I'm so glad I found this adorable little place. I love good Indian food. Unfortunately, there are many average Indian joints but very very few really good ones. This place is one of those. First of, I love the atmosphere and energy inside. It's perfect for date night or an evening out with close friends. tastefully decorated, warm ambiance and cozy layout with rocking Feng Shui going on. Nice. Careful, it you get a window seat you might not wanna leave. The Veggie Pakoras were splendid. So much flavour, crispy in all the right places and flaky in the centre. Truly what Pakoras are known for...A must piece in an Indian dish. The Butter Chicken. Very simple. Once I finished the perfectly cooked chicken, I took the sauce home. Yes, that's how good it was. I couldn't waste it. The same with the Lamb Hyderabadi. The lamb chunks actually tasted like lamb.....awesome. I was looking for a place to eat after a hike to the nearby Lighhouse. Well we founf Swad. This has to be one of the best Indian resturants. I have a large vehicle parking on street was easy and they also have a lot behind the resturant. The owner's son Saihip was our host and explained all the specials, for starters we had the pakoras with awesome chutneys for main course we had Chicken Tikka Masala, Tarkha Dal. Naan and veggie pulao. Everything was perfectly spiced and veggies were not overdone, the Chefs are trained as noted from quality of food. This is the place to go for Indian! No parking hassles and they have a nice patio, my dog was happy to be with us. read more

I came for a dinner with a big group. We had several items: gobi 65 - ok. A little too heavy on the batter for my taste. Rack of lamb - grilled - overcooked but nicely seasoned Grilled prawns - huge prawns, nicely cooked, sadly way too salty Chicken Tikka - average Butter chicken - average Bengali curry with fish - too salty lamb saagwala - good, but not much lamb in it mango chutney, raita basmati rice - great. fragrant ,cooked nicely. Overall the food is average for Indian food. Not a ton of competition on the North Shore so I suppose it is pretty good, but compared to the sheer abundance of Indian places in metro Vancouver, this one is pretty average. Some of their dishes have potential to be a lot better if they just nail the execution, e.g. better seasoning, perfect cook on the proteins, not too much salt, etc. Restaurant was clean and comfortable. Incredible Late Valentine's Dinner at Swad! I visited Swad Indian Kitchen for their Dine The Villages special event, and it was the perfect way to celebrate a late Valentine's Day. The Kachumber Salad was a great, fresh start to the meal. For the main courses, the Mango Chicken was absolutely delicious with the perfect hint of sweetness, and the Goan Fish Curry was incredibly flavorful and authentic. Both paired perfectly with the Biryani rice. Everything was so yummy, and the $45 set menu is a fantastic deal for the quality of food you get in West Vancouver. This is the best Indian food I know of on the North Shore. Very reliable and delicious menu choices. Excellent quantity, and very pleasant and attentive wait staff. A warm and inviting atmosphere. O enjoy going here a few times a year, especially to treat friends or clients to a nice, authentic, Indian lunch or dinner. In the summer it is fun sitting on the deck in that back. I really enjoyed Swad! I had a reservation here at 5:30 on a Saturday with some friends before a concert at a hall nearby, and we were about 15 minutes late due to traffic, but they didn't seem put off which was a relief, probably because they weren't too busy yet, although it was getting there by the time we left. The ambiance inside was so nice; the decoration was elegant and classy but not overstated, the lighting low and warm, and the chairs comfortable. The vibe is a little upscale (more than we were expecting) but not inaccessible at all. I ordered the Reshami Paneer, a Pudina Parantha, and a Salty Lassi - all were excellent. I haven't seen this paneer dish at a restaurant before and really liked it - it was zingier than similar paneer curries like kadai paneer or paneer tikka masala and tasted very vibrant. I ordered medium spice and it fell just about where I expected it to. The level was good for me, although I could've handled a little spicier - if you're used to the medium spice level from super authentic places, this was a little less than that, but I think about average for the majority Canadian or American Indian restaurants. Others in my group ordered the butter chicken and palak paneer and had good things to say. My one friend is sensitive to heat and ordered his butter chicken mild, and said it was fine for him. The parantha was very flaky and almost doughy on the inside, just how I like it, and fragrant with the mint. The lassi was nice and smooth, not too heavy, and made a nice accompaniment to my meal. Our food came out in a very timely manner after ordering. The à-la-carte mains and breads are decently-sized portioned for one person, but the rice sides, which others at my table shared, are enough for 2 people each. Our waiter was very personable, but he really tried to push us to order appetizers and desserts, which