Pawan's in North Vancouver was one of the best stops on our road trip from California to BC. We had paneer pakora, fish pakora, naan and shahi paneer. Our kids love paneer and they were in heaven. Had this delivered to my motel from door dash and it was 10/10! Butter chicken was incredibly flavorful, perfectly balanced and the chicken was so tender and juicy! I was so bummed I couldn't finish the whole dish or keep it for leftovers as I was flying the next day. But dang it was so good! Garlic naan was "meh" but in a garlic snob. I stopped by Pawans yesterday after exploring the Lynn Creek suspension bridge not too far away. Since my wife and I got there around 5:00 p.m. before the typical dinner rush hours, there was no wait for a table. We ordered a palak paneer to share. The entree comes with plain naan (that cannot be upgraded to a flavored or stuffed naan), so we added on a garlic naan and a paratha. My wife loves stuffed cheese naan, but that can't be ordered on its own for whatever reason - it must be ordered as a side entree with dips for $13, so we sadly weren't able to try that out. The mild spice level palak paneer definitely lacks flavor compared to if you were to order it with more spice: if you have a decent spice tolerance, you will enjoy the dish more if you opt for a spicier version than mild. Generous amounts of cheese in the dish, and more than enough to share if you order as much flatbreads as we did. The naan is really well made. Great gluten structure with lots of bite to it. The paratha is super flakey as well without being overly oily. Worth stopping by if you're in the area and are craving Indian food. read more

My husband and I live nearby and we always go for the lunch special. It's soooo good. You get a variety of small-medium sized dishes - it's the perfect mix. The food is always flavourful and spice level is perfect for me, I usually get a mild or medium. I wish there was a dinner special because we'd be there more often. This was probably my best meal out of about 15 other places throughout Seattle and Canada. Everything we had was pretty authentic and fresh. Service was great from start to finish and the menu comes complete with daily specials. We ended up trying both the chicken masala and goat masala and they were both excellent. We used medium spicy and that was plentiful, spicy but not overbearing to the point where you can't taste the other spices. Ambiance isn't everything but the food more than makes up for that...don't expect the water front views and so forth. Great customer service and excellent food are certainly the Pros of this place...I'd go a step further and say this is probably top 3 in my Indian food experience. This family-owned place cooks up some seriously good Indian food. The service is fast and friendly and the portions are large as well. Parking could be difficult since there is no parking lot. There is metered parking along the street but those are usually taken. After circling the block a few times, I decided to park in the parking lot across the street while keeping an eye on my car from my table so that it does not get towed. I ordered the chicken biryani and the goat curry special (rice and naan included for the special). A few North Van friends told us about Pawans Indian Kitchen. We finally were able to try them out for a late lunch. They're next door to Chili Lee and Amir Bakery. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 2:00pm). It was dead but quite a few people popped in for takeout. Service was friendly and prompt. They ask you what spice level you want (mild, medium or hot); we went with mild to accommodate our friend. They have a thali lunch special (weekdays from 11:00am to 3:00pm, weekends from 12:00pm to 3:00pm). The main menu is split into appetizers, soups and salads, vegetarian, chicken, lamb, seafood, tandoori sizzlers, rice, naan and desserts. - 2x Chai tea ($3.00) - bland and boring. Not enough spices to add any complexity. - 7 Item non-vegetable thali ($13.50) - thali was okay but I wouldn't get it again. Found the butter chicken sauce overly sweet. Tandoori chicken was tastier. Chana masala was bland. Mango pudding was refreshing. - Lamb saag wala ($17.00) - all their entrees come with naan or rice; we went with the former. Naan is fresh. Good amount of lamb pieces and the saag was tasty. A slight bit of heat which was perfect for our friend. - Vegetable biryani ($11.00) - this came with a side of salad, raita and same sauce as what's used in the butter chicken. Vegetables (a touch sparse) included potato, cauliflower, peas and beans. Decent Indian eats but nothing wowed us at PIK. read more

