The associate who greeted me was very enthusiastic about seeing a Tony the Tiger watch and quickly presented me with service options. Sensing my concern about cost of fixing the second hand, she offered an alternative. She also told me the item would be ready by the end of the week but I was called for pick-up well before that timeline. Now, for just over $10, I have the watch up and spinning. The owner here is very friendly and personable. She said she had no holiday plans for the 4th itself during the day and her family were out doing their own thing so she decided to open the doors... And we appreciate that! The shop is laid out into three sections. The front main display area. A back room area. And a small room off to the side of the front counter. Very easy to navigate. Don't forget to look at the outside items too! Prices are reasonable and it was a welcome stop during our trip. Heather picked up a couple of things while I walked out empty handed...this time. When this spot popped up (last year, I think) I was super excited because it's right across the street from Kalona Brewing Company which makes it easy to fit into a typical trip. Even though a lot of the shops in town are a little more traditional, The Shop stands out because they have a nice mix of old and new items, and a lot of their furniture has been refinished or repainted to fit in with a more modern decor without the elbow grease a take-home project requires. I've purchased several things here - from signage, to dried flowers to small furniture - and I've been pleased with each purchase.

The Red Hen has a terrific assortment of traditional, modern, patriotic, etc. I fell in love with some bold, vibrant paisley fabric and already have plans for it. The prices are exceptional. There is nothing priced over $10.00 per yard.
