Sushi Village never disappoints!! The service is always amazing today. Me and my family sit down and order two dinner meals with steak and chicken. The meat was cooked too perfection the vegetables cooked too perfection when I tell you I could eat eat here every day and not get tired. Amazing the clear soup also really great as well. The employees there are always friendly and it goes a long way.

Absolutely amazing service. Waitress was very attentive to our table. Even brought us extra wonton chips to have with our leftover sauce from the amazing money bags. We split one sushi roll and two appetizers and was plenty of food for two people and left for around 20 bucks. This hidden gem in a strip mall is a must! Inside is decorated very nicely and it's very clean too.

This is my ABSOLUTE favorite sushi restaurant in Birmingham! The sashimi in the nigiri is alway incredible because the fish is always fresh! I highly recommend the Love Boat sushi , that come with over 30 pieces of sashimi and nigiri PLUS 2 chef's sushi rolls! Love this place! The food is always great! The service is always quick and friendly!

This place is absolutely delicious and they have great lunch specials! We occasionally get it to go for work and it is always fresh.

I love the sushi here. I always get a chef special for all the variations of sushi. The spicy tuna and sashimi are really good.

The service was friendly and on point. We ordered the Party F platter to take home and devoured the whole thing. Everything was fresh and delicious! This is officially our new Sushi spot. Cannot recommend it enough! Its location is a little hidden but don't let that fool you. This place is worth getting off the beaten path.

Been craving sushi & hibachi, so I decided to give this spot a go because it's close to my apt. Got the Philadelphia Roll & Lion King Roll to start off. Then I got the Hibachi Dinner with Steak. The Philadelphia Roll is pretty basic but was very good! The Lion King Roll was good but very busy. I actually ended up preferring the Philadelphia Roll. The Hibachi Dinner with Steak was alright. Although the menu says steak, I don't think it's actually steak. It's not the worst but wasn't the best i've had either. And this place doesn't give you both soup and salad, but you choose one. I got soup and requested for miso. It was very good. However between sushi or hibachi, I would say this place is much better go to for the sushi. Overall it was good. However I had initially hit up this spot over my fave hibachi spot in hopes that it would be slightly cheaper plus being closer. After all said and done, I don't feel it was any cheaper. I wouldn't say that I'd never eat here again but I will more than likely hit up my fave hibachi spot if I had to choose again.

Top: 2 fried rolls (spicy salmon + crab) and spicy tuna Bottom: 1 fried spicy salmon roll, eel roll and normal spicy salmon roll

Came here for their lunch special on a Thursday afternoon. We were the only customers and were seated and served promptly. Our gluttony got the best of us and we got the 3-roll lunch special; my friend got 2 fried rolls (spicy friend salmon, fried crab) and 1 spicy tuna roll and I got 1 fried roll, 1 eel and 1 normal spicy salmon roll. The lunch special also came with salad or soup, and we both ordered miso soup. Our food came out quickly and it tasted pretty good. The fried rolls are very heavy and they're very heavy-headed with their mayo, so it felt very rich (instead of fresh/light). Overall, the lunch special is a good value, but quality is so-so. Not the best sushi but it's better than gas station sushi. Decent sushi for a good value.

I Just had a lunch special 3 rolls for $11.95, excellent! Fast n Friendly service, tasty fresh sushi rolls. Salmon n Avocado, Tuna and Spicy Salmon rolls, with Miso soup. Great lunch at a good price. I've been coming here for almost 4 years and I've never had a bad experience. I'll certainly be back for a quick lunch break!

    Bugs on sushi

It saddens me that I have to make a review like this. This has been a place we eat at a lot. I mean like 20+ times per year for 6 years. And we've loved eating here and the service is always great. However, our sushi tonight was definitely a trip. There were bugs on our sushi. But we only noticed it after we had eaten over 1/2 the food. They were really busy and our waiter wouldn't stay at our table long enough for us to let them know. We just paid and left. I figured instead of throwing a big huge fuss in the middle of the restaurant that I would write a review.

