    Tuna Tower*
    Kyle S.

Returning Customer: Date night went great, easily made reservations on Open Table, World Cup traffic was not a hassle. We absolutely loved our cocktails. China Doll (pink) and the Hapa Highball (yellow), scary good, be careful lol. Their Tuna tower is our favorite in KC. We got 3 rolls (from left to right in my pic), Tidal Wave, Spicy Gringo, and Amazon Roll. All three were outstanding. I really appreciate that when they said it's spicy, it actually had a little kick. If I had to pick one of the 3, I'd take the Amazon but all 3 were bangers.

This place has a very cool vibe. It is clean and nicely decorated, and we loved the music. The drinks were delicious, as was the ceviche, though I wish they'd been a little more generous with the chips. Our sushi rolls were also fantastic--I had the St Martins (or Marco??) and loved every bite! Our server was patient and friendly, I will return.

Blue Sushi is hands down one of my favorite spots! Every time I go, the food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is such a vibe too !! Modern, fun, and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. The staff is always friendly and attentive, making sure everything comes out quickly and that you have a great experience from start to finish. If you're craving sushi, Blue Sushi never disappoints. 10/10 every single time!

Just got into town for a volleyball tournament. We wanted something special to eat tonight so we all decide to go eat sushi. The ratings on this place were good so we gave it a go. The crispy rice cake was amazing! Lightly fried with some amazing spicy tuna sitting delightfully on top for a perfect bite. Shishido peppers were perfectly seasoned and lightly charred. Offering a great smokey flavor. Tuna Tower was the star of the show! The dice tuna paired with the sweet Asian sauce, a top crab salad paired well with the rice and avocado. The only thing missing was a fork that would've made eating the last few bites easier! We ordered a variety of sushi rolls. All were really good. I wish I could name every role that we had, but unfortunately, I don't remember each name. I do have remember these: Godzilla Rainbow Beach Salmon skin Spicy gringo Tataki maki Overall, this place had a great vibe and atmosphere. Was a great choice for our first evening in Kansas City.

    Vegetarian sushi

Great spot for vegetarian sushi in KC! They have a variety of rolls, more than just your typical vegetable and avocado. They also have happy hour for the majority of the time they are open, and the deals are great! My friend and I split 4 rolls -- Thai Hippie, Vegan Philadelphia, Cowgirl, and Spicy Kaluna Crunch. The standout roll for us both was definitely the Cowgirl. It was warm and had so many flavors that all paired together well. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the BBQ paper since I don't usually like the taste, but it worked perfectly!! I would definitely go back for that roll alone. The other rolls were good too, but more one-dimensional in that the Thai Hippie tasted like a spring roll in peanut sauce and the Spicy Kaluna Crunch tasted like spicy mayo. The drinks were also amazing and cheap with the happy hour deal. We got the Sangria Spritz and Tokyo Fizz and were very happy with both. The drink deals

The best sushi restaurant in the Kansas City Area! So bomb. The crispy rice was delicious, felt like it was melting in my mouth. The yellowtail was so flavorful. The fried ice cream was a bit large but I ate with my 3 friends. I wish I remembered everything I got and the names but I'll be honest I did not think it was going to be that good. It blew my expectations for sure.

If I lived in KC this would be my favorite sushi spot hands down. The atmosphere is wonderful, the service is friendly and the food should be Michelin star rated. I had the miso soup, fried calamari, sake maki and itchy salmon nigiri. If I could experience the itchy salmon for the first time again I would. The first bite melts in your mouth and then you're bombarded with the most delicate and flavorful salmon and crab you will ever have. I thought I've had good sushi until I experienced this place. It's also conveniently located with plenty of street parking and garages near by.

Everything was absolutely delicious. The ambiance was vibrant but not so loud that you could hear your party. The reason for 3 stars is our server. She got big attitude when we didn't immediately know what wr wanted to drink and it did not get any better. She was super slow all night, at one point I could see her on her phone. She didn't even bother to thank us. Good thing the food was good because being from out of town I'd never bother to go back. It was that bad. Thank goodness there's a location in my home town.

    Itchy sea bass

I really wanted to like this place, but found the itchy sea bass overcooked, and too salty. The cherry bomb was spicy, but that is noted on the menu. It wasn't to my taste, but perhaps others may like it. It was over-seasoned to me with Tajin or something like it on top. The madai was excellent and very fresh, salad was delicious. Some of my food took a really long time and no one seemed to care. Had to ask for more water also and I was sitting at the bar. I had to ask twice for the check and it took forever to get it. It is a fun atmosphere with good decor and dance music, but not too loud to hear someone across the table. I would give it 3.5 stars based on the food and service.

Hawaiian roll & the Yellowtail Serrano*
    Ashlee D.

If you're downtown and craving sushi, Blue Sushi Sake Grill is always a solid go-to. I've been here multiple times and it never disappoints. Their happy hour is one of the best perks. It runs daily until 6pm and all day Sunday, which honestly feels a little dangerous in the best way. It's the perfect excuse to try a few different rolls without committing to full price. My personal lineup never changes. The Lion King roll is a must. It's warm, flavorful, and just melts together perfectly. The Yellowtail Serrano is super fresh with a nice little kick, and the Hawaiian roll adds that slightly sweet balance that rounds everything out. And the service? Always 10/10. The staff is consistently attentive, friendly, and keeps everything flowing without making you feel rushed. The vibe is fun but still relaxed enough for a casual night out, whether you're meeting friends or just want a good sushi fix. Definitely one of my favorite regular spots downtown.

