Osan was the perfect fit for our anniversary dinner search: yummy food, pleasant ambiance, and right in downtown Fredericksburg! Fxbg has a few spots for Japanese cuisine, all with their own perks, but I think Osan tops them with the perfectly rounded experience. We were seated very quickly on a chilly Saturday evening and started with edamame, miso soup, and hot tea. We had to leave room for the sushi boat for two (so fun!! always wanted to try this!) with wonderful choices of sushi and sashimi from the chefs. I wish we could customize the choices a bit as the fried roll didn't suit our preferences, but maybe they would accommodate if we had just asked! We had a very good experience at Osan last night. Upon walking in and being seated at around 5:30pm on a Saturday night, we were struck by how organized everything was. It was very busy, but all the employees were in motion and they really seemed to be working well together. Food was great across the board, and the service was very prompt and accommodating. It is a tight and busy place. Not a lot invested in decor, but it was still a great restaurant. All in all, it was maybe a bit pricey, but not out of line for a really good Japanese restaurant. With the appetizer and the beer, it was $73.99 including tax but not including tip. We left full, but there were no leftovers. read more

Dropped in for lunch today after a walk along the river and had a nice meal. The restaurant isn't large with maybe a dozen tables and a sushi bar but the tables were comfortable and not crowded together. There are small pieces of Japanese art on the walls. We were welcomed by a gentleman behind the bar and a server who promptly seated us. The menu is mostly sushi and sashimi but there are some non-sushi entrees and appetizers as well. The selection of sushi rolls is good with some creative options and also in a range of prices depending on the ingredients. We had one of the special rolls, a shrimp cocktail roll with jalapeño slices which was delicious. I also recommend the Salmon Rainbow Roll which was excellent. Spicy Tuna and the Yama were also good. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. I would like to return for dinner in the future and try more of the menu offerings. read more

I'm starting to question the restaurant ratings around Fredericksburg because so many highly rated places, including this one, have been extremely disappointing. This was some of the saltiest food I have ever been served at a restaurant. The sushi did not taste fresh at all, and the lemon slices added to it completely ruined the flavor. Overrated in my opinion. Very few Korean options despite being told the owners were from Korea. Having lived in Korea for several years thought we would give it a try. We ordered the bulgogi and bibimbap. Bulgogi was salty and the portion was way too small for what they were charging. Bibimbap was lukewarm at best and was served in a regular large bowl. Have never had this dish served in anything outer than a stone bowl and comes out sizzling. Overpriced for what you get as well The ONLY reason the rating wasn't lower is because the service was really good and the kimchi was good. Unfortunately my experience with this place has dropped tremendously. I went in today after a very long time to pick up lunch and I wanted to get the chicken teriyaki but I wanted it with Vegetables instead of rice, the lady said no, you can try this other item with veggies and it's made with ginger sauce instead of the teriyaki. I explained to her that I had surgery and I physically cannot consume rice and she said "aww" so I asked could I get this with veggies instead and again "NOPE. If you want chicken teriyaki you have to get it with rice" It literally makes no sense. Why can't someone just get veggies or pay extra even to get veggies instead of the rice. Why push an item on someone who physically cannot consume it. I got up to leave and they were quick to say bye and that was the end of that. Management, please consider allowing customers with restrictions to make minor changes and just charge extra if you need to. Wouldn't that be better than just losing customers? read more

I took my daughter the other day for lunch and we had an amazing time. We usually don't have lunch out but with lunch prices being lower in these expensive times, we decided to do a staycation for starters but it needed to still be special so our special thing was to have lunch sushi at different places three days this week so please know I am comparing this to other sushi spots. The service here was amazing! We were quickly and kindly greeted and seated and our food came promptly and was very good. I will say that in comparison to another restaurant that was on our list, the salad dressing was a little more watered down and - I know it sounds petty as heck but - one of the things that I judge sushi on is the color of the ginger (if using food dyed ginger, what other ingrdients could be improved?). I still give it 4 our of 5 stars because the food passed as solid sushi and I would definitely return if I wanted to eat in downtown where I could easily have a nice walk after (great location for a date with my amazing husband) but if I were going for pickup or wanted to get in and out quickly, I would likely choose a specific different spot with a tad more flavor. read more

