Let me start off by saying - the Pho was amazing. My sister and I decided last min to try out Mr. Le. She noted " they had pho & sushi ". Odd & interesting. It's 90 degrees something out & I had to try their pho. It was GOOD, to my surprise! And I say that, cause I haven't found good pho since I've been in MO. Most pho places in MO, I've noticed - their phos are salty. But here, flavor is spot on! My sister had sushi & their shrimp special. We shared the hamachi yellowtail. A bit different from what we're use too at other sushi places. The yellowtail was thick - we had to send it back for some thinner slices. Still came back this, but we manage. Typically the hamachi would be in a sauce but it wasn't. So we opted for ponzu on the side. The servers were great - answered all the Qs my sister had. Checked on us constantly. Def considering this place a hole in the wall. From the outside, I wouldn't visit but once you do decide, the food/variety & costs are well worth it. Costs are better than other places. We have been saying for years we were going to try this place. Today was finally the day. We have heard nothing but good things about Mr. Le's. We were not disappointed! We tried the crab rangoon, excellent. Very crispy and light, not greasy at all. We each got a lunch bento box. I got teriyaki steak and fried rice with a shrimp tempura sushi roll. It also came with a side salad made with romaine lettuce. Hubby got steamed rice, teriyaki shrimp and Alaska sushi roll. We also were greedy and got their specialty Lennox roll. Everything was delicious. Lennox roll...by far the best sushi roll I've ever had. They had a bunch of specialty rolls. I'm sure we will go back and try others. My cousin had recommended this spot to me. So me and my gf stopped in last night for dinner. We were seated immediately and the service was top tier. We were also told about the exclusive menu that you can find on the menu with a QR code. It was an extensive menu but an overall great menu. The server also helped us when we asked for recommendations. We ended up getting soups (it's included if you order sushi) Miso & Onion also ordered the Crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon was nice and crisp. Sweet and sour sauce was good. We ordered 3 rolls. Lincoln, Kenzie & Myle Rolls. They were all really good. Loved the family photos on the wall. We accidently happened across this wonderful little gem of a sushi place! It was in the center of an older unpretentious little strip mall off of Parvin road, in Kansas City North. It may not be the fanciest place, as the decor is a bit dated. But the food that they put out here, makes up for any ambiance fauxpas. I actually enjoyed the decor, as it boasts what's important to the proprietor... and that's family! The walls are decked with family photos of beautiful little children and happy times. It is obviously a "Family Owned and operated" business. The service cannot be beat! We were well cared for and doted on like we were part of the family. The menu is full of various sushi and Asian dishes to choose from. I ordered the Spicy Crab Salad, and a Lincoln Roll (filled with shrimp, crab, cream cheese, and avocado.) which was perfectly rolled, coated in tempura batter, and fried to a crispy golden brown, then served topped with a bit of Spicy Mayo and Eel sauce. I can only say... Omgoodness! So delicious! My spouse ordered a variety of sushi rolls which included the spicy tuna roll and a couple others. They were expertly made and served on a platter with an artistic flair. We really do eat with our eyes first! It looked appetizing, but personally, I'm not a fan of sashimi (raw fish) style sushi rolls. FYI - the word "Sushi" refers to "rice"... it's "sashimi" that refers to the raw fish type sushi roll. Yet I digress. This place is a lovely and memorable little sushi house. Lastly, they also serve up a wide variety of Appetizers & Soups; Fried Rice, Lo Mein, and Teriyaki plates are available for order with the protein of your choice. We stopped by Mr. Les for a quick lunch. It's a bit of a hole in the wall place, decor is scarce but the waiter and waitresss are all nice. You mark what you want on the menu which I found helpful as the menu is quite vast. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee which was an absolute delight. Strong coffee with a not too sweet but still balanced taste, which they serve in a cup that you mix and pour over ice. There were some coffee grounds in mine but it didn't effect the experience one bit. The bento box is a great deal at 15 bucks that comes with soup, salad, a protein, rice and a sushi roll. The miso soup was well seasoned and delicious, the house salad was made with romaine which I appreciated over the traditional iceberg and the salad dressing was a nice miso/sweet dressing. I picked chicken teriyaki which again was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was well cooked. My only disappointment was the sushi itself, the filling was a bit bland and the rice was crunchy. The spicy mayo was also sweet which I wasn't a huge fan of. Overall they had solid dishes and it was a good experience, but I wouldn't go back for the sushi. read more

The calamari was really good and I liked that there wasn't that much breading. The spicy mayo that came with it was interesting - I think ponzu or something citrusy would have complemented the fried food a bit better. The gentleman taking my order could have been a bit friendlier...he made me feel like I was an annoyance to him. In one of the most decrepit and low-class strip malls in Clay County; Mr. Le's Sushi has stood the test of time for a few decades and has become one of those iconic low key favorites when people discuss favorite Northland restaurants. I believe Mr. Le's was the first sushi joint up north and still remains as a solid player in the market with value and a great varied menu. I've probably been to Mr. Le's about a dozen times in about as many years and have always left satisfied with service, food and value. Last Saturday was no exception. I ordered my usual of Miso soup and 2 rolls. A low tier California Roll and an upper tier Lisa roll with Shrimp Tempura and Eel this round. If you don't need an elegant atmosphere for devouring some good fresh sushi rolls, then Mr. Le's is your place. Five stars seems a bit high of a ranking for such a dismal location, but that just translates to cheap rent and a more economical menu. Obviously they love kids: behind the sushi bar, and over the register, are entire walls of photos of what I'm guessing are the owner/staff's children. But when we're dropping $140 for a couple on sushi (before tip), about the LAST thing I want is to be in a sushi restaurant with a staff that isn't only looking the other way, but encouraging 3-and-4-year-old children to be racing--loudly--back and forth thru the restaurant. I couldn't actually believe this was happening. The food itself is average: large portions, but uninspiring in both flavor and presentation. Some downright odd (the spicy scallop is crunchy and SO SPICY that there's literally no flavor of the mollusk left). Without the "I'm at a Chuck E Cheese's where they've given every child a quad espresso" vibe, I'd probably give the place a 3 star rating: it's somewhere close to that, and the servers were nice and super friendly. But we had to go next door to Tequila's to have a margarita to unwind AFTER being in a sushi restaurant with screaming, racing children. That's a first. read more
