my go to when I am in kc!!! the chef does not skimp on the cut of fish compared to certain chains and quality and taste of rolls are great ( I live in LA, sushi haven and could say Kabuki is top tier! Excellent service, cozy vibes and traditional food!

Who would have ever thought!!! Kabuki Sushi is at the bottom of an apartment building in Brookside and is VERY easy to miss. Once you get in there, it's pretty small and intimate, but it feels really homey and the staff is great and very kind. We had a fun night of trying new things and loved all of our sushi. We even got a free dessert for posting a photo of our visit to social media! There are a lot of sushi places in KC and it's tough to weed through which ones are actually worthwhile and which are not. Kabuki Sushi is worthwhile. It's delicious, speedy, the staff is great and it's not the most expensive that I've been to! Check it out!

    Boatload of Sushi!!!

One of the most incredible dining experiences in the United States of America. The sushi is not only colorful and appealing to the eye, but also flavorful and fresh. Crab Rangoon is some of the best I've ever had. The service is fast, and the music and ambience is incredible as well. Will definitely be returning!

Staff was incredibly friendly. This is not a large space, but it's a comfortable space. We sat at the bar and the chef was very patient with my questions and I enjoyed learning about the different rolls he was creating. We were pleasantly surprised to find that happy hour lasted until 7:00 and included discounts on beer, wine, appetizers and some rolls. Hubby has put this place on equal footing with our favorite Sushi Uni, but so much closer to our home. The fish was incredibly fresh and the pieces were a nice size. The house salad and miso soup that came with hubby's dinner were quality dishes and were not served merely as an afterthought, which was very much appreciated. I tried the Sexy Mama roll and loved the dipping sauce (yuzu ponzu sauce) that he served with it. It gave the roll the perfect amount of heat with a unique flavor twist. I look forward to returning and trying some new items and spending more time watching the chef create more wonderful looking rolls!

Great sushi!! Loved their crab ragoons and their calamari. A hidden gem in Kansas City.

Kabuki Sushi is truly a hidden gem in KC. Nearly hidden in the ground floor of Meyer West Condos, Kabuki Sushi is a small restaurant serving some big hits. To sample a little bit of everything, I ordered the chirashi. I've eaten at a lot of different sushi restaurants in KC, and the fish here was pretty darn impressive! It was fresh, flavorful, and I can't wait to come back. Not to neglect the sides, the miso was good and the seasoned rice great. Even if you don't get the chirashi, I'd try to see if you can score a side of the seasoned rice with whatever you order. Overall, Kabuki is on my short list of best sushi restaurants in KC. I certainly plan on coming back, and I'd definitely recommend you go too!

A cozy tucked away sushi den, one could easily miss. The place is simple, and the decor has a late 80s or early 90s vibe. The pulse of the place is in the quality sushi. The chef creates art with each dish. The sushi is fresh and tasty. Reasonable beer prices. They do delivery. An overall satisfying dining experience. Will return!

My friends and I were craving sushi and Kabuki popped up with decent reviews so we decided to come here. I felt like the food was really overpriced for what it was. The appetizers were extremely small and the sushi was decent. My boyfriend and I got the sashimi and it was ok. The tuna was probably the only cut that stood out. The presentation of all the food was a little bit lackluster as well. Overall the food was decent, but I probably wouldn't come back again for sushi.

cajun crunchy, miko, kabuki dragon(our favorite)

wow wow wow- everyone needs to checkout kabuki sushi in brookside/waldo area! We had never been until last night- but it came highly recommended to us when asking around for Sushi recommendations in kansas city. While the outside of the restaurant is unassuming- which my husband and I personally love. The inside of the restaurant is bursting in authenticity, warmth, and a sweet ambiance. The employees were above and beyond kind. Like SO kind and joyful- cannot emphasize this enough. Even if I didn't like the food I would want to go back solely to support the people. Alex and Lucy helped us but honestly the whole staff was welcoming. Now the Food: We got the kabuki dragon roll, the miko roll, and the cajun crunchy roll. they were FANTASTIC. My husband and I are big sushi people and both have lived in bigger cities previously with incredible sushi options. This was hands down our favorite sushi place so far after a year of hunting for one in KC. Not a negative but something to be mindful of most specialty rolls were $17-$18 which was more than the average that we've seen for a speciality roll in KC. We will be returning customers for sure!! Great job Kabuki!