A great little spot in downtown Fredericksburg - I was recommended Osan after getting a sandwich at "The Worst Deli" in a different part of Fredericksburg. I heard they split off and started their own place at a sushi joint, so we decided to take a look! The restaurant is small, but not in a bad way. It's a cozy feeling and it has a good ambiance to it. We were seated immediately and surprised by all of the options. The bar seems like the best seat in the house where you get to watch the sushi being made, however we opted for a table. We started with the Chicken Yakitori which was stellar and I would love a whole entree of just this chicken, that's how good it was! My husband is not a sushi eater, so he always goes for Chicken Katsu. He enjoyed his entree, miso, but was a little taken back by the salad included. This was mainly because we're used to the familiar ginger-carrot dressing that is usually included at sushi restaurants. He said it tested a lot more peppery and more like mayo than he was used to. Nonetheless, he still cleared that bowl! I ordered a Shrimp Tempura Roll which was delicious, albeit a bit small in the portion sizing than I'm used to for the price. I also ordered the Jaeyook Bokkeum, which is a Korean spicy marinated pork. I was happy to see more Korean food on the menu and wasn't expecting that. I was told it was about comparable in spice to a medium wing. As someone who moved here from Buffalo, NY, I would say it's a little bit less than a true medium. Enough to make your lips feel a bit warm, but the flavors were great. I would get more in a heartbeat if my stomach could fit all the meat on the plate they serve it on. It also comes with a side of rice if you needed something to help cool your mouth down if you like spice but aren't quite equipped to handle it. I always love to see what people order here while eating and it is overwhelmingly the bento boxes. Because this was already such a fantastic outing, I think that will be on the docket for the next visit! read more

Lovely restaurant in downtown historic Fredericksburg. Very clean and inviting. The usual sushi bar menu (ala carte sashimi and a variety of rolls). Located in the historic walks of Fredicsburg, Osan is a nice option quite different from the old Virginia Fair. The sushi is fresh, and the menu has many combinations so that you can try a litlle of everything. Oh, every table was taken, so you may have to wait a few minutes. Clear standouts included: Hamoro Salmon Nigiri - Order two for a pair. Thick, marbled and slightly seasoned. For sure the dish of the night. Tuna Tataki - Lightly seared Tuna dusted with cilantro and touch of lemon and soy. Bimbimbap - Comforting Korean style mix mix veggie and meats. You'll have left over for lunch. Bentos forever! - All kinds of Bentos that would be perfect for one person, but if like to over order, find a combo with the hand rolls and sushi and have a feast for two. Splitting hairs - They did not have any of the Toro/Blue fin dishes available. Not so great - The Miso soup was luke warm. Amazing sushi in the Fredericksburg area! My family and I normally go to Annandale for sushi but stopped going since the drive (traffic) is too long from Fredericksburg. So for my mom's birthday we came here for sushi. The sushi is so fresh and delicious! The waitress was so kind and wonderful, one of the owners stopped by our table to make sure we were satisfied with our meal, and my family and I just enjoyed our overall experience. I was very excited to try Osan for its sushi. Overall, the rolls were good/okay but on the smaller side than what I'm used to. I had the Haru, Katsu, Dancing Eel, and spicy tuna rolls, all of which I shared with one other person. My favorites were the first two. The Haru has shrimp tempura and the Katsu is deep fried, so you can't go wrong with either. The spicy tuna was not the most tasty, so if I had to do it again I'd choose a specialty roll over a basic one. Overall, Osan was good for Fredericksburg susho Service was very friendly. They only have one sushi chef, so if a lot of orders are ahead of yours, it could take a while. The restaurant is small and can be quiet, which was nice. The lighting could be improved; we had to tilt our menus to read them better. Only street parking is available, and reservations are possible. read more

I was excited to my parents and wife there in honor of Mother's Day. The dining area was cozy and small, it was clean and the atmosphere was elegant but comfortable. The service was good, Mary who sat us was very attentive as well as our server Michelle. Some of the food items were overly sauce with teriyaki. Like for example when the Yakitori chicken skewer arrived on the table. It was hot but wasn't charred and over sauce and a little liquidity. The NY strip steak arrived with the same teriyaki sauce which over powered the quality of the steak. The red snapper, the description says fried. So I'm thinking was skin on fried but when it arrived, it was battered and over pour on the teriyaki sauce. I should of order both dishes with sauce on the side. All dishes was good but just too sweet and sticky. The sushi boat for 3 arrived, it was beautiful and delicious. The only thing was the wasabi, it wasn't spicy enough and it was imitation. The chicken and beef bento box was extremely tender and flavorful. Their sushi tasted fresh and was very good. I recommend their spicy crab shrimp tempura roll. I read a review that recommended the white peach sake and they were right...it's very light and fresh for a drink with your meal. We went on a Saturday at around 3 and it was the perfect time to go. You skip the dinner rush and can enjoy a meal without it being super busy. We will definitely be coming back here many more times. read more

It was not mentioned in the menu nor have I ever had that before, needless to say I'm not a wasabi fan . My wife ordered three different rolls, the rice to meat ratio was about half and half. The sushi rice was dry and falling apart making it difficult to dip in soy sauce without it completely unraveling. Servers were nice and attentive. Restaurant was small and Charming.
