The good about this location was that it was easy to get to and the event coordinators that hosted a Jiu Jitsu tournament was spot on. The facility is definitely in need of an upgrade and better staffing. The set up for the tournament could've been better. And the WiFi access? Why have a guest option if you don't offer it ? Many people accessed their times for the tournament. I hope they do some renovations and staff changes as they lack in this department. read more

See my previous review for program info. This is an updated review after a few years of being in their travel ball programs. The facilities remain well kept and the snack bar has returned to being open post-Covid. The facility runs a variety of basketball and volleyball programs. Over time, the quality of the program has been in decline while costs increase. The focus on conditioning and playing through practice still prevails and is a good thing. Game play lacks play structure and is more run and gun. The costs continue to escalate not just for being on a team, but door costs have doubled with some tournaments topping $15 a day. They also charge $5 to park for your own home court for many tournaments. Lastly, the programs we've been in seem to cater to those who pay for the most programs. Hard to see if there is any different criteria as playing time seems to dramatically fluctuate for no reason. Having paid coaches for travel ball is a plus. read more

DON'T WALK...RUN.......NOT WORTH IT AT ALL......SAVE YOUR MONEY In all fairness, the first two sessions led by the lead coach were ok. The lead coach appeared to be knowledgeable and eager to work with the children. After that, I did not see this coach again. Instead, two females were assigned to work with the team. The two ladies operated more like PE coaches instead of focusing on the fundamentals and helping to take the kids game to the next level as promised in the advertisement. The drills consisted of 10 - 12 kids throwing a ball in one hoop. Meanwhile, there was two open hoops not being utilized. It was unclear why the team was not divided as it was extremely overcrowded. On several occasions, I observed kids getting hit in the face with basketballs that were flying from random directions. During which time, the female coaches just stood around talking instead of providing the kids with direction or support. The team was not broken up according to their grades and ability as advertised. All were allowed to play together. I spoke with one of the parents, who indicated that her son was on the Autism Spectrum. I was uniquely disturbed witnessing her son get ignored by the coaches, who appeared to be ill-equipped to work with children with special needs. On several occasions, this parent had to remain on the court to provide her son with individualized instruction, and to further prevent him from getting hit in the face by a ball. Daily contest and team versus team competitions did NOT occur at all and was yet another mis advertisement. I was disappointed with my son's experience, who also stated that he did not learn anything. I was planning on signing my son up for the travel team, but after this experience, I decided against it. read more

My son is 6 and has very little basketball skills, but after one session at this place I can see that his dribbling has improved and I know with more sessions he will be able to make more baskets. This place has a great program to keep the kids busy working on building the basic skills in basketball. There are several coaches work with the kids. They have smaller breakout sessions and I do wished that the coaches would offer some individual advice to help. Overall I am very impressed and highly recommend this if you have a child trying to learn or a child that is already skilled. read more

While the facilities are beautiful, the level of coaching & actual skill learning just DOES NOT make the mark! My son (age 14, grade 8th) participated in the boys 7th & 8th grade league this past fall/winter season) our coach did not seem to have a clue. The was zero continuity to how he coached. He did nothing to bring the team together! The boys were not even taught basic ball handling skills. I personally sat thru EVERY practice & game. Overall I'm completely displeased. I would expect this sort of thing from a community league, not something that costs several hundred dollars. We will NOT be back or recommend This league to anyone! I will say on a positive note (this the 2 stars I did give) the director Naydia was great. Communication was good. They just have got to get some better coaches working with these kids & start teaching some fundamentals. read more

My son has played basketball for many years and played at SSA several times. We have never had any complaints; however, charging families to park plus the inflated entry fee is out of control. Parents already pay for their kids to play on travel teams to get experience and exposure. A fee to get in is understandable, but paying to park plus $22 at the door is unexceptionable!! My family and I were attending a Bob Gibbons tournament at the gym. My son plays travel basketball. The gym was Very clean. Friendly staff. They don't have a ATM Machine on site; however, they did had accommodations of accepting credit card for purchase and entry to the game. Can't wait to visit again. read more

