FIRST...the main entrance is in the back of the building, where the majority of the parking is located. This business is located right next to Five Guys on Shelbyville Rd in the St Matthews area. I prefer shopping locally owned businesses whenever possible and the staff here have always been super helpful. Today I ventured in to procure some Calcium Chloride Ice Melt, of which they were out of stock (like most of the country right now), but Dustin opened a bag of Magnesium Chloride Ice Melt for me, so I could see the size of the pellets, and then he helped me empty that opened bag into a container I keep in my vehicle just for ice melt. He then helped me place more bags into my vehicle, all of this before I even paid for the products. The prices are typically better than big box stores as well. We went inside the store and I paid for the items, and Dustin was very pleasant and kind the entire time he assisted me. At big box stores you just cannot receive this kind of personal assistance that locally owned stores offer. Kudos to Dustin for being so helpful!

I provided the paint chip, and they matched it for me perfectly (I guess I pick the colors for which they don't have the paint codes - lucky them!). The service is wonderful and very personal, and their paint/stain selection is excellent. I buy the Benjamin Moore EcoSpec, which is a zero VOC paint. When you are painting literally every surface in your home, you don't want VOCs trust me. Very worth it at under $30/gallon. It's also a really good sign to see professional painters patronizing the store, and you'll see them in here. Skip Lowe's, skip Home Depot and bring your business here. You will not be sorry.

We met with Leddy, and she helped us with colors that would work with furniture and the color of the wood flooring. They are gorgeous - she was so right! I'm not really good at measurements, mostly due to being lazy at that (but I can whip up an amazing hour-long presentation!). The person helping me sold me too much paint for the area that I needed covered (although I take responsibility for not quite having done all the math before my arrival), and when the painter opened the primer (I asked for primer with a color shot), the primer was too dark for the topcoat. The painter was able to just use the topcoat and do two coats. I know paint with color in it isn't returnable, but since it was a mistake in the color (primer with a color shot should have half the color), I brought the two cans of primer back. Porter Paints was very nice about it, and refunded me the money. I really appreciated how professional they are, and nice about mistakes. I will definitely use them in the future.

The store is clean and well organized and I have been fully satisfied with my purchases. But the big reason this is my go to paint site is the people that work there. The customer service is exceptional. The employees are always warm and welcoming and happy to answer my painting questions. I never feel like they are trying to upsell me on anything. In fact, they've helped me purchase some deals too! On several occasions they have helped me carry my purchased items out to my car (one of those instances being when I was a new mom trying to figure out juggling a heavy car seat while shopping). When we got the paint on the wall and it was not what we were looking for in terms of coverage and finish. We decided to try Sherwin-Willams after that. We told the associate what we wanted to do, what finish we wanted, and what color the room was currently. They were able to provide spot on recommendations. I never felt like they were trying to up sale me or sale me anything that I didn't need. From now on I'll get my paint from here. They have everything you need for home & garden without the mass produced industrial feel to it. The Rose Show was amazing. I love flowers and just recently was gifted some hybrid tea roses and it's fueled my passion for Roses. I hope to start my Rose garden out back once the basement is finished. There were some spectacular beauties there. I got to vote on the prettiest and most fragrant. I was in heaven. I did pick up some thing packets of seeds for bees and butterflies. We've got once tone on this planet let's make it better.

Most prices were fairly hefty, and I couldn't decide if their lower level offer was popular. A quick scan of reviews was very divided. We decided to skip the paint today and consider other brands that will offer durability and provide good coverage.

The folks greeted me when I entered and thanked me for the copious amount of love and attention that I showed the store cat. No pressure to buy, no shakedown about my intentions. They then gave me space to get down to the business of examining paint swatches. Based on the discussions I heard while in the store, I think that a lot of professional painters and designers use Dages. The people working there are helpful and very knowledgable, but not at all pushy. They spoke to their regulars like friends, which I loved. Dages has a full range of equipment, paint types, and colors to fit any DIY or commercial endeavor. The staff are cool and I wouldn't hesitate asking them any question I had about a project. When I left with a handful of ideas but no actual paint, they thanked me and said come back anytime. That's my kind of customer service. I'll be back, no doubt.
