Wow! What a treat! We've lived here for 4 years and have FINALLY found our sushi spot. My party of 3 ordered various rolls and they were all superb. Everything was fresh and delicious. It was a fairly busy Saturday afternoon but we were seated quickly. Space is a bit tight in the main dining area, but it's not a bother at all. Our service was superb. Ananya was incredible and very attentive to us. She answered all of our menu questions with ease and exuberance. We will for sure ask for her when we come back, which will no doubt be very soon.

Hot and sour MUSHROOM soup Go back to old recipe please!!??

Not the same since Kathryn and Jason, previous owners left and new owners took over I Brought home hot and sour soup Maybe they have to use up old mushrooms but this is second time The soup is almost ALL MUSHROOMS It's just gross Staff not nearly as friendly except old crew Used to be 10/10 for food service and ambience Now food 5/10 service 8/30 Ambience 6/10 Jason cared about who he hired Not so Sure about new mgt

Arrived 4 minutes after Sushi Uni opened for lunch and the tables were already filling. 40 minutes later the restaurant was filled. I don't usually like uni but it was fresh here and tasted excellent. I've never had baby octopus. It was good but would order regular taco nigiri the next time. Fast and excellent service. Casual but bustling atmosphere.

As someone who's gluten intolerant, finding sushi spots with safe options can be a challenge and Sushi Uni made the experience easy and enjoyable. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and confident about what I could and couldn't have. They offer an impressive number of gluten-free options, which immediately earned major points. What I ordered: *Honey wasabi on the side: definitely a rare find at most sushi spots. * 87th Street Roll: was really good * KC Chiefs Roll: wasn't for me; it had a lot going on flavor-wise and didn't come together well. *Salmon Katsu Fantasy Roll (no eel sauce, added jalapeños + spicy mayo), and that one was absolutely delicious. Cocktail options are somewhat limited options I didn't care for but they make up for it with a wide variety of sake to explore. Overall, a great experience and definitely a spot I'll be returning to.

always so fresh and amazing. their service is always great even when super busy! 10/10 recommend!

The fish is fresh and well prepared. We loved the rolls and sashimi. It is very affordable and not overpriced as well. Service is prompt and responsive. Definitely my go to place for affordable but high quality sushi!

Sushi UNI has somewhat of a cult following in the KC metro. It's nestled into an unassuming strip mall in Lenexa, and is well known for offering spectacular lunch deals. Over a year ago I tried it out for the first time but it was so packed at lunch I couldn't get a table and had a just okay experience. I'm glad I came back and had a chance to really take it all in. Knowing it fills up for weekday lunches I met my sister here for an early lunch around 11:15 and we were able to get right in and snag a seat. It should be noted that even on a Monday this place filled up and by the time we left it was at capacity with a wait forming. Their website is a bit misleading as when I checked this week it still had the old lunch prices of around $10 for two rolls, soup or salad, and two crab rangoons. I was in awe of this deal so when I saw that the prices had bumped up to $12 I was not surprised - I still think $12 is a great deal in today's economy for TWO sushi rolls, soup, and two crab rangoon. You also get tons of rolls to choose from so it's a really fun lunch experience. When our food came out it was a lot so I think next time I might even go for the one roll lunch, but it was such a great meal and even after tip was good value. The servers were nice, the hot and sour soup was honestly some of the best I've ever had, and I loved the sushi. I'll be back!

This place is popular for a reason, that's for sure. We have only been here once since there doesn't seem to be a way to make a reservation and the place is always crowded. We got lucky the other day since we wanted an early dinner and we managed to snag the last available take before the big rush. Our server was friendly and prompt. The food portions were very generous. I am a big fan of lemon rolls that were popular in California, but hard to find here. Sushi Uni has both a salmon and a tuna options. I'd love to come back and try the tuna.

Sushi trio for lunch. KC roll. Steak hibachi with fried rice.

This place never disappoints. We usually come in for dinner, but Friday for lunch. They have a great lunch menu, which offers high value for not just sushi, but even hibachi style entrees. My favorite role, KC roll, was not part of the lunch special, so I had to obviously order that on the side as it is a staple every visit. The servers are very friendly. It gets pretty busy, so immediate seating might not be guaranteed.