A really good price point and lovely restaurant. Comfortable atmosphere with a friendly staff. The food was great, and the salmon sushi was out of this world. I'd skip the rainbow roll during my next visit, but the Alaska roll was fine.

Where do I begin? I…read morehave lived in the Birmingham Metro area the majority of my life and love trying new places, so when my son spotted this place on a shopping trip to Publix and asked if we could go try it out I said yes (if he was a well-behaved boy at school lol). Luckily for us, he was today. It's location being over the parking deck is probably why I didn't notice it and I was nervous about how accessible it would be however there were two solid ways to get there either from the street or parking deck so that proved to be no issue at all. It has both indoor and outdoor seating with cute decor all over the inside. I've never been to Japan but one could imagine this gave its all to emulate the feel of a cool Japanese city restaurant. There's a cocktail bar on the right, sushi bar to the left, and good seating in the middle. Maybe large parties would be hard to seat upon reflection but I'm sure it's doable. The menus we received were EXTENSIVE. So many sushi and nigiri options were available it was almost overwhelming but they also gave us a paper selection for sushi that went into detail of the chef specials. But don't worry, they had other options including various soups, salads, appetizers (we got the spring rolls, YUM. My son devoured them), and hibachi style dishes. We decided to get the Udon with shrimp and veggies, Osaka roll, and Vestavia roll. Genuinely, you can taste the love and care. My son actually closed his eyes and sighed when he dived into the noodles dish and was enamored with the Vestavia roll (did I mention he's six?? Seriously, that reaction from a six year old means they're doing something right!). I also was beyond impressed with the flavors of it all. I wish I was more hungry so I could get more. Lastly, I want to touch on service. I, myself, am a bartender so service is a big thing for me. I have high expectations because I know how the job should be done. When I tell you these lovely people know how to make you feel at home, goodness. Every customer that came in was warmly greeted and if they were a regular it was like they were coming home. The lovely lady at the front (I want to say was maybe the manager?) was all smiles and running around helping and talking with staff and guests alike. She stopped by our table and chatted with my son and told us she was happy they had "new family members" (LOVE). Our server was phenomenal, even seeing my son was struggling with his chopsticks so he rigged up a pair to be more kid friendly which was great. We were sat facing the sushi bar so we were watching how much care and effort they were putting into each plate. It was a sight to see. This place clearly cares about its patrons from the moment they come in til the moment they leave. The love they put into every dish and interaction should be something you get everywhere. They've set a high bar and I'm happy we got to experience it. I cannot wait to go back. I'm already plotting what I'll try next!

The restaurant wasn't crowded at all, which made for a quiet and easygoing meal. The sushi itself was just okay... nothing particularly memorable, but it satisfied the craving. I was led through a corridor next to the front bar that opened up into a large room with a seated bar in the middle illuminated by a colorful tree. This was great ambiance for a date and the food amd drinks did not disappoint. I love their selection of raw oysters, but I would say their chef special is a necessity. I enjoyed the chef's creativity with the oyster garnishes and I will be ordering this every visit. The short ribs were perfect, fork tender and covered in a robust sauce, this will be a frequent order as well. The most difficult part of the night was finding what to drink. As someone who always wants to taste the entire menu, I often ask for recommendations from the staff. Luckily, the bartender quickly suggested a cocktail for me as well as a modification he personally enjoys. The drink was strong, flavorful, and most importantly balanced. I will be looking forward to coming back to Johin'na's again.

The Salmon was outstanding -- fresh and flavorful, easily my favorite. The Beef version was a bit bland and dry for my taste, though. The sides really shined. The Takoyaki (octopus dumplings) were delicious and unique, topped with Takoyaki sauce, tempura scraps, and perfectly cooked. The Gyoza, Japanese Egg Rolls, and Shrimp Tempura were all light, crispy, and excellent. The Squid Salad was also very good and made a nice addition.
