I was recommended April and tried her out for a trial. I was absolutely shocked... it was me but an absolutely freaking awesome looking me. I told April I wish I could look like that everyday. After my trial, I literally stayed out as late as I could just so I didn't have to wash my make-up off. But, I won't lie. I had never had make-up done before, so I tried out two more people just to make sure. Now those other two make-up artists were really good as well, but hands down, April just got what I wanted. She saw the pictures I sent and listened to me. April told me what would and wouldn't look good with my face, my dress, and my wedding colors. Not only that, but she even tried out some different pallets on me another time, just to make sure it was exactly what I wanted for my wedding. April wanted my wedding day to be my perfect day for me. My mom and one of my bridesmaids, also not big make-up aficionados, both looked stunning the day of as well. April has an eye for make-up and skin like it's art. I felt amazing the day of my wedding from the moment I was finished from her chair from the moment my head hit the pillow a million speedy but blissful hours later. I should probably mention my day was filled with endless happy tears and 97 degree weather in a full outdoor wedding with no contingency plan for air conditioning or make-up redos. Hannah is very flexible - you can go to her studio in Laguna Beach (with free parking) to get glammed up, or she will happily go to you or your venue. I decided to meet her at her studio and it's such a charming, cute studio! She has all the proper lighting to ensure your makeup matches your skin tone. I spent about 2 hours with Hannah. I showed her some past photos of myself with professional makeup on from past events, showed her what I liked and also showed her photos of the dress that I was going to wear. She is really easy to talk to - she's really friendly! The time just flew by. Hannah uses Chanel facial products (expensive!) and I was delighted to see at how natural and beautiful Hannah made me look for my photo shoot. I LOVED my makeup! Genna was punctual and arrived right on time at 6AM. She had all her equipment on her and set-up quickly (I was quite impressed on how seamless and organized she was, she even brought her own light and chair for the make-up station). She did the hair for 2 of my bridesmaids, make-up for my mom and mother-in-law, and my hair and make-up. Each of showed her a picture of what we wanted/what we were aiming for and she able to re-create. Everyone looked so beautiful!! I didn't do a trial because I live in Boston, but Genna allotted extra time for this the day of the wedding. OMG Genna did such an amazing job on my hair and make-up!! I was so happy with how it turned out and what is even more amazing is that I looked just as good at the end of the night! However, I don't want anyone else to have an experience similar to mine. First off, I think her makeup skills are amazing and loved her makeup work. She took into consideration my photographer's editing style and how the makeup would show up in the photos. She's also a bubbly person that was very easy to talk to. Makeup Trial in 2020: Makeup turned out great in the photos. It took me a bit to get comfortable with how it looked in person, because I wasn't used to wearing much makeup, but she talked me through everything and wanted to make sure I was comfortable. The makeup still looked great at the end of the night though too - and this is after doing an ocean-side photoshoot. The cons: - She ran 5-10 minutes behind schedule and the trial ended up taking longer than expected due to struggles with my hair; so I had to rush to make it to my engagement shoot. However, I did appreciate how Crystal still took the time to listen and try to correct things. - My hair - I wanted a half up, half down w/ curls hairstyle. In a call beforehand, I had explained to her how my hair has a difficult time keeping curls and that I usually can only get a hold with a straightener. I can't remember if she used a curling wand or a curling iron, but the curls were already falling flat during the trial. By the time of the photo shoot, my hair was lightly wavy. By the end, it got pretty flat. She did offer a discounted retrial to try another technique to see if my hair would hold better. I didn't end up doing a retrial since I had to reschedule my wedding. (Rescheduled) Wedding Day in 2021: I had booked Crystal for makeup for my wedding for myself and my mom. The days beforehand, she mentioned how she was getting vaccinated. Skip forward to the morning of my wedding. I wake up a little over 2 hours before our appointment time, and I notice a text from Crystal that was sent less than 6 hours before our appointment. She says she's so sorry, she's been having chills and nausea and that she's unsure if she can cover and she's reached out to her immediate artists. I don't hear from her again until 1.5 hours before our appointment, she confirms that none of her artists have reached back out to her yet. I'm not sure, but it seems that she became symptomatic because of the vaccination. At that time, it was known that people get side effects from vaccinations, so I thought it was unprofessional to schedule a vaccination right before a booking. It also did not help that Crystal was unable to find a replacement. It was such a stressful morning... In the end, luckily my friend found someone else available to do my makeup and my mom went to a salon.
