I had the misfortune of needing to be checked into the hospital for several days to receive IV antibiotics. I want to tell you. The staff is friendly , kind, cheerful, helpful, prompt . The room was comfortable, clean , warm, well Set up, quiet . The doctors were professional , thorough, direct . And the support staff from maintenance to the food service staff were friendly and helpful. The food was actually good . I just had meatloaf lunch that except for the gravy mix would be something I would make . I ate fish for dinner last night and it was good. I am tall and the staff were able to make my bed longer so I was not cramped . And I was given extra pillows when I asked . Which site helped . I will say if you want to not be bored download your own shows before coming ( no streaming on their network) . But that is pretty much my only downside. I am happy to be going home now , but being here has been comfortable and made me feel better. read more

I do have concerns about being misdiagnosed, on two separate occasions, by doctors at Sutter Coast Hospital. I have already provided a Poor Rating for those two events. It would, however, be unfair and somewhat dishonest of me if I didn't mention another occasion where I was treated with expert, life saving, care and professionalism by the doctors and staff at Sutter Coast Hospital. For this event I am giving a separate rating, as I do not know how else to address the issue. In 2019, or 2020, I went to the front desk of Sutter Coast Hospital and I complained of chest pains. The lady at the front desk commented how I was sweating, pale, and how I had clammy hands. She immediately picked up the phone and notified someone and ended with the word "Stat". Then with amazing speed & swiftness, as if in a movie, 4-5 hospital staff members burst through a door while pushing a hospital Gurney (bed on wheels). I was placed on the Gurney and I was immediately whisked away. I'm telling you, the speed at which this happened was truly amazing!!! I was then taken into a room where an entire team of Doctors and Nurses all worked in synchronous precision to stabilize me. Everything was happening so very fast. Again, I tell you that the orchestrated speed at which they worked was Awe-inspiring!!! In retrospect, I thought that I would have been very frightened and utterly scared but I wasn't, due to the obvious expert care that I was being given. After being stabilized, and goodness knows what else, I was placed on an airplane and flown to a hospital in Oregon. Most of the life-saving work had been done at Sutter Coast Hospital, though. To this day, doctors continue to tell me how surprised they are at how my Heart suffered Very Little Damage. Each time, I respond by crediting the entire Sutter Coast Hospital staff and how well and quickly they performed. Credit goes to everyone at Sutter Coast Hospital, as I have already discussed, but a very special appreciation certainly must go out to the lady that was working the front desk that afternoon. I wish that I knew her name so that I could personally thank her, as she was the very first "link in the chain" of people that I credit with saving my life. read more

