The menu was a little confusing but we figured out it was like a dim sum place -- order anything off the menu for a flat price, but you've got to finish your food or there's a charge. I kept it simple with a miso soup and spring rolls for my appetizer, the sweet potato rolls for my sushi coz I don't eat fish and hibachi chicken for my main course. I also got some hot green tea which was an extra charge. We were there around 2:00pm so service wasn't too bad. A little slow occasionally but we got what we wanted in a reasonable amount of time. It quickly became clear that this wasn't just inattentive service--it felt like racial profiling. Staff hovered near my table in a way that was anything but subtle, as if my presence alone required surveillance. Things escalated when I paid in cash. After placing the money in the guest receipt holder and heading toward the exit, I was abruptly chased down by the manager, who stopped me and demanded to know--loudly and accusatorily--whether I had actually paid. The confrontation happened within earshot of other patrons, turning an already uncomfortable experience into something openly humiliating. Even after clarifying the situation--yes, I had paid, and yes, they eventually found the cash--the tone never shifted to an apology. If anything, the staff seemed irritated that I challenged their assumption. No acknowledgment, no accountability, just a quiet retreat and continued coldness. No meal is worth being treated with suspicion and disrespect. There are too many places that value their customers to waste time and money somewhere that makes you feel unwelcome for no valid reason. I've been coming here for years even with management and name change. I recently came here on a weekday for sushi. $15.99 for all you can eat. The menu is very limited at lunch now. Jive noticed the quality decline. It's starting to feel like "fast food" sushi instead of a real sushi experience. I had two rolls, crab Rangoon, and a steak hibachi. Not sure I'll be back honestly. It's mostly just rice, sauce, and fried. The bathrooms are in disarray, with nearly all of the color stripped on the floors. Would recommend trying somewhere else for sushi. Don't quite understand the "hype" or excitement about this place. Wait time is ridiculous for what it is. Sushi is below ok, not the best, but not the worst--close to it. Good Specialty roll and seemed fresh enough. Dessert is a complete joke. Serving size is about a bite. Annoying, but they have ok appetizers. Miso soup, gyoza, seaweed salad, spring roll. Spring roll was not my favorite. Very loud so not ideal for a romantic fare in my opinion. The service was friendly and fast. We had the dinner menu, which had plenty of to offer and at a decent price for all you can eat. Although it's all you can eat, it's not a buffet. You have a server and the sushi and other food is made as it's ordered. Also, it's not just sushi they have sushi, a long list of rolls, but also have noodle, fried rice and hibachi dishes. There's also a kids menu with fries, chicken nuggets and corn dogs. There's a decent choice of appetizers. We went with the avocado salad, shrimp tempura, shrimp shumai, crab rangoons and fried dumplings. The tempura, salad, dumplings and rangoon were good, but I'd probably pass on the shumai, which were fried. Sushi menu is a bit more limited, but we had the shrimp and eel and both were delicious. For rolls, we had the Richmond, and spicy tuna rolls, as well as a couple others I don't remember. They were all tasty. We also had the chicken hibachi which comes with a delicious bang bang sauce. I had a very uncomfortable experience here and feel the need to speak up about it. I was dining with my young child and their father, he left to use the restroom, when our server approached the table while I was tending to my child. He asked something about "pen......" which I didn't hear, and said excuse me?. He then said "pen preference" and then, in a completely unnecessary and inappropriate move, framed his crotch with both hands--gesturing toward the colored pens he had clipped there like I was supposed to choose one. I wasn't even the one paying the bill. It wasn't a joke. It was purposefully performative, suggestive, and left me feeling deeply uncomfortable--especially since it happened right in front of my child. I would have felt the same had my child not been there. I felt caught off guard, disrespected, and honestly violated. It was unprofessional and completely out of line. To be honest, the food wasn't great either, but the behavior of the server is what truly ruined the experience. We have gone here many times previous to this, but after that we won't be back. I left feeling unsettled and frustrated that a family meal could be tainted by such gross behavior. I sincerely hope management addresses this--no guest should be subjected to that kind of conduct from staff, especially in a family setting. read more

