My kids have been going to Swanson's for a while and up until this month they've been fine. That all changed this month when we get a bill for about $700 with the major item listed as 'Balance Forward', a late charge and a note saying we were 90 days past due. This was the first bill we'd gotten from them since I think the kids last checkup. Normally you wait for the insurance dance and eventually you get a bill, pay it and you're done. We called them and explained this was the first bill we've gotten and ask about what the unlabeled portion was. Once we got the info it all seemed normal and they waved the $5.16 late fee. After that we scheduled our bank to send a check so everything would be taken care of within 30 days of getting our bill. I guess that's not good enough for Swanson's billing dept. Since then they have hounded us through calls and texts, threatening to send us to collections. Again, this month is the FIRST time we were made aware of a bill. If you make a mistake and don't send a customer a bill, they're not 90 days past due. We need to know what you want us to pay. I guess Swanson assumes we all love to stop by our kids dentist every month to double check if we owe them anything? Basically we have no issue paying our bill but they messed up by not sending a bill on time and now we're going to a new dentist so we don't have to deal with Swansons terrible billing dept. Swanson, fix your stuff. This is unacceptable and is going to lose you customers. I took my son there when he was a toddler for a check up and to get him used to going to the dentist. Dr Swanson seemed rushed when he came in and barely talked to us or my son to put him at ease. When my son got scared Dr Swanson put him in a headlock and had the assistant pin him down. He then told me this is why he doesn't allow parents to go in the back with their children. We could hear other kids screaming in the other room. I was super upset but thought maybe this was some weird isolated incident. I found out he has done this to many other children as well. He traumatized my child and it took years after that to get him comfortable at the dentist. De Swanson should not be practicing medicine. Run away from ANY Dr or Dentist that won't allow you to be with your child. They don't want you there because they don't want you to see what they are doing. I wouldn't bring a dead slug to that man. Yes, this has happened to other children I know as well. This is the whole reason we never went back. read more

All three of my boys including my youngest with Down Syndrome have gone to Swanson Pediatric Dental for over a decade. The staff and Dr. Swanson are always very friendly, and my boys were always comfortable. Even when some cavities needed treating, and a tooth needed to be pulled, everything was handled well, professionally and without any issues or concerns at all. None are wallflowers and the oldest two very protective of the youngest, so I can firmly say - Swanson is highly recommended by both me as a parent and by my three boys who started as toddlers and have continued with Swanson up through their teen years. From the great shades, headphones and movies to distract, small talk with the adults and the coin machine treats - they enjoy it all! read more

Both my sons have been patients of Dr. Swanson since 2014. I have been given insurance estimates prior to appointments and have received reminder calls before visits. The rooms are all themed for the kids, and each has a TV mounted on the ceiling. All of our experiences, whether routine care or fillings have gone well! The staff does an outstanding job of taking time to discuss treatment options, but also educates the patient/parents on cavity prevention. I would highly recommend this office to any family looking for a Pediatric dentist. read more

We never have to wait past our appointment time and have always been pleased with the treatment received. I highly recommend Dr Swanson and his team. The dental team and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. My children were very comfortable and did very well during our visits. The office is comfortable for adults and the children get watch a ceiling mounted TV while getting their treatments. The individual rooms are fun, bright and cheery. Since our first visit I have noticed an increase in dental hygiene care from both of my children ages 6 and 9. They haven't always cared for their teeth as much as they should. We all know how that goes I'm sure. Anyway, I feel that they have been properly informed how to care for their teeth and the importance it plays for them. I can't recommend them enough. read more

After several bad (and expensive) visits to Dr Swanson I ran from pediatric dentist! His office staff seemed to always make a clerical errors each visit (demanding money when I paid, over booking and booking in another child's name). This dentist does not care about involving parents in the process of treatment, parents are not allowed back during procedures, which always made me wonder. Don't go to this dentist! read more

I've been bringing my kids here for 19 years. Dr. Swanson is the best! He always is kind, personable and great with all my kids who range from 1 year to 20. All my kids started seeing him at 1 year on up to their teens. Their staff is all super sweet ladies, always accommodating as I schedule several kids at the same time and I have twins so they've always been great to have them next to each other so I can sit with each of them if needed. I made a new patient appointment with this dental office for my twin girls. It was made weeks in advance. They explained that it was their policy that you had to verify your appointment either by answering their call to confirm or calling back. Otherwise they would cancel the appointment. That was fine. The appointment was scheduled for 1:45 check in Wednesday. We don't currently have a car so I would have to arrange to take the bus( Which comes every hour) then walk half an hour to get there. Once again, that was fine. I pulled my girls from school early and we headed on our way. I got there on time and so we go to the front door and, it's locked. With a sign reading " Closed due to unforeseen illness" I was incredibly angry. I completely understand that things happen that are out of the control of people. I mean I have kids, you live your life like that every day with them. But the simple fact that they couldn't even be bothered to call and cancel the appointment was completely unacceptable. It was also completely unprofessional. That is what my rating is based on. It would have taken maybe a couple of hours to alert people that the office was closed. But it would have saved so much trouble for people like our family. So honestly I will never contact them again. They obviously expect you to confirm your appointment out of respect for their dentists. Yet have zero respect for their customers in the same regard. read more

I have to say when our family moved to Bellingham, my children were seen routinely by this dentist. After moving for a year, them building a new place off Bakerview, only to return to a disappointment. Not only did the front office staff not know what they were doing, but then to be told that I was not able to see my child after being told he was having some non descriptive "behavior" and this would require another assistant at the cost of $60.00 to help my son with this so called behavior. In my opinion this dentist and office staff are incompetent and obviously don't specialize in any pediatric care as it is clear that the money is a priority! My recommendation: don't even go there!! read more

I brought my 2-year-old to this dentist because he had some decay due to deformities in his teeth when they came in which left him with no enamel in those areas. Dr. Swason told me that the only option was to pull his 2 front teeth or put steel crown in to cover his teeth. He said we could try holding him down and removing as much decay as possible with a steel brush. I left and never came back. I went to another dentist that was able to place filings in many of the deformed areas and put porcelain crowns on his front teeth. My son now has a beautiful smile. I would never recommend this dentist. read more

When I asked if this practice was accepting new patients, rhe first question was who is your insurance provider. Not what kind of care does your child need. I was encouraged to not schedule my daughter here since she has state insurance. Despite me expressing my concern that her current dentist was not providing competent care. They have a policy of not working with state insurance after age 7, my child is barely 6. They don't refer out. From my limited knowledge of dental practices this is a money focused establishment, not a care focused practice. And they don't want to help kids, especially those in need of care. read more

The staff was friendly with my children, but when quoted for services I was told they were "underestimating" the cost. Who does that? I paid nearly $200 more for my daughter's care then I was originally quoted. read more