would have been fun and cute if that was what we wanted, but we had a pretty clear idea of what we wanted and did have somewhere to be after, and I think we all felt awkward declining. It was also a challenge to get his attention to get the bill once we were finished. When we were ready for the bill, he seemed a little puzzled by our request to have it split - it was no problem for him to split it evenly 4 ways, but we had all ordered our own entrees and breads and I had gotten my own drink; the rices were the only thing that was shared. But I guess the dishes are intended to be shared so that's what they assumed we did. Everything was close enough in cost that we just went with it, and our totals before tip came out to $26 per person, which isn't bad at all considering the quality of food and the general dining experience. I think these little awkward things we encountered can largely be attributed to our expectations being a little off and them not getting much of a uni student crowd. I had to try the butter chicken which was at the top of the list for the best I have ever tasted. We ordered two fabulous vegetable dishes, Aloo Gobhi Vegetable Korma, both were wonderful. Our waiter recommended the saagwala dish, and the spinach sauce was amazing! It was very filling, especially with the two beers we also ordered. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it's a bit pricey for two people, and the portion sizes are small for four people. I was about to give this restaurant a 4 star review because the food was good. However, right at the very end things changed. We were a group of 7 and yes I understand that normally for large groups tips are added onto the bill. However, not all restaurants do that and I admit there are some ignorant people that really trust the restaurant to be accurate with the bill. We were one of the victims that did not look thoroughly before paying. The restaurant added 20% onto the bill (Which is quite steep...most restaurants do that max 18%) and the server never told us about it. My husband did not look closely at the bottom that said service fee. Therefore, he paid adding an extra percentage of tip. When I found out it was too late. The server saw me realizing the mistake and never rectify the situation. He just wanted that extra tip and the service did not justify that extra percentage. I thought it would have been professional for the server to notify us about the 20% tip and be honest before we paid. They could have deleted the tipping option on the machine so we would not add the extra tip. Instead they allowed us to tip on top of the 20% tip and was quiet hoping we would not catch this. Let's say I do not recommend this place because they are not professional. We are from Toronto. Let's say the next time we are in Vancouver we will not head to this restaurant again!!! Also, I learnt my lesson, I will ALWAYS going to look closely at the bill especially if I eat with large group. read more

Searching for a place to enjoy a nice dinner prior to a concert at the nearby Kay Meek Arts Centre, we came upon Swad whilst strolling along Marine Drive. A beautiful room with terrific service. This set the ambience for a wonderful dining experience. The food was very good and was prepared with care and precision. We enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer very much - sweet and tangy, it opened our palates nicely. On special was a chicken kabab marinated with herbs, lemon and yogurt - very tender and flavourful. We ordered the Swad E Lamb for our main, coconut curried lamb, was very good. The curry was prepared to our desired spice level, a wonderful detail. They offer a customer appreciation night on Monday and Tuesday with 25% discounted off all good items. The was a great opportunity to discover a West Vancouver gem. To say the food at this place was good... is an understatement for sure. I am a big, big fan of Indian cuisine and this place sure did solidify that. First off, I cannot explain enough in words how beautiful the décor of this place is. I absolutely love that it's a darker feel and that there aren't fluorescent lights. It makes it feel more intimate and warm... if you get what I mean. We started off our meal with the chicken "lollipops" and veggie pakora. Both were so delicious that I could've ordered more of those and made it my meal. Those sauces that were brought out too made the veggies that much more enjoyable (the green one was my favorite). For our group, we ordered 3 different chicken curries (butter chicken, chicken korma & another I cannot remember), a lamb one (not a fan of lamb so I didn't ask what it was) and gobhi butter masala (which is cauliflower) and I tried the chicken curries and my mind was blown out of the water with how delicious everything was. Another thing you want to check out is their bar menu. I myself tried the raspberry lemonade cocktail and it was refreshing as anything, would be the perfect drink on a hot summer's day. this is an absolute sham of a restaurant!!! we went in to dine-in and spotted a rat running across the restaurant floor and it was literally climbing on top of the seats whilst scurrying around for crumbs! this was shortly