giving it 2 stars because the staff is very very friendly. other than that the y is very overpopulated! you can barely workout. theres barely any space in free-weight area. the machine equipment is always taken (especially abduction/adduction machine) only way i can closely get a good work out in is if i can make gym at 5am other than that anytime after 6-7am forget it!!! its always busy not enough space tbh they are just accepting memberships and not caring at this point! only reason i go here is bc i live close, so its convenient! read more

Really dirty and unsanitary. Won't go back. I complained to staff about the unsanitary conditions of the hot tub and dressing areas and was given the excuse of them being low on staff. Unacceptable. read more

My 7yo autistic son came home from summer camp one day and said he "drowned", initially I thought he over exaggerated, but he didn't come home with his life jacket that day, which i found weird. And after that he became sick, flu like symptoms and couldn't go to camp for the week afterwards. The next time my son went to camp, he came home crying, he had another incident in the pool with another boy. At this point, I said it was time to pull him out. I emailed the director and head counselor about this, they tried to talk me out of pulling him out but I didn't trust this situation, something seemed off and of course they said nothing happened. I pulled him out and asked for a refund for the unused weeks and then silence. Their policy states you have to place a written request 17 days before cancelling but it also says there are exceptions. which I believe, this is one. I specifically asked if they could handle autistic children before i registered my son and the assistant camp director said yes. After all this, I googled the history of various YMCAs and camp staff. !!! Learned my lesson, always do a thorough research on a facility before entrusting them with your loved ones read more

I absolutely LOVE the Sussex County Ymca. The hospitality that is shown to visitors and members will make you keep coming back. The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable. There are so many classes to choose from and the new renovations is the cherry on top. I live at Crystal Springs and I get shown more respect, warmth and courtesy as a member of the YMCA then as a resident of "the great crystal springs". I appreciate this place so much and will support them always. The saving grace and shinning star of Sussex County!!!! read more

Today, YMCA posted 5-7pm for open gym on it's website. So I shuffled my personal and work schedule to fit that in today. I arrived at 530pm and surprisingly got kicked out at 6pm because there are "other YMCA activities" that got shifted to that time slot. However, the shift was done without ever updating the website's posted schedule. Very inconsiderate and disrespectful to ballers! Do not get trick by it's beautiful indoor basketball gym. The basketball gym is never available for ballers who has a regular day job. In fact, the schedule posted on it's website would confirm that there are very limited availability for open gym basket ball after 6pm. read more

Happy Thursday my fellow Adventurers! I pop in here on the weekends using a guest pass because my normal gym isn't this far north. I have to say the place is kept really nice, clean, and everyone is super friendly. They were in the middle of construction so I know that they had to create a make shift gym for the regulars. However when I visited the space was still large enough to provide adequate spacing between machines. The treadmills have interactive screens to simulate street running, which is pretty cool; though truthfully I enjoy watching sports or nothing at all while running. Also they are strategically placed facing out to the wind so you can feel the sunshine---natural light is always better than artificial light. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have a separate yoga/stretching room because the room they had always has classes. Maybe they created this after the construction has been completed? Hopefully. The showers are really clean----like no hair in the drain clean. SCORE! Hard to find gyms in general that doesn't have some residue of unclean showers. They lead directly into the pool so it brings back members from my college swim class. They also provide generic body wash/shampoo in case yo forget yours. I'm sure they may also provide towels if you ask. Overall really pleasant experience going here. My gym away from home on the weekends! read more

My family had a promotional membership to the Sussex County YMCA, and I maximized usage of it to re-ignite my gym routine while my wife and daughter were able to use the pool a couple times. The gym area has all the key equipment and a really nice dumbbell wall- however its main issue is that there isn't enough room for all the members to safely use the free weight equipment all at the same time. It's like a having a room and then overfilling it with too much furniture. There are 5-6 dumbbell benches and seats in area of about only 15 feet x 6 feet- so you could be laying on the bench doing flys or a bench press and it's highly likely someone will bump into your weights during the exercise while they are trying to pass by- this is the only gym I've ever had that problem in the past 30 years. Some of the younger guests also have zero gym etiquette and stand as a group right in front of the entire dumbbell rack blocking it, not exercising, or will otherwise take 3 to 4 sets of dumbbells elsewhere in the gym floor. The cable crossover area is similar- it's ok with duplicate stations, but it's a scavenger hunt trying to find the grip you want for your workout. The building really should have more of a workout space. All of the machines areas seemed to be good, along with the cardio equipment but the entire space just seems to be overcrowded with too much stationary equipment. I did notice that some of the cardio equipment will remain out of service for 7-10 days before someone fixes it, only for another similar piece of equipment to wear out and also need service. Cleanliness seemed ok (although I never checked the locker)- everyone wipes the seats and cardio handles, and the grey area is the weight handles as it should be! The membership price also seems set up to be set at about 15% higher than what it should be for this area (maybe for pool coverage?)so that the YMCA management can then keep the extra 15% discount from those of us with some type of health insurance coverage. Maybe have two membership options or tiers for folks that want to use the pool and for folks that just want to use the gym. The parking lot spaces also seemed to have been shrunken to exactly the width of a midsize truck. Not sure I'll be continuing the membership. read more

