I went to Sutherland Hardware & Mercantile for the Louisville Rose Society Rose Show 2025. This place is super cool and I could've spent alot more money and a lot more time; but, I held restraint. They have everything you need for home & garden without the mass produced industrial feel to it. The Rose Show was amazing. I love flowers and just recently was gifted some hybrid tea roses and it's fueled my passion for Roses. I hope to start my Rose garden out back once the basement is finished. There were some spectacular beauties there. I got to vote on the prettiest and most fragrant. I was in heaven. I did pick up some thing packets of seeds for bees and butterflies. We've got once tone on this planet let's make it better. read more

Sutherlands is fine. If I need something, I ask. If they are out of something, I ask if they can order it and they do. Their paper yard bags are the best around, very study even after being rained on. So to me it's a regular hardware store that has everything a regular person would need without a lot of fuss. I'm happy it's a hardware store and not a noisy car wash or a neighborhood value reducing family dollar. Shop there if it's close because if not we'll soon find we have a Spirit of Halloween store. read more

A gem of a hardware store. Very helpful and almost always has what you need and if they don't they can get it.

It's nice having a hardware store in the neighborhood, but some of the least helpful employees ever. I'm far from a handyman so every time I come in I ask if I'm buying the proper stuff or to point me in the right direction only to receive a glare or very unhelpful answer. I live walking distance to Sutherlands but shop there infrequently because the service is so poor and the prices too high.

This store is convenient and surprisingly stocked with almost everything we seem to need. It's a real shame the management has such a crap attitude. This filters down to the employees as is always the case. Rude? Incredibly so, and relatively uninformed. Exactly the OPPOSITE of the proverbial friendly hardware store like for instance St Matthews Hardware was and Shillers still is. Nothing worse than needing to buy things you need from people like this, so, in fact, this family never will again. read more

Nice local store... however they don't support our veterans like other local and chain stores do. Go up the road if you want local or around the corner to the chain stores. They all provide our vets with a 10% complementary discount. Support our veterans. I will no longer shop here. read more

I can accept higher prices to support a small business but they are not willing to help. They sold me a key which didn't work. I arrived when the store was closing (right at 6:30 which is their COVID hours), they wouldn't help me at all. read more

If I could give Sutherland's no stars I would. I want to support local businesses but not when I am treated so rudely. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman so I'm not a serious customer or they are just rude to everyone. Trip 1- I needed to ask about an item and had to go to the counter and ask one of the three people sitting on their butts to assist me. Annoying but not terrible. Trip 2- FIVE men were sitting behind the register when I walked in. I asked for the location of an item and one of them pointed to the right side of the store. When I walked past it because pointing is vague AND rude, the employee walked behind me and said "I pointed right at it" and felt like he was chastising me for not knowing where in a 10,000 square foot store he was pointing. Trip 3- I ran in to grab one item before they were closing tonight. Two men sitting behind the register. I know, shocking. Did they say hello? No. Did they ask how they could help me? No. I got a scowl and a firm "we are closing in less than five minutes". I'm done with this store. I'll got Oscar's where they are so nice, helpful and don't mind if you scoot in close to closing to grab a few last minute items. read more

This is a great "hardware" store with knowledgeable and pleasant people ready to help you out. I was looking for a small, sturdy step ladder with wide steps. The man at the counter knew exactly what I was looking for and took me over to what they had. He took the ladder down, opened it and suggested I get a few steps in to see if this was going to give me that comfortable safe feeling I was wanting. It was exactly what I was looking for. There is plenty of parking and from what I could see they have a pretty large, varied inventory of items. Not only did I find the ladder I was looking for at a reasonable price, but he also carried it out and put it in my car for me. Great customer service. I now have three local hardware stores to choose from and not one is big box. I'm always happy to support local businesses. read more

An excellent hardware store - clean, very well stocked and better prices than the big box stores. Yes they have occasional employees who are less than attentive but overall I've had good service. Living in the neighborhood, I find that many people seem to hold a "grudge" that Doll's Market is gone - so they drive four more miles instead of using this fine store. Nuts! read more

I'm not looking for senior discounts, nor military discounts, I just want to be able to find product and someone to help me if I have a question. I avoid the Home Depots like the plague. I've been shopping at Sutherlands since they first opened their doors and everyone there has been extremely helpful and courteous. Smaller chains can't afford to offer discounts to every group - the nurses, the teachers, the seniors........... read more

I hate to give a one star review, but customer service makes or breaks first impressions for me. The store itself was much bigger than I expected, clean, looked well-maintained and organized. I came in tonight about 25 minutes to close. Two employees were working. I wasn't acknowledged by either upon entering nor was the customer who walked in right behind me. After having a hard time finding what I was looking for, I made a point to walk past the counter twice, pointedly looking lost, to see if I could garner any form of customer service. One employee was counting the till (I understand, 20 minutes to close, you want to get out of there) but the other employee was leaning against the counter; still no acknowledgement from either employee. I became frustrated but needed the items tonight so tried to find them again. Luckily I found the items on my own after a third try. The store may have the most wonderful, helpful people working any other time, but unfortunately I won't ever find out because the service tonight left such an awful taste in my mouth. read more