First thing is I grew up here and so I know this Hospital well I've had the worst experience here all my life and don't ever go to the wound care clinic first they will start nice than they will say it's okay to wait to change wound when they know it's supposed to be changed every three days so chest bone don't get infected but they make you wait five days because if it gets infected then you get shipped off for surgery and then they don't have to do it anymore they don't care about people they care about money. This place is horrible. I came in the morning for a uti and bc I had been assaulted by the lady I was staying with and drugged on one occasion. They decided I needed to be kept on a hold for no reason. Immediately took my phone access and tried to get me in a gown. I overdosed in their care due to this. I'm 24 and a college student. I was waiting for funds from my school to get a plane ticket home this same day. I'll probably have to drop out now. The hospital blew out one of my veins so bad it still hurts three weeks later and has a big ball bump on it. You can hear the staff team talk about you and laugh at you the whole time. This one girl who took care of me, she's tall with black/brown hair, and blue eyes, probably in her late 30s is soooooo full of herself and made the stay a lot worse. She would just stare at me the whole time and intensely when I brushed my teeth, very unnerving and weird. They treat you like childish trash no matter what. I fell when climbing tree trunks and huge rocks at Harris beach. Below me was layers of tree-trunk drift wood. I slipped, fell backwards, and landed hard on several large pieces of tree trunks. The moment I landed I screamed for dear life, and my husband came to pull me out. I couldn't breathe suddenly and felt pain in my bones at a level I'd never experienced. I couldn't breathe and asked my husband to give me rescue breaths which I didn't need, I was hysterical was all. An ER nurse on the beach asked me if she could call an ambulance for me. The ambulance ride wasn't was a little tense because I couldn't calm down or move to my left side where I'd smashed myself. I was given Ativan and Fentanyl, then more Fentanyl. I was screaming in the ER room. The two nurses, Patty and Angie had two perfectly different personalities designed special to deal with me. They were pumping the right medicine, talking firm and quiet to me as though I mattered. Two nurses with zero ego who spoke to each other with telepathy, and got me to a pain level of six. Ct showed punctured lung and bruised ribs. I was admitted to the MCU, doctors continued reviewing labs, asking me questions with concerned eye contact, and the nurses continued to manage my pain. I don't remember being alone. I'll mention all the doctor's names in my letter to the hospital, but three of them were probably the best ER doctors I've ever seen. They were beside. What? I had low kidney function, infection showed in my urine, and my blood pressure was suspiciously low. I'd seen my Nephrologist two weeks prior and my kidney function was perfect, but my urine wasn't tested. Looking back I noticed my pee was different then. ER doctors took me off my blood pressure medicine, and asked that I revisit my nephrologist (who is also my primary care doc.) So yah, I was in pain all night, and the next few days. I bought Comfrey poultice and coated it on my left side where all of my ribs were, and after three days, I feel near perfect. Better than I felt before I went on vacation. I'd been suffering from things related to low blood pressure, and din't know. They probably saw my colon on the Ct scan and asked me about my constipation. I've suffered my whole life and tend well to avoid compaction. But The nurses gave me something to soften my stools, and for the first time in my life my bowels move each day, sometimes twice. What? I don't have insurance, and don't qualify for assistance, but God will provision us to pay the all of the bills which we're waiting for. If people complain about ANYTHING this hospital is missioned to deliver it must be a fluke, or a staff member who won't be there very long. I'm 58, I know what bad medical services looks and feels like. But these fine humans fixed me before letting me go. God was in that place. read more

I receive disability for emotional issues I couldn't even stand up and was mocked and degraded for how I reacted to the pain and they were more concerned with my language while in crippling pain than actually helping Didn't have that problem the first time They need empathy training and a brush up and to understand not all disabilities can be seen Anybody could react in the same way. My husband was seen in the ER tonight for stepping on a screw at the beach. A screw went through his shoe into the bottom of his foot. The quality of care was horrible. I get they are busy. That's not my issue. He never even saw the doctor. No one touched his foot. They didn't even clean it. Plus they didn't even know which foot had the screw in it. Also they tried to give him antibiotics that he was allergic to(charted). Extremely disappointed. I know emergency rooms get busy and things get crazy. However it's extremely discomforting knowing how they don't take the time out to take care of each patient. No patient is there because they want to be. I also feel like my husband got treated the way he did because of our insurance. All we can afford is the state insurance. Last week I got a phone call from a coworker who was not feeling well and had reached a new level of pain and discomfort. Everything went very smoothly, from registering to discharge. The nurses listened to her health issues and concerns and asked for clarification as needed. Dr. Saunders was very thorough in her examination and asked questions of my friend through out her exam. My coworker/friend left feeling much better, then when she arrived. Her discomfort and pain were both addressed. We both had a better understanding of her issue and the best way to address it. HORRIBLE! the last two times I was here I almost bleed to death after they pulled my IV out, which they never used? the first time it was a nurse and her mom is in charge of her but she just covers up for her? I dought if my accident was ever put in my chart? she told here mom she didn't know what happened I used two pieces of gaze and she told me I could get the blood out of my clothes with something like shout it out? and the next time I told the nurse what happened before with my IV and by the time she pulled it and I got to the lobby I was bleeding all over another shirt and destroyed it again? it's scary everytime I think I have to go to emergency here? it's SAD read more