They did a nice job reconstructing the inside making it bigger with enough space! Lots of new gym machines, pool, basket ball court & love the classes here. Staff is very welcoming & friendly. I've been a member for a few years now. --membership did go up tho:/--only dislike. read more

Really??? The Y took 3 months of my membership fee out during the height of the Horrible, Corona Virus, 1000's dying a day and the Y is taking my membership fee out?????? To date we are over 200,000 deaths due to this horrible virus and I saw yesterday the Y took out the 3 months again after I disputed accordingly through my bank as well as finally told a staff member at the Y that I was not coming back and to refund my hard earned money. I had better things to take care of then paying the "Y" for not being opened. I tried repeatedly to contact the Y during this horrible virus, to stop my membership and to cease taking the money out of my personal banking account with no contact or availability to anyone at the Y what so ever. I then start to receive phone calls from a collection company in Dover, NJ, stating that I have been handed over for non-payment! You have got to be kidding me....how my credit score will be affected by this non payment, this better not happen and I was assured by a staff member that she would take care of this. Shame on you YMCA!!! I had actually thought about visiting the Y this past week to maybe return but not now. If this is not corrected and my hard earned money not refunded to me by 10/2/20, I will take to every outlet and state this same true story to Instagram, Facebook, lastly the Newspapers in our area, NJ Herald, Star Ledger, they are dying for stories. This is a small Y compared to others, and deceptively small given the large piece of land it's on and simply the look of it from the outside. Facilities are very clean and the other members are generally good about wiping down the equipment when they're done. The locker rooms are also always clean, the showers work and get you hot water. The pool has pretty generous amounts of open swim and open lanes, but check the schedule - especially weekends and after school. Weekend hours stink. They close at 5 on Sunday! Just saying, not complaining, but one of these days I'll mention it to someone. Also, the water fountains have the worst pressure. I know they recently worked on it, but the water comes out in a trickle and that skeeves me out. The staff are very nice and helpful. It's a nice atmosphere without a bunch of meat heads or girls showing off. People tend to be interested in fitness for the sake of being healthy. read more

Ok let's figure out where to start. I have been going to the Y for almost 2 weeks now. Within the first 4 days all of the ladies that work the front desk knew my name as well as my wife and daughters name. The staff is extremely friendly and are always smiling. Staff is always helpful with answering any questions. One of the best highlights for me is the child care. I am able to drop my 3 year old off for who hours while I hit the gym. She is always happy to go and sometimes doesn't want to leave. I like that they have security cameras in the day care room. They also always have two staff members in the room which is comforting. Bella is always busy when she is there and I never see a kid just sitting here bored. A REALLY AWESOME thing they do is called the kids night out where they babysit your kids from 6:30 to 9:30 on the second Friday of every month. They doth is so you can have a date night the Mrs. The gym is kept clean and is never dirty. It is a smaller gym but is never over crowded. Everyone that goes to they gym is very nice, you don't find any if those meat heads grunting like a cave man and hogging machines. They have all state of the art equipment nothing old our outdated. They have way to many tread mills though. Have a great selections of machines and free weights. OH! Best part is they don't play cheesy 90s music. The steam room and sauna are great. I use them every time I go. They are well maintained. I was taking to her and she kept looking away and being bad. You know I'm on edge and you aren't helping They have a pool it's pretty big. I can't comment on that I have never used it. My wife does and she loves it they have family swims. As well as lap swimming. Oh and they do aqua aerobics if you are into sweating with the oldies. They offer tons of classes. I haven't taken any yet I'm a loan wolf. (One man wolf pack) the classes are very interesting lots to pick from. They started offering judo I'm going to try out so I'll let you know how it goes. There is no such thing as a perfect gym but so far this one comes very close. I was unable to give a five star review for these reasons: * No towel service, what's that about! * Child care has only certain hours * Naked old men in the locker room (that didn't factor with stars, but you've been warned) * A lot of rules * way to many treadmills and not enough elipticals and bikes. * weekend hours aren't great read more

