Born and raised in NYC so i'm a little bit of a sushi snob so I walked into this spot a little skeptical... but WOW this place really delivered!! The fish was fresh...the rolls were BIG and the menu is huge. Great combinations too...really impressed! Both menu's (the AYCE menu and their regular menu) have a ton of options. I mean you're not getting bored here. And for all-you-can-eat...you honestly cannot beat the value. They've got plenty of cooked options if that's your thing, but as you can clearly tell from my plate in the photo I was here for the sushi and the sushi only and it was totally delish. I saw some reviews on here complaining about the wait for food BUT honestly...that's not a negative at all. It just means everything is fresh to order which is a HUGE plus in my book. I waited about 15-20 minutes during lunchtime with a restaurant 75% full and didn't mind one bit. I'll wait every time for fresh sushi!! Also random but important I had to use the bathroom while I was there and it was spotless. That always tells you everything you need to know about a place. Super impressed overall. I would've liked to have given a five star review, especially since it was our first time trying this place out. The only reason why I'm giving it four stars is due to the service we received. She may have been having a bad day, but it seemed like she was not very happy and she can only do one thing at a time. We were never given refills on our drinks and it seemed like an inconvenience to ask her for something. We had to ask other servers to help us out a few few times. Aside from that, we got the buffet. They serve it to you in increments just like most places nowadays. They don't want you to leave with any leftovers so we did order a little out of time. The sushi was fresh and delicious. With the buffet, they do offer dessert and appetizer, but your drinks are not included. They seem to be pretty busy so I'm guessing it's a favorite place for many. read more

Although this is primarily a Sushi spot, and an AYCE one if you choose, I came specifically to try some of their traditional appetizers. The complete Japanese menu contains a bit of all the traditional items. This place has been opened less than a year, and occupies the spot that was formerly ISE of Japan in Cloverdale Shopping Center. I placed a take out order for Shrimp Tempura, and Golden Spiders (fried Soft Shell Crabs). The order was ready in about 20 minutes, and I was on my way - I had already purchased a Pepsi from the Harris Teeter, which would allow me at least two lunches at about $2.55 - less than half the cost a most restaurants. Sodas, tea, and such are among the highest profit margin items -usually marked up 70% or even more! The Soft Shell Crab was just OK. The main body was not included, and the various cut up parts were poorly breaded, barely seasoned. The Shrimp Tempura was a very nice dish, well breaded, nicely fried, excellent flavor and texture. The vegetables included were broccoli, white onion, mushroom, and zucchini - all also nicely breaded and fried. There was a sweet chili sauce that was very nice. read more