Ok so this is the scoop. My friend and I go there all the time for take out or to eat in. Like at least twice a week. He is South Indian and I'm an Anglo-Canadian who has grown up on English style food. We both love it. Just tell them your spicy tolerance level...Sometimes we go for a samosa and chai just to enjoy the cosy atmosphere and hold hands. The restaurant is very clean and the service is fast and friendly. Muttar Paneer. Aloo Gobhi. I had to write it down first before I forgot it. There it is. That's what we just enjoyed. Why haven't we been here yet? F if I know, but we'll be back. So - the Muttar Paneer was my favorite of the night (oh ya, we also had veggie pakora to start (was just okay)). The Muttar Paneer was a cottage cheese and pea dish that was sooo so yummy on the rice with naan bread. Mmm. The Aloo was good too but we ordered it a bit too spicy. I'll get it again next time. This was my go to Indian restaurant in the north shore. The food is delicious and it was reasonably priced but they raised prices massively. Not only did they increase the prices of all their dishes but they also removed naan and rice from the curries. What was an affordable $15-17 curry including naan or rice is now $22-24. I'm sympathetic to rising food costs, but a nearly 50% increase in a year is a bit much. read more

This is the third time I've gone to pawans. Every time I've come here the food and service has been exceptional! Sadly I only get to try Pawans when I travel to Canada for vacation. This leaves me missing their Chicken Vindaloo, Rack of Lamb, and Mango Lassi. The Rack of lamb (Not Rack of Lamb Masala) is served sizzling hot. The meat is extremely tender and delicious on it's own. The dish is served with two side dipping sauces as well though. You get a green chutney and curry sauce to dip the meat if you choose. I like the meat on it's own, but having the option is nice. Also I have to mention their Mango Lassi. I am certain this drink is made from fresh mangos. The drink is slightly thick and cools down a hot mouth in case you like spicy food like me! read more

A very flavorful, traditional take on Indian cuisine. First of all the wide array of sauces when you order is fantastic and the different kinds of bread play with the sauces so well. The service though not professional, is very respectful and polite since the college aged kids of the owners seem to be.the waitstaff. It's just the best Indian food all the flavours are delicious! The butter chicken is the best!!

We ordered in because my mother wasn't feeling well. The food was fantastic. Medium spice is a little on the spicier side but still lovely. The spices are different too which is nice because the lamb saag had different layers than the chicken coconut yet the same level.of heat. The Naan was still fluffy even though it was delivery. The sauces for the pakoras......delicious. I used the mint sauce on my lamb saag. I don't know if that's what it was for or whether it was for the pakoras but it was great. I've had better raita but it could be a regional thing. The portions are generous so don't be put off by the price. Go for it!!! read more

I stopped in for dinner with a couple coworkers visiting from India on the recommendation from our cab driver. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but we thought maybe it was just a bit too early for authentic Indian food. The reality was the restaurant was empty because the food was terrible. The appetizers tasted like they were bought in a grocery store freezer section and cooked in a microwave. We tried several different appetizers hoping it was just a fluke, but ultimately closed out our bill and walked to a restaurant across the direct. The cab driver must have been a friend. read more

I recently visited Pawans Indian Kitchen in North Vancouver, as I was in the area and craving butter chicken. They also offered a lunch special until 3:00pm for approx. $11 which I couldn't pass up. The lunch specials are either non-veg or veg. I chose the non-veg option as it came with butter chicken, tandoori chicken, rice and naan. It also came with a few other items which I didn't really care for. The tandoori chicken I found to lack flavor/just tasted like the cilantro topping which they put on top of the chicken. The butter chicken had a good flavour but I've had way better in Surrey. Overall, I would definitely visit again for the lunch special as it's a great value for what you get, but my suggestion is to visit Surrey if you're craving butter chicken. read more

Got take out from here a couple of days back. The man at the desk was really friendly and when I came in from the rain he offered me a seat and water while I waited. The Saag Chicken was absolutely outstanding. The gravy itself was really flavorful and not just a dump of cream, it had a harmonic balance of flavors that perfectly complimented the extremely tender and juicy chicken which was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. The Mix Veg and the Dal Club Special were pretty good; nothing to write home about though. The Tandoori roti and naan were both perfect. Huge portions, affordable prices and very friendly service. I'd definitely recommend this place and also go back here the next time I'm in town. p.s. There was a hard, dark brown plastic ball, about the size and shape of a peppercorn in my dal and luckily I realized that something was off before I chewed down hard on it.
