Thanks to YGCG last fall I discovered this great little tasting room. While in Sutter Creek recently, I had friends join me in a return visit. As they were pretty busy inside, we took a large table out front on their beautiful garden patio. We kept Ilene hopping and laughing, as she brought out the various wines for us to taste. I came for some bottles of their Mourvedre, but disappointed. Everyone else enjoys it too and it had been sold out for a while. Feeling invincible, I purchased a bottle of Fearless. They bottle a few white wines, but mainly have a great selection of bolder reds. On hot summer days, they have held my wine purchases until 4:30 pm. As much as I love a warm sunny days, wine does not. There's a small public lot with four hour limit next door.

Baiocchi was a delightful a find during our wine crawl in Sutter Creek. It's cozy, charming, seemingly off the beaten path, and tucked away behind an antique store. It's still located on the Main Street, but you'll have to walk down a small path to find the entrance. I arrived first and decided to begin my tasting before everyone made it in. A taste of 4 wines will run you $5 which is waived with a bottle purchase. I was given a tasting list and chose 4 wines to taste. Out of the 4 that I tasted, I really enjoyed their Del Papa white blend and their 2014 Grenache the most. The Del Papa was so refreshing! It was light and floral, perfect to sip on a warm day. The Grenache was also on the lighter side. It had a subtle earthiness and spice that went well together. They were pairing their wines with stuffed mushrooms, and boy was it tasty! I didn't get the name of the sommelier who assisted me, but she was so knowledgeable and also extremely passionate about the wines. Their tasting room is dog friendly and I love that they sell wine by the glass here too. I enjoyed this more intimate approach to wine tasting. Baiocchi is adorable and I'm glad that I stopped here during my wine crawl.

What an unexpected pleasure! Excellent wines and service! I didn't catch my wine server's name... If you're ever in Sutter Creek, check this place out!

Despite many travels through Sutter Creek and many tasting room visits, including a longstanding membership in the Bella Grace wine club, I'd never set foot inside Baiocchi. Blame it on too many options or plain ol' bad timing. The stars finally aligned and my friends and I popped in on a Friday afternoon. I soon discovered this hidden gem has both wonderful wines and friendly service. Plus, the quaint and beautiful setting is a great place to set up shop for an afternoon. Wine lover or not, it's hard to resist this place. My wife and I were specifically looking for more whites to add to our collection, even with the knowledge that this isn't a region known for whites. Nevertheless, we found the 2015 Del Papa, a Viognier/Roussanne blend to be light and refreshing and couldn't resist the charms of our server, Kat, when being indecisive about what to purchase. By the way, the shop doubles as a place to find Kat's custom creations and designs, from glass and embroidered goods to these awesome carved barrel staves on display by the front door. The temptation to get one of those was strong as well. There's a lot of fine tasting rooms in Sutter Creek and Baiocchi is no exception. I look forward to a return visit when I'm next in the neighborhood.

Houses turned wine tasting havens... Main Street in Amador is the business. Park and you have nine wineries at your fingertips. Our day trip started at Biaocchi Wines, because we happened to park near it. It was a great introduction to the lovely wineries that reside on Main Street. The sweetest woman snuck her head out of the back as she heard our footsteps coming through the door. Before we even discuss the interior, the exterior is so quaint and sweet. There is a walk way that leads you down a paved path with flowers and greenery everywhere. There is a large porch with a few steps up, it literally looks like a cute little home. A home of yummy wines to be exact. When you walk in everything is clean and crisp is the best way I can put it. To your right is a little table with a board game, which I still don't know what it is. To your left is the L shaped tasting bar with wines on display. Around the bend is the restroom and the remainder of the house turned winery. It was such a warm and cozy feeling on a rather dreary day. The woman who greeted us said she doesn't normally work there, but was helping out. You would have never known. She was extremely knowledgeable and excited about the Biaocchi Wines. She told us we could have a select number of tastings for $5 or the whole list for $10. We decided to share the $10 tasting, which she (nor do any of the other locations) seem to mind. We were the only ones in there for the entire time we were there, so it was nice an intimate. Not a wine snob, so I can't really go into descriptive detail, but they have mostly reds, a couple whites, and a port. We ended up buying the G Minor, because we loved it so much. Apparently the husband/owner is really into music, which is evident through the labeling and name selections. He also only had one decoration in the entire tasting room - the California Raisins set, it was awesome! Almost like visiting a family friend, not a tasting room...

Baily was our awesome hostess. Pouring lovely wines in a beautiful outdoor setting. Great conversation and a super rep for Greg the owner. Of course we walked out with several bottles!! Oh yeah!

Wonderful whites and reds! If you like a good Grenache, then this is the place! The winemaker does a fantastic job of putting the right grapes together with the ending product being a superb glass of wine. The tasting room has a nice patio where you can bring your lunch and enjoy a glass of Greg's wines.

Here's a spot with unusually excellent wines. Flavors and aromas that are only in place with much more expensive wines.

Another wonderful day at Biaocchi Wines

This place is not only a place to taste wine, but cheese too! I tried cheese from Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Iowa. There were 4 cheeses and wine pairings for $15 each which is a great deal. They also had other appetizers to choose from for purchase. We had the shrimp fritters and they were exceptional cooked to perfection with a lovely homemade sauce. Gary the owner was the chef. It's a unique little shop on the main road right down from Sutter Creek Hotel! Tammy's son also works there Evan, he was busy cutting and weighting cheese to sell out of the cheese case up front. There a couple tables in the front, along with a couple tall tables in the back and a small bar with stools in the far back. The only bad thing is there isn't a public bathroom so you must cross the street and walk about a half block to the public restrooms. Other than drop in for a tasting you won't be disappointed!!!

The pour was barely enough to cover the bottom of the glass. The cheese tasting was literally one piece of cheese the size of maybe an m&m, what you might use to bait a mouse trap. The lady did bring a 3rd taste of cheese even though we had only 2 tasters. Liked the cheeses and bought 2 thinking that would cover the tasting. Nope. $30 for the tiniest taste of wine and cheese was not a great experience. Just disappointing.

Negative was that she almost- surly? Like you could tell she was definitely not happy to be there. Says she was thinking about buying the business from a current owner. Also the rate online was 25 per hour. She charged us 180 for 5 hours-apparently 30 per hour plus her pre-determined "tip". Hmmmm. Not worth fighting over and definitely cheaper than a dui but if there are options, maybe try those. I just paid the lady and I definitely wish her well but that was not awesome.

Dannette came 30 mins late, no reason or apology given. She was upset that she didn't get to sit with us at the second winery. She left us at the third winery to pick up our take-out order and should have been back within 40 minutes. Almost an hour and a half after she left, she finally answered my call and said she'd be back soon- she came 30 minutes after the winery had closed, she was not in our car/ was in a different car (that didn't fit all of us), had not picked up the food. She didn't have gas and again had no apology or reason for any of this. It was very unprofessional, dangerous, and quite frankly scary. We almost called law enforcement since we didn't know where she had taken our car. Do NOT recommend going anywhere near this business.- WAY BETTER OPTION https://www.amadorwinecountrytoursllc.com/about