Happy to reevaluate this review at a later date. I was barely able to sleep last night due to a fever and chills. I awoke this morning with half my face roughly four times the size a face should be. It is getting worse by the second so we felt the ER would be able to help. I showed up (2.5 hours ago) with not a single person waiting in line. They triaged me shortly after only to have me just sit here, writhing in pain for 2.5 hours now. Quite simply, they triaged incorrect and my face and body continues to degrade. One of the nurses was kind enough to be honest with me and say "based on how you were triaged, we have had to prioritize others." I'm not sure why a face four times it's size doesn't worry anyone. :/ read more

I had a procedure performed in the Sutter Coast Hospital Surgery Center last week. Everyone was wonderful. From check in to my pre-op nurses (Heidi and Dawn) to the anesthesiologist and surgeon to the post op nurse (Ryan). They were all very caring, attentive, efficient and professional. In my opinion, Sutter gets a bad rep from people in the area who don't have a great understanding of how healthcare works. Not every outcome is what is hoped for. The best thing hospital employees can do is to be as compassionate and caring as possible. That's exactly what I experienced at Sutter! And today I received a Thank You card from the whole crew! Both myself and the wife got the COVID shots in 2020. About 10 days ago we started having the COVID symptoms after eating out at a couple of local restaurants that didn't require masks. The government bus "OPTUM Serve" was in Crescent City, California, yesterday so we decided to do the free COVID nose swab testing where it was determined that we both in fact tested positive for COVID. Their staff told us to go to our local Sutter Coast Hospital ER immediately! After checking in they put wrist bands on us and told us to go sit on the wooden bench outside of the hospital and someone will come to get us to see a doctor. We sat there for three hours and no one came, so we got up and left. We are both 80 years old and this is a heck of a way to treat us, seniors!!! read more

This was the closest ER to brookings so when I cut my hand open we had no choice. They got us in fairly quickly but was very rushed. They gave me 9 stitches and looked like a 5 yr old did them. After a few days 4 of my stitches ripped out and had to go to urgent care in brookings a week later. Urgent care brookings couldn't believe they did not give me a brace so my hand couldn't move and said Shutter did a terrible job on my hand. Could still see the bone in my hand a week after my visit with Shutter. The doctor in brookings was surprised I did not get a bone infection and gave me a few pain pills so I could actually sleep at night. read more