Do not recommend for summer camp if you have a younger child. My daughter was only 6, on summer break from kindergarten, and every time I dropped her off and picked her up I felt slightly uncomfortable. There seemed to be no clear direction given to the kids, not enough adults per kid, and none of them seemed to be paying attention to the kids... Security was a joke. She went here for a week. I was supposed to be given something to show I was there to pick her up. Never received one. Wasn't even asked to show it until the pick up on the last day. Seriously?! When I would pick her up, half the time there wasn't even a person at the front door to check you in. In the "camp" rooms, I would have to actually search for the adults half the time. I would not be surprised if I heard a kid was taken from this establishment. This place may be good for older kids, but honestly, I just breathed a sigh of relief when the week she came here was over. read more

My 10 year old son played winter recreation basketball at SSA and it was a very good experience. His coach was knowledgeable and thorough. It was suggested that my son try out for their 4th grade travel basketball team. They charge $20 just to try out yet they filled the team with kids not skilled to play at the travel basketball level. The fee SSA charged to play travel ball after being selected was $890......we barely had enough players and the paid coach was not very good. Our team was totally incapable of competing against the other 4th grade teams we faced. Our average margin of loss was 20 or more points. SSA charges more than all of the other travel teams we faced but was unable to place a competitive team on the court and this was NOT the first year......its a trend with them. read more

We visit this facility yearly for basketball tournaments. It provides multiple courts which cuts down on driving from school to school for large tourneys which is helpful. Facility is nice and usually well maintained. There is a little area for concessions to keep the money in house but not my cup of tea. Good for the participating kids. read more

i play AVL volleyball here because i am homeschooled so where else am i supposed to go? its quite the drive from my alpharetta home, an hour to be exact, but its worth it. there are tons of coaches for every sport so im sure you can find one that doesn't suck. the gym(s) are really nice, each containing like 10 courts, and they have a track around the 2nd floor of the gym, complete with exercise machines. but the place is tucked away right off the highway and the turn is hidden by trees so its easy to miss. overall i definitely recommend SSA. read more

Rising 8th graders. Didn't see one kid box out, cut thru, pick and roll, move without the ball, no butt down, palms up, no split view between man and ball, no switching or communication...nothing. All I saw was fancy isolation dribbling, drive to basket and kick back out for the three point shot. In other words, Lebron ball. This is how basketball is being taught today. This lack of fundamental teaching is why most of these kids won't be effective in high school. I'm no basketball expert, but do expect basketball common sense to be taught. I just didn't see it. My son has been going to SSA for afterschool care for about 3 years. It is definitely a great place for older elementary school kids. Many daycares are fantastic for smaller children but once kids get a little older they need a bit more activity. The staff keeps them very active with organized games and constant movement. I would recommend SSA for slightly older kids and those parents that want their children to learn to be active teenagers. read more

Enrolled my 12 year old in a group training session - great experience. Enrolled my same child in a travel tryout for a 7th grade team - terrible experience. The team he was placed on was an embarrassment to everyone involved. A complete money grab by SSA. Most of the players on the team had no business being on a travel team. The team won 1 game all season and were blown out of most of the other games. A complete waste of time and money. The "coaches" at SSA gave us one B.S. Excuse after another and never would man up and admit to their mistake in putting this team in the travel arena. We will NEVER spend another cent at this establishment. read more

Would not recommend. My son was in a Basketball league and received very little instruction. 2 Evaluations, 5 "Training" sessions and 13 games. "Coaches" called the games as referees and did not instruct during the game. By season end, coach did not know any of the boys names. He was often tardy or absent. Issues were brought up to director during season and very little was done to resolve issues. The "coach" was late for the last regular season game. Finding out from parents on other teams that we may have tournament tomorrow. Was not notified from the Academy or "coaching" staff. Will not use these guys in the future or recommend them to others. read more

My son has participated in the My Sport afterschool program for almost three years. The biggest advantage is the fact that the facility allows the children more than enough space to play indoors; therefore, their activities are not determined by the weather. The coaches are great with the children and ensure the kids stay active. Coach Cooper has a true gift and knows every child in the program personally. My son loves his time at SSA and I am appreciative to have a safe place for him to burn some of that extra energy in a structured program. read more