Will be finishing my 12 weeks health and wellness training. Off to the next level of my fitness program. So glad I joined. Walk 4.5 miles on treadmill every morning. Do Zumba 3 nights a week. Enjoying meeting new people as well. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Trainers are fantastic. read more

It's ok not with the money if u ask me. The gym area is despicable not much at all to it. The pool is always busy. But to each his own. I'm a family of 4 and it is. Not worth it! The YMCA is a fantastic place. It has a gym, pool, classes, lessons, camp, and child and youth rooms for your kids to stay in. In the pool you can take lessons, classes, free swim, and swim team. In the child rooms you can leave your children in the rooms while you are doing what you want. The trainors, coaches, and counselors are all very nice. The child watch rooms are very safe and keep the kids occupied for a very long time. This is great place to go. read more

I received a one day pass from a friend. This place was dirty! Women's locker room had water on floor. Paper and waste everywhere. The seats in the hallways are stained and smelled as I sat on them. I joined a cycle class. The instructor was loud and rude as she kept on calling on me. I felt like I did not belong here. She kept coming over during class and told me to adjust the speed. I was so embarrassed! There was even a person that came in and was sweeping the floor. She hit me with the broom. Dust was going everywhere as she was sweeping by the fans. Something went in my eye. The showers are dirty, too! Soap residue on where I decided not to put the soap on. Little bugs were flying around. I will never come back here again and I advised my friend to go to the one I go to in Newton. read more

Not a place for athletic people. Find another gym. The classes are super easy, and never challenging. Most instructors are nice, but the physically fit challenging instructors are quick to leave and find another gym. Most core and spin classes are led by a brash out of shape instructor who spends more time yelling at her class rather than doing an excercise (if done at all). I like classes that are led by example rather than yelling. This place is not for me. read more

The Y is really small. Less than 20 Treadmills. Only 5 Cross Ramps which are always in use. 5 Eliptical Machines... Maybe 10 Steppers... 10 bikes..... The free weight area is really small and crowded. The Exercise machines are cramped together and actually really close to the Cross Ramps and Elipticals... I understand its the Y but, kids under 12 really have no business on the cardio equipment. They keep saying they are expanding... time frame keeps changing so its probably not true.... So much land and they should have expanded a long time ago.... read more

Never having joined a Y before I am not experienced in reviewing one. However, my daughter who has been a member in many Ys in many cities, said it is the best Y she has ever been to - spacious, clean, lovely people & employees, great pool, etc. read more

Wonderful kind staff. Cannot stress that enough. However, Dirty globs of hair in locker room and shower area daily. No room in pool! No room in gym! You pay a lot for no space to use a bosu ball or even put down a mat for push-ups. If you want water aerobics, classes for kids or adult group fitness and you don't mind semi dirty floor, you will be happy there. If you just want to use lap lanes, machines, free weights and have even 2 feet of space for crunches... forget it. The facility is huge but it's all lobby and hallway space and empty rooms reserved that you cannot use. They added more equipment recently and now there's even less room to use any of it and they put free weights facing wall with no mirror so you can't see your form during dumbbell press or lat raises, etc. when asked trainer if they will put a mirror in front of free weights, he said yes. That was 2 months ago. I think he was blowing me off. Very frustrating and I'm not sure gym will ever have space even after expansion. Whish they would survey members who actually use the facility before deciding what to add. read more

I'm a long time fan of the Y in Hardyston. Until---- They installed new tread mills. Ever since they were installed I have asked several trainers how to operate the TV and how do I start walking. To make a long story short after about three weeks I can now turn on the tread and watch tv, still learning how I can change channels. Today I was walking a a good speed when all of a sudden it stopped, good thing I was holding on or I would have fell. Turned around to see if I could find a trainer to see of they could correct my tread. I have asked many times before today for help. Was always told trainers NOT trained on operation of new machines. Installers still trying to get everything going. THREE WEEKS NOW. Noticed cones on the floor in front of machines behind me. This is so we do not step on the wires running out of each machine. With old machines I was able to hear all channels. I wear two hearing aids and with the new treads the sound is so low I can not hear any TV. Would like to remain a member however not sure how much more I can take. read more
