of the service was excellent because we had time to enjoy our appetizer without feeling rushed into our entrée. You can also tell the cook(s) is passionate about what they do. Atmosphere: 4.5/5 The restaurant was very clean, and the vibes were exactly what you'd expect from a Thai restaurant. My only nitpick was that we were seated next to another group even though there was plenty of space in the restaurant where we could've had a little more room to ourselves. Value: 5/5 The portions absolutely matched the value of what we ordered. I know eating out can get expensive nowadays, but this place is absolutely worth the price they charge. Final Thoughts I absolutely adore Thai Cuisine in Maryville and the employees who work there. They're always friendly and always deliver great food. This will always be one of my go-to spots whenever I'm craving a fresh meal. I just wish this restaurant wasn't so hidden because more people deserve to discover and try it. I'd love to see them move to a more noticeable location someday. If you love Thai food, this is the place to go for a guaranteed great experience! FEAST Overall Rating: 5/5 Would I Go Back?: YES
