My son has been taking writing class from Mr. You since he was in 4th grade. My son's writing has improved a lot. His grade has jumped up significantly and is maintaining an A in middle school and got into English honor in high school. Mr. You's class is very different then other writing classes. He would customize his lessons to your kids English level, seeing and helping your weaknesses. His classes usually include writing, grammar, vocabulary, and learning how to research. He also teaches different levels such as elementary writing all the way to college levels. I usually have my son take his summer courses to work ahead and prepare him for his next school year. Year after year Mr. You's classes prepares my son to do well. By following his program my son has built a good foundation for his future English courses. Many people seem to have a good experience so we decided to give it try. But here is our personal experience. You have to pay up front ($1000) with no refunds months in advance of your class starting and that's only if you get in because there is a long "wait list". Your child is in a virtual class with about 2-4 other students but they are all at different skill levels. The teacher is also difficult to understand as English is clearly not her first language. There isn't much communication from the office (which is really just the Director). Pros: They have good templates you fill out each week to build the story as well as grammar tests- this part is very organized. You will need to be somewhat tech savvy. Cons: Not sure what end result was. They do the grammar tests but that's it, they didn't really learn they just takes the quick tests and fill out the templates. Could have done this through workbooks with a private tutor for much less. It was not worth it for us as my child did not learn much. read more

During the pandemic my friend introduced me to SWC. I was really impressed with their curriculum. My kids were not the best writers but SWC's structure and strategies helped them not only on their writing skills but also grammar and vocabulary enhancement. Writing is always the most difficult subject for many kids. It is even more difficult to find a good writing course for kids around the area. SWC is the best one I can find for my two children. As an educator myself, I am not easily pleased but I was completely impressed by SWC's curriculums when it was first presented to me. It was created and implemented by the owner Mr. You who is also an educator himself. On top of the outstanding curriculums, the way they carry the deliver the lessons are fun, accepting and loved by kids. Most kids I know are always looking forward to their weekly writing course and they would do their own homework assignments without parents asking. I also would like to address the concerns of the other reviewer as I read. First of all, I don't think it is relevant to complain about prices. No one is forced and obligated to pay for anything if they don't want to, and it is really up to the individual to decide if it is a fair amount for the type of service one wants to get. If you don't like the price, you don't need to pay and join the writing course. If they are unhappy with the price, they may also write their own curriculum and educate on their own behalf. Second, as far as the waiting list, there are many factors which will affect how soon you will be able to be accepted into the course. There are times people form their own class or gather as a group to be part of a course. Sometimes people may attend the orientation early but never register nor respond regarding to their enrollment. I am sure it is not a simple first come first serve type of thing. Good writing courses and enrichment classes are hard to find, not to mention the ones where you child will be attending happily without hesitation. I highly recommend SWC academy. read more

My daughter has always read 2-3 levels above her grade level. She's articulate, creative, and loves school, but there was an opportunity to improve her writing skills. She saw writing as a chore... Hi I'm Jedi SWC Academy has been a great experience for me there. I had a lot of fun learning how to completely write a summary. Mr. You was a really good teacher for me because he knew how to push me and make me a better writer. He helped me build off of what I already learned summary-wise. I also learned a lot from the vocabulary tests he has given me. But one thing I want to suggest is that when given the vocabulary word, let us review and study the multiple choice words that are given to us on the test. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. You and other awesome teachers at SWC. I did not hold a teaching position, but I sat in front of the reception desk and overheard their discussions and lectures all the time. Let me tell you this - they are very dedicated people. Their small classrooms create a friendly environment for the students and I've seen children who came in on their 1st session make friends immediately. I've also seen teachers spend extra time communicating to parents about students' progress and things they need more work on. Standing by the front desk, I got to observe the kids actually being excited to come here and learn... it was kind of surprising! My youngest just finished her first writing course with SWC and all I can say that is that it was worth the wait!! We wait about 7 months before we were able to join, but if you're looking for a writing program with staff who genuinely care, this is the place! I've never met anyone like Mr. You and his staff that work at these types of academies who take the time to focus on each and every one of their students. SWC is an amazing tutoring center. My kid enrolls in their summer debate program and I see a huge improvement in both of my kids. My son was very shy at first and after finishing the summer program he is super talkative and knows how to explain things much better. I love the fact that SWC Academy also put kids in front of the camera and ask them to do research and speak in front of the camera. I was very impressed to see what my kids had learned through the class. Mr.You the principle is an amazing teacher who likes to have fun, but at the same time the kids knows to work hard and finish what he wants done. He is a very good teacher. My 4th grade son has benefitted from the leadership program and the writing program at SWC in more ways than just in school. The summer leadership program cultivated his presentation, research and debate skills but more importantly, gave him the tools and resources to be a successful negotiator that supports his perspective with solid facts. It also helped him understand that not every debate will be won and it's not about winning rather articulating his viewpoint. This skill will take him far in the global workplace in the future. The SWC academy is great for students trying to improve their SAT skills. Doing weekly practices really helped me improve my skills since this was my first time taking a class for SAT. Mr. You always made classes very fun and enjoyable as well. The reason I gave it four stars was because of Covid-19. We had to move our classes to house party calls and although I was still able to learn and improve, I feel like it would've been better if we were able to have class in person and not through a screen. But the situation we were in was not SWC's fault and it was very nice that instead of canceling classes, we still had them even though it had to be through a screen. read more