I'm really conflicted about my review. I've been to several AYCE (All You Can Eat) sushi places in the past, and many have struggled. This restaurant definitely had some issues with timing. My son and I went there for dinner on a Sunday at 5:00 PM. When we arrived, no one greeted us right away. After a moment, a woman told us to wait, but what was supposed to be a minute turned into five. The server was nice, and when I asked if she was okay, she explained that the internet had gone out earlier that day and they were having a long day. Most AYCE sushi places give you a sheet of paper to write down your order, but here, the server took our orders on a tablet. I didn't really like that method because I would have preferred to place multiple orders at once. We ended up waiting around 30 minutes for our food. When it arrived, it was just okay--not great. ALL YOU CAN EAT sushi! And it's delicious. We did a Thursday night 6:30pm walk in to this little spot and were seated right away but it filled up quickly afterwards. The staff were super busy but always friendly and quite gracious considering how all you can eat ordering is so sporadic. Sushi Sho was a great find. We had just gotten a big snow and almost everywhere else in Winston-Salem was shut down, but they were open and packed. Even with the crowd, it was absolutely worth the wait. The prices are very reasonable and the sushi is top notch, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I ordered three rolls and every one of them delivered. I also had the chance to talk with the owner, and she was incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can tell she really cares about her customers. I really wanted to have a great experience here. We stopped in on a date night and were immediately greeted and received the run down of how they operate. We were seated and chose the à la carte option. The restaurant was about 3/4 full. We were ignored for about 15 minutes before we were able to order drinks and food. After 20 more minutes passed, we asked for our orders to go as we no longer had the time to wait and eat. The manager on duty got an attitude about changing our dining method but we explained we'd been there for 35 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes for our 3 sushi rolls. We went for AYCE at lunch. So excited to finally have an AYCE sushi in Winston. It's a 2 hour limit and you can definitely get more than your moneys worth. It was quite busy even on a weekday lunch, so some orders were delayed or forgotten but they were very great at remedying and checking in with us which I appreciated. Favorites were the crab, so buttery and flavorful. And the sesame balls was a winner - it was light and fried and not too heavy. Now that High Point and Greensboro have multiple AYCE sushi options, it was only a matter of time before Winston-Salem got in on the act. The more, the merrier, and Sushi Sho clearly serves a need. That said, if you aren't coming here specifically for flat-rate fish and rice consumption, there are better options. Sushi Sho is reasonably spacious, which is a plus given how busy they keep. I stopped by for lunch around 12:30 on a Monday, and there was a fairly steady stream of customers before and after me. They seemed understaffed given the volume, but both the front-of-house staff and sushi chefs were hustling at a commendable rate. Tiffany (I think?) provided good service despite doing what looked like the work of at least two people. Not wanting to commit to an AYCE experience just yet, I opted for a regular menu and took a seat at the bar. Pricing is another point in Sushi Sho's favor. AYCE runs under $20 for lunch and under $30 for dinner. I went with the sushi roll lunch, which also proved plenty affordable: any two classic rolls with miso or salad for about $12. Even with the specialty rolls removed from the equation, there were plenty of appealing options. I ended up picking an Alaska roll and a spicy yellowtail roll. Unfortunately, the food here was merely OK. The salad was mostly lettuce though the requisite ginger dressing didn't disappoint. Typically, an Alaska roll is an "inside out" (fish on top) concoction, but not here. Composition aside, the salmon and avocado left no reason for complaint. However, the same cannot be said for the yellowtail roll. Dry rice, an absence of spice, and an abundance of crunch in the middle made this roll one I would avoid in the future. If you have time and patience to spare, you can find a good value here, but on food alone, Sushi Sho is only so-so. read more

We came for the all you can eat sushi menu. Everything was delicious and fresh. This is the only all you can eat sushi restaurant in Winston-Salem with another on the way. Given this, the only other restaurants to compare to are sushi Kingdom, Mizumi, and Mr Tokyo which are all in Greensboro. I feel like the ALCE menu is less extensive here at Sushi Sho compared to the competitors. Also in order to get Sashimi, it is an extra $5 added to the already $27 for Dinner cost. Given this, the competitors come out on top as far as options vs cost. However, with the cost of gas, driving to Greensboro will more than make up for it. I do personally favor the Greensboro restaurants for their more extensive menu options however. All in all, Sushi Sho was a good experience and I recommend visiting if you live in Winston-Salem and love Sushi! read more

