The girls ordered chicken teriyaki and beef habachi while my fiancé and I ordered the Cape May and another roll that had white tuna in the center and crab meat on top. We also added a rainbow tartare dying the course of the meal. The girls enjoyed their meals and we enjoyed our rolls and the tartare. The fish was nice and fresh. The service was very good as well. Away from all of the hustle and bustle of Memorial Day weekend in Sea Isle City, we found this quaint sushi spot. There are limited quality restaurants in Sea Isle, so we figured we would expand our search for the night. I was pleasantly surprised by Sushi Ocean View. We ordered the sashimi platter, Cape May roll (Scallop tempura, avocado roll topped with spicy lobster salad), and Amazing roll (Shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna). The sashimi wasn't the best I've ever had, but the fish tasted fresh and was well prepared. Both rolls were quite good as well. What a great surprise this restaurant was. Some of the best sushi on the East Coast. Faith, the very proud and enthusiastic owner, treats you as if you are her only customer. We just had Christmas Eve dinner here with my family. This place is great. Faith is the owner and serves all her customers. She is amazing; she remembers everyone and what they like. We had a group of eight people and ordered various rolls and dishes. Everything was delicious and the presentation was very appealing. This place is a diamond in an area where there really isn't other choices for Japanese food, but you are not comprising anything eating here. I ordered takeout for 4 adults and one child. It was awful. Chicken tempura was burnt chicken- more like just fried wafers. Gyoza was burnt and tasteless. Barely any chicken in the fried rice or mei fun. And they only gave us a tiny size rice with $90 worth of horrible food. And when we arrived to pick up the food the lady was flustered and irritated w us expecting our food in the half hour she told us it would take. It took an hour for all this. So I've never left a bad review before because the food is very good. The strangest thing happened to us tonight. We got our bill & it was significantly higher (20%) my husband & I noticed that all the prices were different for what we had ordered. We thought we got someone else's bill. I asked to see a menu to compare. We asked the owner/our waitress about our bill. She said oh yeah the prices are higher now they haven't updated their menus yet. We were shocked because you can't just do that. We literally told her she couldn't just jack up the prices on our food like that. She never apologized and then wrote down the old prices to pay. Very sketchy. People look at your bill closely! Ours was $15.00 more! We stopped in around 5:30 on a Friday night and everything started off great. Our server, who I think might be the owner rigged chopsticks for our four year old, took our order and opened our wine immediately. Then people started coming in and it all went downhill. A party of two and a party of six came in after us. Both were served their apps and entrees before we got ours. Then a table of four came in and also got served before we did. The six top and the four top both had hot meals and we had sushi with two fried rolls. At this point, we've been waiting thirty minutes for sushi with a four year old. The server brings us all of the sushi, except for the sweet potato tempura for the kid. We aren't monsters so we weren't going to make her watch us eat. I told the server the tempura was for the kid and she said she would get it right away. Fifteen minutes later she brings it. She was apologizing profusely and I was ready to let it go until she then asked us to pay at the register the second we were done. She didn't even bring a check to the table. Meanwhile the four top and the six top we're long done their meals and were just sitting around chit chatting. Aside from the rude pushy service after making us wait fourty five minutes for sushi, the food wasn't even that good. It was kind of bland. read more

So after reading the reviews I have to say I was disappointed! My husband and I have been eating sushi for many years and yes the pieces were good but the few rolls we ordered were covered in sweet soy sauce... I couldn't tell what roll was what? The TNT roll was supposed to have caviar on it.. i had to ask about the caviar and she said I can give you a little bit.. weird! It should of been on the roll! The second roll was a shrimp tempura roll also smothered in the soy drizzle.. you could barely taste/see the shrimp.. since when does shrimp tempura roll have avocado in it?? I feel that they were trying to deceive us! Like I've never had a shrimp tempura roll before?? Well never with avocado and covered in sauce! We will deff not be going back! read more

I used to go here, and the salmon sushi was always pretty good, but I always felt that the decor really needed updating. The front of the restaurant is also very unkempt with plants that need pruning (and removing). The furniture is dated and old, and although the low booths with cushions add to the ambiance, they need to be cleaned and updated. I stopped going because one day, when I went in for takeout, the fishy smell was unbearable. It turned my stomach, and I left and never went back. Sushi shouldn't smell fishy. The fact that it smelled that bad in there means that something was wrong. It's a shame because the owner is always very friendly and seems to enjoy what she does. The waiters were always good too - but there are definitely a lot of improvements that need to be made if this restaurant wants to stay in business. read more

Ok, so I feel bad giving this place only 3 stars since the owner is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Not only that, she is a very hard worker, as you will see on most nights, she not only is the stand-in cashier, but also acts as the only waitress, food-runner, take out person, bus-girl, or whatever else you'd like to call it, she's it. That said, because of this, you'll often also wait extra long to get waited on, get your food, get your check, or even pick up your take out order, which can take forever. In other words, there's a lot of standing around or sipping on hot tea at your table if you know what I mean. Then there's the food, it's not bad, but it's not the best either. In fact, the downfall is really the rice, which really makes the sushi of course, it is often just too dry and too sticky. It's like the rice has been sitting around a little too long waiting to be used. And it's a shame too, because the rest of the food is pretty good. And the specials are often great. But still, the hand rolls are why many people come to a Japanese restaurant establishment and these rolls are often just not up to par. And it is for this reason, I really don't order take out from here anymore. Which in a small way is sad, because even though I only live a few miles away and I want to support my little local business, if I really want hand roll sushi, I usually just suck it up and travel the extra 10 minutes into CMCH because I know it will be perfect nearly every time. Still, in a pinch, this place is decent enough, and I even know many people that love it and the sushi rolls themselves. So IDK, maybe I'm too picky, maybe it's just me. read more

This place was hands down the worst service I have had in a very long time. Super unprofessional and nonchalant servers. We just left the restaurant without our complete order. It was the 3 of us with a toddler. It took them 10 mins to even acknowledge we were there and take our drink order. An additional 10 mins for an order of edamame, which we specifically asked to get ASAP due to our daughter being super hungry. The main waitress took our order after 20 mins and didn't write it down resulting in an incomplete order. People that got seated after us got their order before us! This is a small restaurant and it wasn't packed so there wasn't any reason for our food to take 45 mins. We had 4 rolls and a order of shrimp. After 45 mins when we pulled the waitress to the side, she kept saying it's because they have a new guy in the kitchen. We told her to box up our food. She didn't have the shrimp tempura ready and forgot about the rock shrimp! Also, she gave us $10 back, so an extra $4 because she forgot the shrimp tempura. She was giving us bad excuses for the bad service. She also failed to check up on our table while we were waiting for our late order. We left the restaurant hungry and super frustrated. It's the highest quality fish in the tri-state area. Easily beats all "high-end" Philly establishments (Moriomoto, Pod, Zama,) truly kills them. Better than most "top rated" NY and San Fran sushi places I've been to and the only fish quality I can same it competes with is Izumi on Passyunk Ave in PHL and Akaoni in Carmel, CA. BUT for the price-point I still give Sushi Ocean View the win. read more
