The vegetable roll was ok, as was the avocado roll. Yes, the avocado roll is absolutely stuffed with avocado, but I would say it was actually overstuffed, throwing off the ratio of flavors. All right, good decent Japanese food at good prices! So my disclaimer is that I'm half Japanese, half Korean, parents born and raised in Hawaii and they know how to cook and I've grown up with a little of everything Asian cooking. Came in for lunch with a friend. Had this deluxe bento box with tempura, California roll, inari sushi, teriyaki chicken, tamago sushi, rice, a couple of shumai, and tsukemono, all for $14.95. We did get miso soup, too. The food was really good. The teriyaki chicken was the least well-prepared, being a little dry. The tempura was excellent. It came with one ebi (shrimp), a long green bean, carrots, sweet potato, and broccoli. All were very, very good. The tempura dipping sauce was excellent. The service was a bit lacking. Yes, they were slammed for lunch, but it did take a while to get our order and we were never checked on for water refills. I'll be returning to see if their katsudon is any good. The 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I'm really impressed with how big the rolls were and how much sauce was given for a take out order, it was really appreciated especially for discounted rolls. I have been to Sushi-Ten several times over the years and find that I leave satisfied, but never overly impressed. What I love in summary: 1. Nice, central location 2. The shotgun floor plan works very nicely 3. AYCE deal around $20 is spectacular 4. No limitation placed on the AYCE eel (what, what!) 5. Soy paper is on the menu 6. Red snapper is on the menu, too I appreciate that Sushi-Ten does not drown the eel in eel sauce like so many sushi restaurants in town. The octopus tastes like it has actually been massaged -- certainly not for an hour, but not for only 15 minutes either. The salmon roe has a nice, full taste. But the mackerel is nearly flavorless, the spicy scallops are not at all spicy and I find that the service can be lacking. On multiple times the servers have left used plates on the table throughout the duration of the meal. I recommend the AYCE. Their happy hour is amazing!! I went with a few of my friends and we got there at 4:45 on a Friday since the happy hour closed earlier that day. We were able to order in time for the half-off sushi's. I very highly recommend going to their happy hours, because they have lots of options to choose from, and everything on the menu is half off. With every order, you get complementary miso soup and a choice of salad or edamame. They also have all-you-can-eat options for about $20. My friend got that, and she was able to try lots of different sushi's - she told me that her favorite was the "Kiss Me" roll that had pink soy paper wrapped around. I also was able to try some of my other friend's Vegas roll, which had a lot of fish inside it. I personally got the Rainbow roll, which I enjoyed. From Monday to Thursday the Happy hour goes from 11am until 7pm and the specials on food and drinks look awesome so that we will come back again to try out. On arrival we had very friendly staff greet and seat us quickly. As we were seated Miso soup arrived and we were offered Edamame while our drink orders were taken. We had a Sake bomb, Plum Wine which arrived quickly. We were not that hungry so we had a Vegas Tempura and the Chef's Choice 7pc Nigiri Sushi (we asked for no shrimp and it was accommodated). The Vegas Tempura was rolled thick with wide pieces, yum. The Nigiri was a decent size. Edamame was not salted, which is fine. The place has a sushi bar and tables. Lots of room. There were two small (19 or 21") TV's to watch sports, which was not very convenient, but decent to check scores. On entering my eye caught the large selection of Ramune and Pocky Sticks and other Japanese candy and drinks at the front, my daughter loves that stuff. The rug seemed a little dated and the restrooms were clean. No issues and we were checked on frequently. I love Sushi and this restaurant came highly recommended by a coworker. I ordered online which was my only complaint. I couldn't tell if my order had gone through, it was a bit difficult to navigate and I ended up on a blank screen. That being said my order did go through (I called to verify) and I was able to pick it up about 12 minutes later which is amazing because not all lunch breaks last a long time. The staff was friendly, the presentation was nice. My food was delicious and incredibly reasonable in price thanks to their awesome lunch specials. What a disappointing dining experience. I wanted to catch happy hour after a long week and sushi sounded great. Calling around this was one of the few places in town that offered HH. The food came out in a random order....beef udon first, then the appetizer then the rolls. My teriyaki beef NEVER came. And the waitress never once came back to check on us so...... The food was nothing spectacular so I made the decision to not flag her down and get the teriyaki. After nearly 2- hours in the restaurant we flagged the waitress down for a to-go box and the check. Yep, my meal was on the bill, so we told her it never came out. She kinda 1/2 laughed and said "oh, sorry!". I quickly said and yes you never came back to the table to check on us so I couldn't tell you. I guess my sarcasm went over her head because she just stared at me, no apology. I'm still not sure how our bill was $49. and some change with the beer, sake and rolls being 1/2 off. When I went up to the front to ask, the lady said oh, I take 1/2 off. I pointed out on their regular price menu and the HH menu, the prices were the same. But the amount never changed. I was so frustrated and wanting to get home that I just paid it. My 1-star is based on the overall dining experience. If I were to rate just the food, I would give 2-stars. Not the worst I have had in Tucson, but definitely not the best. The sushi rolls were not flavorful although the menu descriptions would lead you to believe they are. The tempura was fine...but unless it's burnt it's kinda hard to mess this menu item up. So I have been here a few times. The service is decently good. The staff is nice and efficient. Wait times are not bad. The kitchen works at a consistent, decently fast pace, no matter how many people are in the restaurant. So if there are not many customers, you will get your food faster. If you see that they have 10 sushi slips in front of them, take a chill pill and have good company. Understandably, you will have a little wait. Their sushi is fairly fresh, especially since we are in Tucson and we are in the middle of the desert. They cut it well and portion sizes are average to slightly above average. The one negative that I have, and it is strictly personal, is that the rolls that have cream cheese in them have too much cream cheese. I find that 1/4 inch by 3/8 inch pieces of cream cheese are too large. The big positive I have is their "All You Can Eat" menu. Their "All You Can Eat" has almost everything that their regular menu has which is great. I do not like when I restaurant restricts you to a quarter of the menu. Sushi Ten let's you go completely for it and it is great. Overall a good place to go to and hang out. read more

When you order sushi from a REAL sushi restaurant your sushi shouldn't smell foul. The fish should have little to no smell at all. If you go to a sushi restaurant or order sushi to your house and you can smell it when you open the box or put it close to your face DO NOT EAT IT, IT IS BAD. Same ladies have been running the table staffing for as long as I can remember and if you're a regular, they will remember you. The all-you-can-eat sushi here is probably one of the best deals in town. I think it gets overlooked because of the location and less flashy decor than Sushi Garden. The quality and selection of the AYCE is also more expansive than any other place I've been here in Tucson. They have both fresh water eel and sea eel, and all of the specialty rolls on the AYCE menu plus complimentary edamame/salad and miso with your order. Some of my favorites are their eel nigiris, negi hama roll, and softshell crab roll. If you're not super hungry for AYCE, they also have a variety of combo meals including a "Boat for Two" for less than $20.