My favorite that menu item they have is the spicy kani salad it reminds me of the one I used to get in New York. As you can see everything is a good portion and you can order however many you want. If you do not want all you can eat you can also do à la carte. But you will definitely get your moneys worth here. There are some things that feel less traditional-- like sauces that taste like ketchup is the base, and crab rangoon that is heavier on cream cheese than I've ever had. Well I am going to be the first to review the first All You Can Eat sushi spot in Winston-Salem! I have always thought it was kind of crazy that there are four AYCE sushi spots in Greensboro and High Point but not a single one in Winston. Now the Camel City has one, and I'm here to tell you about my experience during their soft opening. First the good, convenient location, plenty of parking, no frills clean dining experience. It's a simple place, no over the top gimmicks like sushi trains and robot servers (nothing wrong with that). My very human server, Tiffany, was excellent even though she was working the entire restaurant at about half capacity. Drink never empty, order picked up and delivered promptly, she was hustling! Also really good, the appetizers. Both the shumai and gyoza were some of the best I've had lately. Lovely texture, not overcooked or hard, I was tempted to order more of each but wanted to spread my tummy real estate around. For sushi, you can order up to 10 pieces of nigiri sushi per order cycle without an extra charge. So if you're someone who wants to get a lot of fish in you, you can. Some places charge extra for these pieces, especially at lunch. I had snapper, salmon, and tuna nigiri and all of them tasted great with the rice pillow not being overly large. I ordered three specialty rolls and that was definitely all I could handle for the day. The rainbow roll was quite good. The other two rolls sadly, I did not enjoy (snow white and shaggy dog). There was soooooo much batter on the shrimp or "crunch" added that it made them taste incredibly dry. I was taking my chop sticks and literally punching out chunks of it, then eating the piece... which made it better. However, this is a soft opening, they are learning. My excellent server asked for feedback, and I showed her all the stuff on my plate I had punched out and explained the effect it was having on the taste and texture of the sushi, while also telling her about all the other great flavors and items they nailed. She was very receptive. A clear desire to get this right, and I definitely appreciate that willingness to learn and collect feedback. Hence the 5 stars, even when a couple of things weren't so great. If you like quality sushi and a good deal THIS is the place for you! All you can eat sushi lunch for $17.99 and $27.99 for dinner. I'm going to start by saying I'm vegetarian, so my review may not apply to most people. We were so pleasantly surprised with the selection of veggie options but also that the waitress allowed us to customize some of the rolls to be vegetarian. We tried 3 rolls - sweet potato, caterpillar (without crab) and sho (without crab). All of which were fresh and excellent from a vegetarian perspective. Going to give this place 5 stars for how awesome it was on day four of their opening, with room to improve of course. They were happy to take our reservation for a party of 8 which isn't always easy at an AYCE place! The tables inside are a little close together, but they were able to grab tables together for us. Food itself was tremendous! All of the appetizers and rolls were hot and freshly made. It was a bit on the slower side (took us about 45 minutes from ordering to start getting things), but the manager came up to us after our meal and acknowledged that they are still hiring/training more employees and looking for ways to speed up. Given another chance, Sushi Sho performed better than during my initial visit. Processing and preparing orders moved more smoothly this time, though there's still a bit of delay in getting the waitstaff back to the table, especially for follow-up orders. They seem unwilling to take additional orders until each customer's plates are completely empty AND until those empty plates have been taken back to the kitchen. Still, this method was faster and more consistent than the approach they previously used. Paper order slips are gone, by the way, replaced by tablets that the staff use to enter each order. All my orders came out correctly. The tuna tartare was easily the best thing I had. Most of the maki (rolls) was especially heavy on rice, and that washed out much of the flavor from the rest of each piece. I thought the nigiri was better balanced in terms of rice/fish content. I wanna like this place, and bumping them up to four stars is a favor based upon the improvements I saw. 3.5 stars is probably closer to where I'd put their rating. read more

We love a good all you can eat sushi place. Typically we had to go out of town to enjoy it. Now we have an awesome place intown. From the moment we stepped in the door we had the best experience with the service and food. Our server was so sweet and made the visit even better. We stared with miso soup and salad. Both were delicious. All of the sushi we had were fabulous. The fish to rice ratio was generous and tasted fresh. We prefer more simple rolls and my son loved his first hand roll. I also had the sweet potato tempura. I like that you pick the vegetables you want as well as shrimp. I also like how they list the number of pieces which helps with over ordering. If I could only rate our waitress Maree, I will give her 5 stars. The environment, 4.5 stars. Unfortunately that maybe about it factor in food quality and price. It is all you can eat, we don't have high expectation on sashimi grade quality, but if you make it clear 10 order per person per round, with 2 hours limit, you should serve quicker. We were a group of 4, when we arrived on Sat lunch, just 30min passed the opening hours, the place is 1/4 full, we were seated, upgrade the AYCE to sashimi (another $5 per person), order our 40 pieces for the table in 10min, then we had to wait for an hour before the entire order was served. Throughout that hour, we cannot wait longer so we added another order, much smaller, like 14-16 pieces, that takes another 30-40min. This is the first time we ever ate at an AYCE and did not feel full after 1.5 hrs passed. We had to order fried rice dish in order to feel fed. I was so excited to know we got an AYCE here in WS, but I have to ask, please serve faster. read more