Temporarily staying in town and googled this place. Having not eaten all day I saw the Google reviews for this place and in a hasty process sped over here. How anyone can call this "sushi" is beyond me. I didn't realize it was an all you can eat establishment and with that didn't expect the best quality but good lord. All the rolls barely had any fish! The menu consists of mostly deep fried rolls and the rolls with fish come out with some weird paste on top and inside. They're also really heavy on the rice that wasn't the best quality. I tried the unagi sashimi in an attempt to see if it came with real eel and it was quite unpleasant. Extremely disappointing. I've never experienced this level of bad sushi and should have researched it more. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unfortunately. read more

The server was rude and off-putting from the get go with my wife and daughter. No refill on waters, never got a miso soup even after ordering two different times. Poor communication. She kept acting as if she couldn't hear my wife and daughter ordering yet she never reentered anything on her keypad as she should have if she " didn't hear " correctly the first time . This was my birthday meal with the family and super disappointed with the attitude/ game playing. My daughter had the bill holder hanging off table end for ten minutes, both of them even went to bathroom and returned. My daughter took the bill with payment to the cashier to pay so we could make it to the movie. The server came to register, grabbed check and credit card and proceeded to return it to our table . My daughter followed her all the way back to table to get her card. We got to the car and daughter saw she didn't have her credit card so my wife headed back in to see if she dropped it. Sushi Kola is the real deal as far as an affordable all you can eat Asian cuisine restaurant. Our servers name was Will and he was incredibly polite and patient with my fiancé and I. This is my 2nd visit to the restaurant and I firmly believe it deserves 5 stars because of value, service, and overall everything was great. I normally order a ton of appetizers because they come out the fastest. Their miso soup isn't the best I've ever had but it's damn good. All of their dumplings and spring rolls are really good and usually come out in pairs or 4's. Their blackened seared tuna is good, compared to other restaurants it's sliced more thinly but for what I'm paying for I'm not upset. Their steak hibachi is awesome and if you order it to go the portion size is much bigger. I understand 1 thing most people aren't going to like about this restaurant is that it's going to seem that they are going to try and rush you out of there so you don't clean them out. But another good thing about them is their no waste policy. So if you try and order a ton of food and don't finish it, they are going to charge you for any food they have to throw away. This is a great place to get all you can eat sushi. Service is insanely fast; it's usually just the two of us. The hot green tea brand they use is also quite high quality. The sushi is what you would expect for the price and has a fantastic flavor. The hibachi also has A+ flavor, but it's always well done - don't bother asking how you'd like it. I think it's a food safety thing, but sometimes we get lucky and snag little medium rare heavenly tasting pieces of beef! Our server was Makiah, and she was AMAZING. My daughter decided she wanted all-you-can-eat sushi for dinner so we decided to try Sushi Kola (previously called Sushi King...same place, different name). Fredericksburg has quite a few excellent sushi places so this wasn't my first choice, but I let me daughter choose. Place was PACKED so we had to wait about 20 minutes. Being from Jersey, the kind of packed in restaurant during COVID makes me nervous, but we were fine. There were four of us and we went through two rounds of food. Lots of options here from appetizers to hibachi or noodle dishes to, of course, sushi and sushi rolls. I've been to all-you-can-eat sushi places before...and I KNOW they get you on the rolls, fill up on lots of rice with small pieces of fish and you can't eat your $20 worth. Well, I got my $20 worth last night...at least in quantity. The food here seemed pretty average-tasted perfectly fine, but smaller portions, especially the amount of fish in the rolls, but there is so much on the menu you can make it work. Our waitress was great-super nice and did a food job trying to help with explaining some of the rolls to my picky daughter. If you like an all-you-can-eat sushi place you can certainly do worse than Sushi Kola. I guarantee my daughter will be back here soon. read more
