3,000 miles from home, on an extended road trip, and the ignition lock on my Volvo S60 breaks, rendering it undriveable. A new ignition switch that works with the keys you already have means you have to get the replacement part from a dealer, but I had no interest in paying a dealer price for the installation. My local friends agreed and recommended Swedeworks, which was a bit of a hike from where I was staying. But - they were right. They got the proper part, got it in quickly and at a price wayyyy below what tbe dealer quoted, and took good care of me and the car. I demand a lot out of my vehicles I'm in them about 10 hours a day in and out of the city . Therefore I've been to multiple Volvo certified mechanics this one is my favorite I literally drove an hour and 12 minutes away from my home I have no complaints straightforward unpretentious mechanics! They were able to break things down into layman's terms tell me why one of issue is as important as another issue also prioritize you get what you pay for. Pros: loaner vehicle available if you plan ahead, hours on weekends and past 5 pm and a rewards card. After receiving a highly questionable safety inspection from a Philly mechanic where we were told all kinds of things needed to be replaced on our relatively low-mileage vehicle (with a VERY expensive quote to go with it), we decided to go to Swedeworks to verify those claims. We have always had good experiences with Volvo specialists, and this experience was better than we ever could have hoped. They sold us on nothing more than what was needed to roll away safe and sound, and they ended up finding a very important but cheap to fix problem that the other mechanics missed. While this was a trek for us from downtown Philly, we will happily do it in order to work with such pleasant and trustworthy people. This is the only place we would take our Volvos. The guys who run this shop know these cars inside and out. They also know when something can be fixed effectively and economically, rather than just outright replaced as you'd be pushed to do at a dealership. I never feel as though I'm getting up-sold something at Swedeworks -- I listen to their advice and trust their suggestions. They've often been able to provide me a free loaner, one of their cool older and well-maintained V70s, to borrow while they're working on my car. Very convenient. Volvos have a reputation of costing a fortune to maintain, and that can be true -- IF you don't have a high quality independent specialist like Swedeworks. Services here cost a fraction of what you'd pay at a dealership, and frankly the outcomes are better than what I've gotten at any of the local dealers (and I've tried them all). These guys know their stuff. There are many places closer, but I'll happily drive an hour in the opposite direction of my normal route to get to Swedeworks instead. I used to have a well-loved S40 that I ultimately let go because it was getting too expense to maintain at the dealer as it grew older. But now that I've found Swedeworks, my outlook on my aging C30 has completely changed -- I now intend to hold on to this car for several more years, knowing that I finally have a place that can keep it running in shape without bleeding my wallet dry. Our V60 has passed out of warranty now too, and it will be getting every future service at Swedeworks. I can be a picky customer, so believe me when I say that they've earned my repeat and faithful business. read more

I can't recommend these guys highly enough. Have had Volvos for years and they are honest and always looking to save your money versus dealership service departments. A dealership told me I needed new headlights for $1300, and these guys did something to clear the issue up for $130. That's right- 90% less. Several other instances where they could have recommended more costly work but they fixed the issue for a lot less. They have loaners as well. It's a 30 minute drive for me one way but I gladly do it because I know I am getting straight talk and the right work done. read more

I brought my Volvo S60 turbo in as I couldn't find anyone who knew what was wrong with it, Steve and Eric assured me that they specialized in Volvos and would get the issue resolved.They delivered 100% on their promise. Swedeworks Auto is a great independent repair shop and find for Volvo owners. Steve and Eric welcomed me as a new customer and Volvo enthusiast. I have been to other independent shops, but found the right guys now. I have a 2001 V70 T5 with over 200K miles, and a 2007 S60R with 100K miles and I am serious about taking good care of them and driving them for a long time. Steve and Eric also care a great deal about my cars and that is why they will continue to get my business. They have done some technical work on both cars including replacing a turbo, replacing front suspension, timing belts, etc. and both cars are running fantastic. After my first experience with Swedesworks Volvo I will never go back to a volvo dealership for repairs- I will only go to Swedesworks Volvo. Swedeworks was honest, trustworthy, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I've had my volvo s40 since 2010 and have always taken it to the dealership for repairs/maintenance. My car has over 100k miles and my air conditioning stopped working. I took it to the dealership that I have been going to for years and they told me I needed to replace my compressor that would cost around $1200. I called Swedeworks for a second opinion. I spoke with Eric and he was extremely knowledgeable and understood my issue just by describing it over the phone. He was able to fix the issue for under $200 and there were no parts needed. My air conditioner has been working great ever since. Don't trust the dealerships!! read more

The guys at Swedeworks were great. Our car started having issues on a Saturday at 3 PM. By 3 PM all the other shops around told us that they could not get to the car till Monday or Tuesday and they had no loaner car. None of the rental places were open past 1 PM either. Called these guys, had us bring the car over right away. Looked at it immediately. Said they did not have a loaner till Monday, but were able to get the car fixed enough that we could drive it home. Called us Monday as soon as they had the loaner. Were able to do all the work by Tuesday afternoon at a fair price. They did not try to up sell and walked me through everything they did to the car. I went on their website to inquire about replacing the odometer gear for my 1993 Volvo 850 Steve emailed me back he said he wanted 300 that also includes replacing all bulbs because the cluster has to come out to replace the gear. I do not know what the hourly rate for labor is but I did shop around I did ask burdumy Volvo the part was 55 and the labor was 236 so I am guessing it is a little cheaper to do the job I do have a Mitchell labor guide my guide book does not say how many hours for that job.I do live in Philadelphia this place is far from me but I have to get my car inspected by March and possibly might have to do this repair even though I don't care about getting the odometer fixed I could pull the mileage from the obd1 computer and read it from there the car will not pass state inspection without a working odometer. but I will keep this place in mind read more

Swedeworks Automotive is where I will be taking my car moving forward. I had an oil change go bad from another garage (car leaks oil after my oil change, no issues before the dreaded change). Had to get new tires and the second garage (who replaced my tires) said they fixed the oil leak. Turns out that was not true. Swedeworks fixed my oil leak and did not break my piggy bank. As a longtime Volvo driver who has had many high-mileage Volvos, I was very happy to find this shop after I recently moved to the area. Having been a longtime customer at Frank's Volvo in Wharton, NJ for many years before moving, I knew what I was looking for in a Volvo specialist, and I found it. Steve and Eric are very professional, and made it clear to me that they really know Volvos. They have a common sense approach and are not just trying to push unnecessary parts and labor. This shop will care about your car as well as your budget. I saw them working on new and old Volvos alike. I tested the shop out with AC work, and Eric did more thorough work than say Pep Boys would do, for less money. For a 1998 S70 T5 with 230,000 miles, they gave me a few reasonable recommendations, in order of priority, with very reasonable prices. When I go to chains like Pep Boys and Midas, they always tell me I need new brakes and rotors, but when I take the same brakes and rotors to a Volvo Specialist (both Frank's and Swedeworks), they say it's fine and show me the measurements to prove it; which matches up to how it drives. They even have a loner car so I didn't have to wait around on a Saturday morning. I will be back for my car's maintenance. Your Volvo is in good hands here. read more