Through no fault of my own, I recently injured myself at home and was unsure of the prognosis, so off to the Sutter Coast ER I went. After arriving at the ER and getting a bed after a short wait the testing began. Blood was drawn, an EKG scan was next followed by Xrays. So far so good. Nurses and technicians seemed courteous and professional. Then after what seemed like a long wait doctor Rebecca Samet flies into the room to do an exam. She mumbles something under her breath, I assume it was her name, then asks a question and while I'm answering commands me to take a deep breath while slapping her stethoscope on my chest and then repeats, question, answering, command and stethoscope. I'm impressed, here is a doctor who can check my heart and lungs in about 10 seconds while I'm talking! And never any mention or question about my injury. My ER review score just as fast goes from 5 stars to no stars at all! A while later she comes in tells me everything is fine and to go home. Thinking that maybe I caught this doctor on a bad day I decide to do some due diligence before doing a review. And at the speed of light I find her perfect record on Healthgrades at Dr. Rebecca Samet, MD - Emergency Medicine Specialist in Albuquerque, NM | Healthgrades . Twelve ONE STAR REVIEWS from nearly as many locations. I'm about to add my review making her score 13 one star reviews out of 13, or 100% BAD. The worst hospital and I've ever been to with the worst customer service. If it wasn't the only option in town, I'd NEVER go again. I've had two surgeries there, one of which they didn't complete because he said he "wasn't qualified" to do it. Not sure why he started a surgery if he wasn't qualified. Front desk is always rude and check in process is long and painful. My health is bad; always has been. Last ER trip a year ago they said, "You can't keep coming here. We know you just want pills." It's so extremely offensive and disrespectful for a doctor to say that to a patient, no matter what the case! I don't do drugs and I don't even drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes! I could go on and on about this place. Oh, and good luck getting an ultrasound if you have cysts or growths. My Dad was brought to this hospital with trouble breathing. He had been treated for cancer in for the last 8 months in Medford. The doctor sent him home for anemia . Two days later he returned via an ambulance as he couldn't breath. He died 4 days later from pneumonia. WARNING!! If they put him on a bypap, Make sure they swab their mouth for comfort. My Dad suffer all day with such a dry mouth his tongue was stuck to the roof of his mouth. Dennis in Intensive care was such a rookie, he had no clue as to handle someone who was dying. Place is empty, but I've been waiting over 30 minutes to get "admitted" so I can have a simple blood draw done at the lab for a doctor-ordered metabolic panel and cbc. It is always this way. One lady doing all admitting at 4 pm. Why can't the lab check its cliens in instead of lab customers getting "admitted" at front desk along with every other admission? Ridiculous. I underwent emergency surgery at Sutter Coast in December 2015 and spent 12 days as an inpatient. This is not a big city hospital, but their rotating/visiting surgeons are of big-city quality, and all three I dealt with were exceptionally qualified, and my surgery was very successful. The nursing staff is qualified, helpful and pleasant to deal with, albeit sometimes slow to respond because of short-staffing issues. Support staffers -- phlebotomists, food service, cleaning etc. -- are likewise pleasant but sometimes inexperienced, again because of short-staffing. (Phlebotomists tend to miss the vein.) In fact, in all my time here, I never encountered a single person who was anything other than helpful, engaged and communicative. That counts for a lot, even with the occasional fumbles. The ER can be very slow if busy, but they seem to triage well. It is very important for the patient to be engaged and proactive in the ER. No, it ain't UCSF, not even close... but I have trusted my life to Sutter Coast previously and would readily do so again if necessary. read more

Used Sutter Coast a few times. Had a surgery there that went excellent. Visited emergency room once and couldn't have been treated better. Lab and radiology departments all quick and professional. There are people in this town who just don't like Sutter because they expect Sutter to offer every service like the large university hospitals. Yes, when I have a kidney stone I have to go to Medford which I hate. My other option is to move to Medford - which I would hate even more. Quit complaining and be thankful we even have a hospital. I fell while hiking in the Redwoods and needed to go to the nearest Emergency Room. The staff at Sutter were all very kind and helpful from intake to the x-ray technician! I have had two procedures at the ambulatory surgery center and my husband has had one. In all cases, we were very happy with the staff and the level of care was excellent. The facility is clean and the equipment seems to be up to date. Dr. Duncan, my orthopedic surgeon, is great! His bedside manner is fabulous and his skill was top notch. Dr. Polidore is also wonderful. He also has a great bedside manner and he did a great job. I had several friends tell me how good he is, and they were right. Dr. Harrie took care of my husband and he also was very good. The staff did a great job with the before and after procedure care. They were efficient and professional, but very friendly and cheerful. We even received calls from the staff on the following day of every procedure to confirm that we were feeling good and make sure we didn't have any questions. The only reason I didn't give the hospital 5 stars is that Dr. Polidore and Dr. Harrie will be leaving at the end of 2017 and I have no knowledge of who will be filling their shoes. My understanding is that there will be traveling doctors and I don't believe that a small hospital like this one should do that. We need doctors who live in the community to build a good relationship/trust with their patients. read more