Food - A solid contender for Best Sushi in town. Service - Good. Ambiance - It's a sushi place with tables and a 6 seat sushi bar. Haven't been here in what seems like years, glad to be back, ordered my "not-so-usual". Spicy Crab Salad, 87th roll and UNI roll. SC Salad is a very generous portion, and mighty tasty, especially with some low-sodium soy sauce. Plenty of crab stick, seaweed, cucumber, and some very mini-croutons aka crunch. Both rolls are delish, each containing their own unique flavor and texture. They also have a wide variety of sake, beer and wine to maybe throughly pump up your bill. Luckily even as of 9/25, their prices are still pretty reasonable, compared to others in KC

I returned to this establishment in December and was immediately greeted by the hosts. They were very friendly. When we were seated, I ordered the lunch special which included 2 crab rangoons, a soup/salad, and three rolls! The food was warm, delicious, and well proportioned. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're craving sushi, especially for a great price! I will definitely return.

Awesome place to get some sashimi and sushi. Add this place to your list of your favorites now. The fresh cut of fish are reasonable big for the price and worth it. Can't go wrong with the platter so you can get a bit of everything. It's good to share with your love one so you can experience the delicious together. Love coming here and oh the salads here are good as well too. Can't go wrong with anything here. Will come back.

    Yum!

The lunch special can be pretty darned good! Finding a parking spot and a table is not easy 11:30-12:30, but wait until 12:45 and the place opens up again. The service is extremely fast and attentive. I have eaten there about five times and it was always a good experience.

The staff was friendly and helpful, and the space was charming, with a Japanese cooking show playing on a wall mounted tv, nice music playing in the space, and eclectic decor throughout. Everything was also very clean and organized, and I appreciated the amazing prices for the food! The quality is on par with other Japanese restaurants I have been to, which often charge more even for their lunch special. I'll absolutely be returning to Sam's in the future to try more of their food!

I would like to be very honest here, I was really misled by the ratings and reviews here on Yelp…read more While I thought the decor was really nice, added a cute Korean and Japanese touch, the food did let me down. We got the Yummy Combo with Garden Salad ($17), the Mango Tango Roll ($14), and the Sakura Blossom Roll ($14). The service was fast, and our server was very sweet and caring. To begin with, even though the sushi looked colorful and appealing, it lacked taste. It was missing seasoning, felt stale, and had almost zero freshness. It reminded me of the premade sushi you get at PanAsia, Target, or Sam's Club. Freshness is a huge factor for me when I go out for sushi, but this just didn't have it. The rice was dry by the time it reached our table, and it wasn't sticky enough. It felt like the cold rice was microwaved and then used to make sushi - that's the feeling I got. I also didn't think it was worth the money. We spent over $50 + after tax and tip for three rolls, which is similar to what many other sushi restaurants charge, but those places serve much fresher and better quality sushi - Sushi Uni in Lenexa. The garden salad dressing was also a complete disappointment. It had no distinct ginger flavor or even enough seasoning. It was very thick and heavily spread over the salad, which made it unpleasant to look at and eat. Overall, the service was excellent, but the food didn't live up to the ratings or the price. The three stars are for the lovely server, the beautiful decor, and the well presented sushi. I really hope they improve the freshness because, based on the older reviews, they seem to have the potential to serve much better sushi. If they do, I will be the first one to definitely come back to try more of their beautiful looking rolls.

Then we sat down at the teppanyaki table, and things went south faster than a dropped egg. Our server was solid, but the "chef" was a total trainwreck. It felt like we were an inconvenience to his schedule. He just rushed through the motions with zero engagement, like he was checking off a grocery list instead of actually cooking for people. The "Highlights" (and I use that term loosely): The Timing: I ordered the steak and scallops. He finished my steak before the rice even hit the grill. My cow just sat there getting cold while we watched him "work." The Culinary Wisdom: When one of us asked if the beef was a strip or a ribeye, he literally just said, "It's steak." Cool. Glad we cleared that up. The Cross-Contamination Special: We had a vegetarian in the group. He proceeded to cook her tofu directly in the steak juice. Truly a "chef's kiss" moment if you hate your customers. The Doneness (or lack thereof): The salmon was basically still swimming (raw), and the scallops were charred and tasted like fire and brimstone. The Mussels: I grabbed a side of green mussels. They were... fine? I've had much better elsewhere in town, but they were the Olympic gold medalists of my meal by default. The Silver Lining? The Sake. It came in a take-home glass, was incredibly easy to drink, and was 100% necessary to get through the rest of the experience. I can't speak for the sushi, but if it's handled with the same "I don't want to be here" energy as the teppanyaki, I'd stay far, far away. Two stars only because the hostess was nice and the Sake did its job.