We came on a weekday during lunch for a colleagues birthday. We made reservations as we weren't sure how busy they would be. We were seated fairly quickly when we arrived, however they tried to seat our party of 5 at a 4 top, without an extra chair. When we pointed it out they said most people squeeze and make it work, but that they could take us to another table if we wanted. We opted for the larger table. I absolutely love how long their happy hour is and we definitely took advantage of ordering off that menu. The missing stars are due to how long our wait was after we ordered. They brought out one persons roll and one persons nigiri and then nothing for 20ish minutes. To the point that servers who weren't even in our section noticed and asked what we were still waiting for and then had to come back and say it was "still being worked on." Don't get me wrong I know it can take time between plates, but I've never had that much of a delay where absolutely nothing came to the table. The food we ordered was delicious and I definitely have a new favorite roll - the tidal wave. I'd come back when I know I have time to kill.

They are about the only real sushi spot left in the city every time me and my friends go here for their happy hour, or there all day happy hour on Sunday we have a beautiful time. You literally can't beat it, and the prices are great and the food is good. The drinks are strong, I don't have any complaints. I've been going here for years and the service and the quality just gets better and better.

Blue Sushi Sake Grill is one of our favorite sushi spots in Kansas City. The quality of the sushi is always excellent and everything tastes fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere is great, very welcoming and perfect whether you are going for a casual meal or a nice night out. The staff are always very friendly, attentive, and kind, which makes the whole experience even better. You can really tell they care about their customers and take pride in what they do. If you are looking for great sushi, a fun atmosphere, and wonderful service, this place is definitely worth visiting. We always enjoy coming here and will continue recommending it to friends and family.

The sashimi was incredibly fresh and cut into thick, generous slices. The sushi rolls were also impressive they were large and packed with filling instead of being mostly rice. They absolutely need to get a larger place, especially when they are constantly busy. It was a weekday night when I went, and it was just as busy on times I've been during the weekend. Very cute place, but not great with the amount of clientele. Staff was great and very attentive. I had two whiskey cocktails and they were nice. I enjoy the fact that they have inexpensive Japanese whiskey. I've been expanding my palette, and Toro and Uni are some of my favorite pieces.. but I must say, I was very underwhelmed with their selection. Toro wasn't bad, but the Uni was so... salty. Not how I've had it before. The roll was just okay. I was very impressed with my chicken noodle dish! That was probably my favorite part of my meal.

Every menu item feels very intentional and well executed. The offerings on the cocktail menu are fabulous. Both the ube and lychee cocktails are delicious. My partner and his mom both had a sake flight, each offering was delicious and different in offering. If you like sake you will definitely find one you like with this flight! They both ended up liking a yuzu sake and split a bottle, the finish was sweet, crisp and perfect for the Kansas City heat. I started with an espresso martini, the coffee flavor was strong and sweet and I was a fan! During our meal I opted for a martini corner dirty vodka martini and as a dirty martini enthusiast I was very pleased and will continue to recommend! I finished off with a matcha martini that was sweet, creamy and smooth and paired perfectly with our tempura banana! Speaking of food, the star of the show, we genuinely had only good bites here as usual. We sat at the bar on the corner, it was a nice seat that captured the energy of the restaurant, busy but somehow tranquil. Our bartender was great as well as all the staff behind the bar and host stand! I especially appreciate the patience of our bartender, we came and ordered many rounds of small plates, (you should do the same!) and he was nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. To start we had some furikake fries and shishito peppers. There are a lot of exciting and multilayed dishes on the menu, I think these two humble sides though really pack a punch and show that everything on the menu brings it's A game. From there the food ordering escalated as everyone in my group was over the top excited. The stand outs for me were, the dry aged salmon nigiri, the toro hand roll, the crab apple roll and my group was especially blown away by the scallops and are still talking about them a week later! Noka is in my opinion, really bringing a new level of dining to Kansas City. I'm not over stating it to say it is one of a kind in this city and everyone should try to get in.

Every detail feels intentional, from the plating and presentation to the atmosphere itself. As someone who appreciates design, Noka absolutely delivers. Food-wise, there were two undeniable stars of the night: * Wagyu Nigiri (100/10) - One of the best bites I've ever had. Rich, buttery, perfectly balanced, and worth ordering every single time. * Crab Campanelli (11/10) - Absolutely incredible. Comfort food elevated to fine dining quality. If I came back tomorrow, I'd order this again without hesitation. Other highlights: * Filet (10/10) - Beautifully cooked, incredibly flavorful, and paired with perfectly prepared bok choy. Everything on the plate felt intentional. * Night Market Wings (8.5/10) - The quality was excellent. The sweet heat profile just wasn't exactly my personal preference, but that's purely subjective. If you enjoy spicy food with a lingering, slightly numbing heat, you'll probably love these. * Shrimp Tempura Roll (8/10) - Very good and executed well. * Tuna Roll (7/10) - Good, but it was the least memorable item compared to some of the standout dishes we ordered. Noka excels at creating a complete dining experience. Beautiful atmosphere, thoughtful presentation, excellent service, and several dishes that genuinely surprised us. For a special occasion, date night, or anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in Kansas City, it's absolutely worth a visit.