Honestly, the one star is for the nurses in the emergency room. I went in for extreme pain in my abdomen. I knew I had an ovarian cyst because it was already found a few months prior. However, it grew in that time period causing me to become nauseated and have level 10 pain everyday for a week. I could not eat because of how bloated I was from the cyst. Once in the ER, I had a CAT scan and the doctor found out that it had grown The the size of a softball. NOTHING was done about it and in fact the dr who found it laughed at its size. I was given only about two days worth of meds for when I went home. Obviously those went quickly. I went back a second time to the ER roughly 4 days later. I was "seen" by the OB who casually looked over my CAT scan, congratulated me on not having kids and compared my use of an IUD to a study of high schoolers getting pregnant (I am 27 and married), and then told me to come back in 1-2 months. Also, I was told I was ok to go so I did. Turns out I wasn't ok to go and needed to be checked out so they refused to refill my prescription. I thankfully got a second opinion in Grants Pass and was immediately seen. In fact, I was not a prior patient to Grants Pass and was told they would have to cancel my appointment and call me back. Because of what they saw with the CAT scan done by Sutter Coast, they called me back immediately and had me come in on the original appointment that was made only a week after the ER visit. I ended up having surgery to remove the cyst and was told yesterday at my pre-op appt that the cyst was so big it had started to turn and cut off blood flow. If I would have listened to the ER OB I had seen and waited 1-2 months, I would've lost my ovary and would've been devastated. I'm glad I decided to get a second opinion and had loved ones championing in my corner who urged me to go elsewhere. The doctors at Sutter coast are a complete joke that could potentially cause more damage than good. If the need arises again that I have to go to the ER, I would rather sit in pain for another 1.5 hr drive to Grants pass to get actual care than go to what has been dubbed "Slaughter Coast". read more

They are discriminating and last time I went in let me die of a stroke my doctor whom knew I had one coming on told me to go to the e.r. and when I did told me I was having a stress headache nothing more. The stroke hit me on May 31, 2017 that fucking hurt too bitches! They also discriminated against me 2 years ago when I went in for a cat bite, because of how I look they grouped me with the bums over there and wouldn't let me go have a cigarette before putting me in a room to take care of the infection the cat bite did to me. And when I asked why the doctor on call at the time replied "Because you might go do drugs" yeah I was really irate but didn't go have a cigarette. Then while in the hospital they didn't not keep me comfortable I was in severe pain the whole time and this is why I checked myself out because laying in a bed hurts too bad if I am not kept comfortable cause of my other health issues. My son came to visit me and we went out to have a cigarette when I came back in they treated me like a child from that point on and had the security guard follow me around. I checked myself at this point for I refuse to have anyone treat me like a child when I am a full grown adult and besides the pain from laying in their hospital bed was too great on me. read more

I ws seen in the Emergency Room. I was told by my doctor to go to the ER because I am a diabetic and my blood glucose was 700 at home (normal is about 100). I saw the triage nurse and he did another blood glucose which by then was over 800. I was sent to the lab to domyet another blood glucose which was 829. Obviously needing an insulin shot, I then waited 6 hours to be seen! This is shockingly bad service. I had very blurred vision and I could have sustained kidney or eye damage. I only needed an injection and some fluids but still had to wait a total of 7 hours for a simple procedure. This was a horrible and dangerous level of care. In addition, I never received a patient survey so I could complain about this. My husband had a colonoscopy done there this morning. The doctor, Dr Polidore was excellent as was the anesthesiologist, but the PACU care by Heidi was terribly impersonal. He felt he was being given the 'bum's rush' out of there and they could hardly wait for him to get out and stop bothering him. This is the only hospital within 75 miles so we are a captive audience. However, I don't think it's right for us to receive poor car. On the positive side, the hospital is very nice and the front desk people were great and so were the volunteers. read more

Worst hospital I've ever been to. Went to the er because of a miscarriage, and I waited 5 hours before I had any information. Maybe saw doctors and nurses for about 30 mins all together. And when I came here when my boyfriend broke his back it took 2 hours before they gave him pain killers when we got there at midnight and they didn't even help us with everything we needed. read more

I did not deal directly with this facility. But they are very lax on checking on who a person is and proof of Health Care Proxy. And a 56 year old man who passes in their ER and no autopsy is performed. We are talking major HIPPA violations! I was not notified by the hospital my brother had passed but a person we thought of family. Bad Bad I understand all of negative comments if they can't handle something so minor as who is POA. read more
