Very dirty, unkept, not up to code, cold, cheaply ran theater. You can catch some good artists at a decent price per ticket, however if you don't mind a 10lb rat running under your feet, garbage on the floor, and no soap in the restroom, this is a great place for you to be! The guy who runs it is very cheap-he's the only one wearing the mask on his face; you will know who he is.-he will not do anything to this place. His version of doing something was: he ran around the room with a white towel in his hand while the concert is on trying to catch this rat, then he said it was "too cute too catch" and gave up. 2 hours later, the rat ran under my feet and I passed out I was so terrified and not expecting of this thing coming in contact with me. Small intimate and a jewel for Sutter Creek. happened to be in town, and discovered that a live music was going to be performed. The band was The New Iberians and being a fan of Zydeco music was treated to a evening of Zydeco, Blues and Rock. Enjoyed my visit. read more

It's a great little theater for live performances that I'm told has been around about a hundred years. It only holds a couple hundred patrons and eclectic is the word that springs to mind concerning its offerings. It's mostly music these days, and I usually try to make the annual performance of Los Pinguos, in the spring, which is an Argentinian (originally) band that's really been popular with my Spanish students over the years, and developed something of a local fan base. Personally I'd like to see SCT offer more plays and include more home grown musicians. But they do get some really good performers there sometimes and it has an attached wine bar or some such, though that has been unreliable in my experience. read more

They have a couple great shows here every year that we look forward to.

I've been going here with my dad my whole life. The owners, Laura and Byron, are wonderful people and truly love maintaining this old theater (it's not easy!). They get great acts from just about everywhere - I've seen performers from Italy, Sweden, Korea, and the Yukon - and of the 100+ performers I've watched there have been very few that I would consider mediocre. Crowds vary hugely; some nights the place is packed to the gills, some nights there are four or five other people in the audience. I personally love a small audience night; you just can't get that experience with such great bands anywhere else. The acoustics of the theater are wonderful. I remember one night a few years back I was hanging out with Byron at the sound desk and a performer's microphone went haywire. They were near the end of the set so they just decided to go acoustic. It sounded so good that when they came back recently they went unplugged for their encore! Some details: Shows are usually $16-20 per person. Seating for roughly 100-200 people. There is a balcony, though my favorite seats are the lower floor, third row from the front, in the middle. Performers usually have a merch table; I'd say 75% stay and chat with the audience/sign CDs after the show. Genres fall within a wide range, but generally consist of bluegrass, jazz (usually lively guitar jazz), blues, and some rock. I think they have cover bands regularly but I don't go to many of those. They say crowds are generally larger for those. I've seen a lot of incredibly skilled guitarists and fiddle players, solo or with backup. It really saddens me to see the two-star review that was written here. I'm disgusted that the reviewer should suggest the owners don't care for this theater. As far as "complaining about profits," I think this man should retake economics and learn the difference between profit and revenue; this theater is entirely non-profit. Take your advice from a seasoned patron and treat yourself to the Sutter Creek Theatre. read more

This is a cute venue with old time charm. It needs work though, and you might do well to bring a butt pillow. We saw House of Floyd and had a rocking good time. There was even a very small selection of beer and wine (wine by the plastic cup) being sold in the lobby. read more

My husband and I are fans. The theater is very small so there are no bad seats. The prices are affordable - usually $20 - and the parking is free and close. Live entertainment is energizing and we go to performances wondering what the evening will bring. Have not been disappointed yet. read more

Great old Theatre - like stepping back in time. Very intimate setting and decent acoustics. Byron and Laura (owners) have done a great job keeping this piece of Sutter Creek history alive with a nice variety of shows. The reviewer who complained about the theater in 2010 could not be more wrong. Laura and Byron keep this establishment going on their own while still commuting to jobs in Sacramento. Yes, the place is old and a little funky, but the acoustics could NOT be better. Virtually every show we've seen here over the past seven years has been worthwhile, and some have been downright brilliant. The intimacy of the space and access to great live music more than compensate for the old-fashioned seats. Generally, the musicians interact with the audience during intermission or after the show. How often does than happen in the giant venues where most musicians perform? This place truly is the "epicenter of culture in Amador County." Come and check it out! read more

saw rupa and her april fishes at the SC theater last night with my wife and it was a great intimate venue for these kind of shows. vintage art neuveau painted ceilings and only holds 200 people including the balcony. really not a bad seat in the house. loved it and will see another show soon. read more