This was not my first experience in this space, as I went here when it was another establishment many years ago. However, for $27.95, this place is a great deal. This is the price of the all-you-can-eat sushi, appetizers, and dessert. My partner and I got many different rolls and were satisfied with them all. We started off with Edamame, which was easy to peel and quite lovely. I got two specialty rolls, and she got one specialty roll and a handcrafted roll. For that, and the edamame alone, would have been over $28, just for my two rolls and edamame at any other sushi restaurant. This was undoubtedly a good deal. To finish, we had deep-fried Oreos, and I could wax poetic about how delicious they were. But, simply put, they were Oreos in a tempura style, better, the cookie was hot and melting within the batter, so once you bit into it, it just dissolved in your mouth into ooey goodness. I will be back, and I will be bringing friends! The only thing you must be careful of is that you must finish the rolls you do not finish, or you will be charged "extra" for those, but I understand the strategy, and they make that VERY clear when you order and on the menu. read more

The service was friendly and personable. The staff was rushing around and moving fast- the food was a little slow to come out but it was busy when we arrived. There was a small wait. I recommend studying the menu before you come in and placing a bigger order right away, if you do small orders a little at a time you may be sitting hungry for a while. We had time to place about two orders with rolls and appetizers in each, and then a quick dessert order. The appetizers were quick to come out, the rolls slower. The desserts came out quick. The fried Oreos are amazing! I had never had one before. We also tried the strawberry ice cream and it's the best iv ever had! Just so good. It was well lit, but not too bright, everything was clean, and we had SO much fun. I was surprised there was not a more extensive drinks menu but it did the job. I had heard of this place but did not know it was open already. From the outside it does not look like much. Located in a strip mall, it does not look like much from outside. The sign is a simple banner hung out front above the front doors. However once you walk in you feel the warmth of the place and it's very relaxing. There is plenty of table space and also a sushi bar. You can order a la carts or All you can Eat! My wife got Beef Pho a la carts. The rest of us got the AYCE. Our waiter was a nice young g man who was super attentive and patient with us. We started with appetizers of Gyoza which was cooked to perfection with a tasty filling unlike any other I have ever tried. I think k they boil them a bit before pan frying them. The Kani salad, spicy or regular, is exactly what I wanted. Crab meat thinly sliced in spicy mayo! The spicy shrimp was also perfection. The tempura shrimp and veggies was ok, nothing to brag about. The miso soup was flavorful also. Mo d you, you can order these things over and o er so I got two orders of gyoza and 3 of the spicy Kani salad. For Sushi I went with the Double Spicy Roll which had spicy Kani, spicy tuna, spicy mayo and some crunch on top. It was not overly spicy and was the perfect blend of each ingredient. I also got the Pink Lady which had snow crab, spicy cream cheese, mango and avocado. It did not sound like all these ingredients should go together but they worked wonderfully as my taste buds exploded with happiness. I also tried the Shaggy Dog which was another blend of great ingredients. I was bummed that they were out of the Red Bean and Green Tea Ice cream, but I got vanilla and also some FRIED OREOS & Banana Tempura. Both were served hot and went well with my ice cream! I gained 5 pounds but it was all worth it! There were a lot more dishes on the menu like noodles, but I had no more space in my tummy. Sushi is often expensive, but the weekday lunch special at this restaurant is exceptional value. For about $18, you get all-you-can-eat sushi with quality that's notably higher than most sushi restaurants I've visited across the U.S. Having lived in Japan, I consider my standards for sushi fairly high, and this place meets them impressively well. This isn't a buffet--you order directly from the menu, and they continue bringing dishes until you're full. The selection includes a wide range of appetizers such as tempura, dumplings, and salads. It's easily the best sushi deal I've found in the Piedmont Triad area, and I often come here on heavy workout days. My only suggestion would be for the wait staff to be more attentive; they sometimes don't scan the room for guests needing service, and I've occasionally waited around 15 minutes before having to flag someone down. Otherwise, this restaurant is an outstanding value, and I plan to return soon. read more