after we placed our order. it was truly disgusting to see a rat inside of a so-called restaurant located in the "heart of west van" as it goes to show just how dirty and vile the premises are kept! it also completely ruined our appetite for the evening as we didn't realize we would have some unwanted company during our meal. they are clearly cutting all corners possible when it comes to hygiene. if all this wasn't preposterous enough, when we showed the rat to the stupid server lady and asked her if this was concerning..she went on to claim that the "windows were kept open during the day". do you really want us to believe that as your reason?! we left the restaurant immediately upon hearing this claim of that brain-dead server lady (who really should be fired) and have since reported the restaurant with video/photo evidence of the rat to the food & safety board. please do not visit for your own safety as the food could very well be tainted. read more

Best indian food on the North Shore hands down. I might even say in Metro Vancouver. The service is amazing as well! Our server came and checked on us about 4-5 times throughout the night and filled my water promptly as I finished it. I had the chicken korma and it was sweet and absolutely delicious. A little bit too rich so I didn't finish it, but wow, it was the best meal i'd had in a long time. The buttered naan is also some of the best naan i've ever had. You know this Indian is flavorful and tasty and all the good stuff Indian food can be but it really isn't great Indian food. We found that everything was super saucy and the super saucy sauce was because of tons of canned tomatoes. If you imagine that for a minute along with a medium spice level even though we requested hot, you are probably thinking about another mediocre Indian restaurant. Which is basically all this place is. The basmati rice biryani was also very saucy dosed in the same tomato sauce. Interesting menu. Very nice decor, modern and freshly renovated. However, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. The entrées were VERY SMALL. Mostly gravy, not very hearty. My fish dish had only two tiny pieces of Basa. The bread was old and cold. The rice had burnt cumin seeds (super lazy chef). One dish had slivers of raw ginger on top, not good. Half way through my meal I bit into a whole cardamon pod, not very nice at all! Overall the food was very amateurish and totally over priced ($14 to $21 ala carte). The service was not Professional. The staff was obviously the owners. I asked for rice and nan for a table of four. I got one nan and one rice. After I placed my order, I didn't see my waitress again until I asked another server for more rice and nan. She came by to confirm what I told the other girl then disappeared again. Don't expect a quick meal, you are here for the ambience, right? Limited Indian food menu, surprisingly highly priced for the portion sizes, but you are here for the ambience, right? Quality of food, the limited amount we got, was good, tasty. Butter nan was hot and fresh. Rice was fresh. Butter chicken was very good. Partner's meal seemed OK, Not your normal sharing environment, so I'm guessing here. Be prepared to order extra dishes. There are other places to go if you are really hungry, but for a romantic tête-à-tête, this would be fine, plenty of time to talk before they take your order, and then before the food arrives. Probably the best Indian meal I've had ever. Way better than Fusion on Lonsdale. The fish pakoras to start were delicious! My partner and I shared a butter chicken dish with a delicious rice, some buttered nan bread, and a mildly spicy vegetable dish with cheese. All SO tasty! For desert we shared a homemade pistachio ice cream topped with a mango sauce. When our friends told us that their young boys always wanted their birthdays at Swad, I knew I had to try it. The staff is lighthearted, friendly, funny, yet still very professional. They have a good wine selection and the best Indian Food on The North Shore. I would argue that it is some of the best in all of the Lower Mainland. Worth...Every...Penny! I have visited Vancouver more than 15 times from Seattle over the period of last 5 years. This was the first time I visited West Vancouver. I was in search of a good Indian restaurant around west Vancouver similar to I liked the most (Tasty India Bistro in Surrey). I looked through some Google search results and read through reviews and decided to visit Swad. Well, i was glad i made a right choice. Ambience is really great. I will give 4/5 for Ambience. Service is also great, friendly staff and quick in response. I will give 5/5 for service. Coming to the most important part, taste and hands down everything that we ordered surpass my expectations on taste. So i will give 6/5 for taste - yes well deserved one extra star there! Price wise its little bit expensive IMO but i think its worth that little extra money. I would recommend to try to Lamb curry and Lachha Paratha. It was just amazing! We had order Jeera (cumin seed tempering) Rice but that had too much of Jeera on rice. All in all I would surely plan to visit this restaurant once again while in the area. read more
