I'll give you my exact situation because I don't believe in hyperbole…read more I'm a disabled veteran and was paying to go to an online learning program that was supposed to give me the credentials I needed to get my foot in the door to work with animals. I knew that I was only starting for my own benefit and edification, that I am permanently disabled, so I was shopping around for a school that was online and $1000 or less so I could manage the payments. I'm not even sure at this point that the school (Career Step) is accredited properly. I'm still looking into that. At any rate, apparently this is the company that the school sold my loan to. I don't understand why and I don't understand why that is even legal. I thought I was paying the school directly, monthly. I received a payment booklet in the mail, much like one might see with a car insurance company. These people seem almost more like a bill collector. They cannot tell me who all businesses they manage or collect for. I paid (credit card auto draft) monthly for veterinary tech school. Apparently the school I used had me sign something which caused me to receive a letter later saying that I was now obligated to Monterey. Had I had a chance to read reviews here on yelp or Google I would've never went to that technical school because I'm a bachelor degree level college-educated woman, and any tech school that would use a company like this is not a legitimate school in my opinion. I'm curious as to why they have not been investigated by the Better Business Bureau, or some other entity. In fact, I just called them now to find out why they don't report monthly to the credit bureau like school loans are supposed to. My report shows that I've never had a school loan, which is a lie. This is my first and only one. But one call to their company number and I noticed that all I get is voicemail and no option to leave a message. That's not legitimate. Even if I press zero. So I wonder if they went out of business. If somebody has a legitimate number for them where a human being answers, please let me know. Thank you. As I read through their reviews, I see that most of the people are like me: They are someone who got a loan through one company, and these folks are like some sort of intermediary, with a physical address supposedly here in the States, but nowhere can go in and speak to a human being. That is not how business is done. Subpar subprime lenders are becoming this way. But my credit was good; no need for my college to sell my loan off to some sub-par company to ruin my credit and report things as late payments when it's not even a legitimate school loan. My credit report literally says that I've never had a school loan. So, that makes me also question the school that I attended. Will be having a serious talk with them also, because I did not finish the program and I was supposed to be able to go at my own pace because of my medical issues. Just be forewarned: You can get a loan through them but you may as well pay them off early with a credit card like I did because you will be dealing with a myriad of people, who are not bankers or bank representatives but just some lackey on the phone who doesn't understand why your loan just keeps going up and up and up when it's supposed to be an interest-free loan. Our government needs to shut down subpar lenders, including anything fly-by-night, 25% to thousand % interest lenders that prey upon the poor, desperate, the under-educated, or overworked. May I suggest Dave Ramsey? I am back to working his plan instead of "Worshiping at the altar of the credit score." Supposedly he is lobbying to work to shut down the payday loan, and the other subprime lenders. I've had better respect out of payday loan places; at least they answer the phone. And I have not used a payday loan lender for like a decade. I learned my lesson the hard way. Just say no! --------------------------------------------------- Update half-hour later when Maya called me back. Apparently they are on Pacific Time. She is struggling to find my loan in the system. Twenty-five minutes later we have both located my paid off account and looked at my online account payment history. I have no late payments. She found me but can't explain to me why my paid and closed loan for $1,432.59 doesn't show up on my credit report as a school loan. I paid my loan off about six months early...all she tells me is "maturity date was the 20th of each. Credit is reported to the bureau monthly." Per Maya, Customer Service Representative.

Although I am not reviewing as a client, I am leaving this review as a future client of Root…read moreFinancial Partners. If you're reading this, then most likely you are on the journey in getting better informed financially for retirement. And because you're looking up Root, then most likely you ran across videos of Ari and/or James on YouTube just like me, or on Podcast. When I initially started researching retirement for my wife and myself, I was fortunate enough to have "the algorithm" direct me to Root with James and Ari. The more I watched their videos, the more I became informed of answers to questions I did not know I had. What really drew me in to watch more of their videos, was their holistic approach to retirement, which was an option I was never aware of. And combine that with their ability to explain complicated strategies using their software with real case studies was a bonus. Anyways, back to the review... I reached out to Ari directly via email, and to my surprise, he responded directly to me (I was expecting a form letter). He personally answered the general questions I had and we scheduled a meeting to determine if they can bring value, to justify their fee structure. Unfortunately, when he reviewed my current portfolio structure/allocation in detail, he was honest and said they could not bring value to justify their fees. He then proceeded to offer some guidance to other advisors they recommend, and further explained how specific advisor strategies would be better attuned to my needs in the near term. I really appreciated his candor... But what really stands out is his willingness and continues to help as much as he can, of course without providing specific investment guidance. Up until now, even though I'm not a client, he continues to take the time to respond and answer questions I have from time to time. And not just basic answers, but simplified, detailed video explanations for a better/easier understanding. I can go on with this review, but after a while, it might sound too good to be true. All I can say is reach out to Ari (Root), and you'll see what I mean. Once we're closer to retirement and can take advantage of the holistic approach they provide, we'll be sure to reach out again. Thanks again Ari!