This hidden gem was amazing! We loved the small, intimate dine in area. The food was spectacular. I cannot rave enough. We had the Mango roll and Arrowhead, both were amazing. My partner had the beef udon and he loved it. We will definitely be visiting again!

Then we sat down at the teppanyaki table, and things went south faster than a dropped egg. Our server was solid, but the "chef" was a total trainwreck. It felt like we were an inconvenience to his schedule. He just rushed through the motions with zero engagement, like he was checking off a grocery list instead of actually cooking for people. The "Highlights" (and I use that term loosely): The Timing: I ordered the steak and scallops. He finished my steak before the rice even hit the grill. My cow just sat there getting cold while we watched him "work." The Culinary Wisdom: When one of us asked if the beef was a strip or a ribeye, he literally just said, "It's steak." Cool. Glad we cleared that up. The Cross-Contamination Special: We had a vegetarian in the group. He proceeded to cook her tofu directly in the steak juice. Truly a "chef's kiss" moment if you hate your customers. The Doneness (or lack thereof): The salmon was basically still swimming (raw), and the scallops were charred and tasted like fire and brimstone. The Mussels: I grabbed a side of green mussels. They were... fine? I've had much better elsewhere in town, but they were the Olympic gold medalists of my meal by default. The Silver Lining? The Sake. It came in a take-home glass, was incredibly easy to drink, and was 100% necessary to get through the rest of the experience. I can't speak for the sushi, but if it's handled with the same "I don't want to be here" energy as the teppanyaki, I'd stay far, far away. Two stars only because the hostess was nice and the Sake did its job.

Every menu item feels very intentional and well executed. The offerings on the cocktail menu are fabulous. Both the ube and lychee cocktails are delicious. My partner and his mom both had a sake flight, each offering was delicious and different in offering. If you like sake you will definitely find one you like with this flight! They both ended up liking a yuzu sake and split a bottle, the finish was sweet, crisp and perfect for the Kansas City heat. I started with an espresso martini, the coffee flavor was strong and sweet and I was a fan! During our meal I opted for a martini corner dirty vodka martini and as a dirty martini enthusiast I was very pleased and will continue to recommend! I finished off with a matcha martini that was sweet, creamy and smooth and paired perfectly with our tempura banana! Speaking of food, the star of the show, we genuinely had only good bites here as usual. We sat at the bar on the corner, it was a nice seat that captured the energy of the restaurant, busy but somehow tranquil. Our bartender was great as well as all the staff behind the bar and host stand! I especially appreciate the patience of our bartender, we came and ordered many rounds of small plates, (you should do the same!) and he was nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. To start we had some furikake fries and shishito peppers. There are a lot of exciting and multilayed dishes on the menu, I think these two humble sides though really pack a punch and show that everything on the menu brings it's A game. From there the food ordering escalated as everyone in my group was over the top excited. The stand outs for me were, the dry aged salmon nigiri, the toro hand roll, the crab apple roll and my group was especially blown away by the scallops and are still talking about them a week later! Noka is in my opinion, really bringing a new level of dining to Kansas City. I'm not over stating it to say it is one of a kind in this city and everyone should try to get in.

Every detail feels intentional, from the plating and presentation to the atmosphere itself. As someone who appreciates design, Noka absolutely delivers. Food-wise, there were two undeniable stars of the night: * Wagyu Nigiri (100/10) - One of the best bites I've ever had. Rich, buttery, perfectly balanced, and worth ordering every single time. * Crab Campanelli (11/10) - Absolutely incredible. Comfort food elevated to fine dining quality. If I came back tomorrow, I'd order this again without hesitation. Other highlights: * Filet (10/10) - Beautifully cooked, incredibly flavorful, and paired with perfectly prepared bok choy. Everything on the plate felt intentional. * Night Market Wings (8.5/10) - The quality was excellent. The sweet heat profile just wasn't exactly my personal preference, but that's purely subjective. If you enjoy spicy food with a lingering, slightly numbing heat, you'll probably love these. * Shrimp Tempura Roll (8/10) - Very good and executed well. * Tuna Roll (7/10) - Good, but it was the least memorable item compared to some of the standout dishes we ordered. Noka excels at creating a complete dining experience. Beautiful atmosphere, thoughtful presentation, excellent service, and several dishes that genuinely surprised us. For a special occasion, date night, or anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in Kansas City, it's absolutely worth a visit.