After carefully searching for a writing program for my child, I selected and sent my older one here at SWC Academy five years ago. What was so fascinating about this place was, they encouraged and motivated my child to WANT TO READ AND WRITE on his own. He was not a fan of reading or writing in the beginning; however, by plugging the technologies that they assembled along with the writing courses, my child was motivated to move to the next level to complete his assignments/projects. Through SWC, my child built a strong foundation in early years and he continues to surpass in his other AP classes. With no doubt, I am now on the waiting list to enroll my 2nd child. As far as their fee and cost, it is very reasonable. I was not able to locate such price or services in the area, especially coming from an accredited credentialed teachers. I am an employee here, and I love it. I love working with these kids. It is a great work environment for the teachers: the class sizes are tiny (no more than 6 students per class), the parents are invested in their children, and the kids all show, in their own way, an interest in learning. It's basically a teacher's dream come true, to teach in these conditions. We really get a chance to bond with our students, and cater to each one individually. I also really like that the entire school feels like a community. Most of these kids know each other, and even if they don't, the class size allows them to get close-knit, and much of the work they do in class helps foster an "online" community that they can then take home with them and be supported in that way. Honestly, aside from the fact that the curriculum is enviably advanced, I would have loved to be a part of a program like this when I was a child. read more

SWC is not your traditional writing class. I put my son with SWC in 4th G because he had trouble starting with his writing homework . After training by the SWC coaches for just 1 course , he no longer asked me for help. Not only did he strengthen on his writing skills, he learned how to search materials on internet, doing presentations with slide shows; showed great confidence when doing public speaking... etc . All these skills he learned from SWC will carry him through middle school, high school, college and work field. He has already impressed his peers and teachers with his oral presentations in 5th G ; a 16 pages book report and his "Ted Talk " presentation in 6th G .More importantly, he did all these by himself ! After seeing great result with my son from the SWC learning, I put my younger one in as soon as she turned 3rd G with Mr. You's leadership/ debate summer program. She started as this shy unwilling to participate little girl , who was upset with me for putting her into another class . After just 1 day with Mr. You , she came home saying that Mr. You is so funny and it was so much fun learning at SWC. And just after 3 days into the course; I can already see the difference in her .She is more confident, more sure of herself; even her summer program teacher commented she participated a lot in class now ! I am amazed how Mr. You transformed her 180 degrees better in such a short time. My son has finished one part of the Expository Writing Course. Investing my money into the writing program was definitely worth it! He always gets commended by the teacher for the words he uses and the format he uses in his writing. The staff and instructors at SWC are very passionate about kids and provides exceptional attention to support the necessities of the students. They teach small concepts one at a time and provide progress reports after class for parents to see what the kids were learning about and how well they did in class. My son and his classmates use vocabulary words that are at the level of middle to high school students. At the end of the session, they assess the students to see if the acquire the necessary skills that were taught in the lessons. My son started this class when he was in the middle of 3rd grade. Both my son and I like how the academy incorporates the use of technology into the writing class. Unlike traditional writing assignments, students are able to choose their own topic of interest to complete their writing assignment. Can I register or enroll my kid? Nope. Nothing is available now. Can we know what's coming up or available in the future? Nope. SWC has no idea what's available. They will let you know later if you fill out the "waiting list" first. They are just telling you that SWC will contact and inform you when there is class forming. OMG, what an institute! The next issue is the available new forming schedule probably always "time conflict" with your existing activity schedules, since you will not know when their SWC schedule will come up. If you are "lucky" enough having available schedule to match with their new forming class, then you are going to facing tuition issue unless you never aware of their invoicing in detail. What? They told me their tuition is about $210 per month plus $40 registration and having promotion rate at $187 per month now. Wow, how nice! So, we are going to pay $187 x 6 months plus registration $40 for one 24-weekly-classes (approximately 6 months) program. Nope. Absolutely not. The total invoice is stretching to about 7 monthly payment. Why? Be very super careful about their payment plan as billed by 3-5 weeks cycle for $187. (This is absolutely not what average person's mind of thinking $187 per month for an average 4-weeks month.) What that means? Basically, they are going to invoice you at $187 monthly no matter it is a 3-weekly-classes, 4-weekly-classes, or 5-weekly-classes (hardly) at that month. Am I confusing you now? Don't be. Let's try to apply a 24-weekly-classes program from Aug 18 ~ Mar 2 as an example. It is running eight months long from August 18 - March 2 due to many holidays. (Please reference their web calendar for details) That means you are not only paying $187 for the first 2-weekly-classes month in Aug, but also going to see the full price invoice of $187 for 3-weekly-classes month in both Dec and Jan and $124.66 for 2-weekly-classes month in Nov. Of cause, they are going to bill you the last class in March 2nd as well. Therefore, the total 24-weekly- classes program invoice will be $1285.xx + $40 registration fee. It is totally a "smart" Korean business man attitude and calculation to over charge you without addressing the grand total in the front. (They are intentionally not telling you what the total for one 24-weekly-classes program is.) Of cause, I canceled and withdrawal my kid from the program. read more
