From start to finish, Swedish Medical Center was as good as it gets when it came to my hip replacement surgery, from pre-check in to admittance to check out. All the doctors, nurses and therapists who work here are total professionals, so basically I just kicked back and enjoyed the ride. I was actually worried for no reason, although I admit I had some anxiety on surgery day. I was first on the schedule, but before I knew it I was in the recovery room, and then in my regular room watching baseball and the People's Court while recuperating nicely in my very comfortable bed. Thank God I had insurance. The whole process was seamless, and my share of the entire procedural costs was extremely reasonable, and I have no problems going here again or recommending them to anyone who needs hip replacement surgery or any other serious medical need. They really do care, and I saw nothing but patient-centered concern at every level. Even the food was delicious, and no, it's not served on a boot-camp style aluminum tray. They have their own restaurant, and you get to order off a real menu like you were eating out. I won't hesitate to go to Swedish again, and I know another surgery is coming up. The billing department is also very understandable and pleasant to deal with, which scores big points in my book when I happen to be down for the moment. But not forever! read more

Arrived to the ER Monday the 13th of Sept. was given a room with whoever came in to set me up for my nurse. Never saw a nurse the whole time I was there. A sheet was put on the bed and she left. I had to go thru cupboards to find a pillow. After awhile I asked for a warm blanket as I was getting cold, a blanket came very cold. Had a cat scan came back to room Dr. assistances came in, nice guy but was surprised as he was no help at all. He wouldn't prescribe a muscle relaxer as I had fallen and apparently he called it a muscular problem in the neck. The worse, upon arrival was my blood pressure 189/67. It was never checked again and they sent me home with these numbers...WHAT!!! Most of the time several hung out at there desks talking and laughing with no one every coming to see how i was doing!!! I came in with an injury and they had the best doctors available and nurses and Physical therapists who knew how to treat not only my injuries, but my very anxious mental state because of it. In my time of need, the Swedish Ballard Emergency Department stepped up. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon for severe acute low back pain related to a previous injury and they were able to see me right away. The nurses and doctor (Seleina, Ben, and Dr Weaver) that treated me were extremely kind and genuinely cared about me and my well being. Although I hope I never have to go back to the ER, if I did have to, I would return to this one! read more

Went to ER for foot. Xray showed no broken bones but lab report indicates heel spur. Doctor never mentioned it. Prescribed Kefllex, I told them I have a sever reaction to Reflex. Gave me two any way. Prescribed two drugs to deal with with nausea and diarrhea but pharmacy was closed. HOW CAN AN EMERGENCY ROOM PHARMACY BE CLOSED?! It was Sunday night so no other pharmacies were open. So I have Keflex in my system but can't get the two drugs to stop the side effects. That is just negligent. And to not communicate about the bone spur. Total incompetence. read more

This is a review of their billing dept (which I believe is located at First Hill but want to list this review here too considering this is where I had my baby). Such a heartless billing department. Between their billing procedures and insurance companies paying (or not paying) claims months after the fact you are left not having any idea how much you will truly owe - we were getting getting bills for my daughters birth 9 months after the fact. The billing department is heartless and has no compassion for your situation and even threatens collection agents on you. read more

Over the last week, my wife and I have been lied to, subjected to fraudulent collection and billing practices and been talked to as if we are con artists or criminals. Over the course of multiple calls about what Swedish insisted was an unpaid and overdue bill, we confirmed repeatedly that they had improperly billed it to an outdated insurance and never attempted to bill to the correct insurance. We even had one customer service rep blatantly lie and say that they had resubmitted. How do I know it's a lie...because in a subsequent call with another customer service rep and a supervisor, they confirmed that no rebuilding had been attempted. After around a half dozen or more calls, we were told that bill had been cleared and all was in order. We also had another customer service agent interrogate us, acting as if we hadn't really tied to pay the bill This morning, I received a call at 8am from a COLLECTIONS company seeking payment for the bill that Swedish assures me was zeroed out. The collections person insisted that we had not taken care of it and treated me like a lying thief. Swedish should fire the company they out source their customer service to because I nor my wife have ever been treated so poorly. Shame on you Swedish. read more

I had a 20 minute ultrasound for some abdominal pains I was having. I have full insurance and made an appointment. They charged me $1400.00 dollars for a standard ultrasound that should cost between $99 to $300 dollars. Then mailed me another $100 dollar bill. I called and the guy on the phone said it was for a "physician fee". I told him that I didn't see a physician and then he switched his story and said it was a "room fee". Then I got ANOTHER bill for an additional $200 dollars for some guy to read my ultrasound. All in all my 20 minute ultrasound cost $1700 that should have cost $200. They should be ashamed of themselves for gouging customers like this. It's companies like this that are bankrupting America. read more

Horrible experience. The male nurse wouldn't listen to me whenever I told him he was hurting me. He kept saying it was "just pressure" even when i told him it felt like he was about to pop my ear drum. Very unprofessional, HORRIBLE patient care. He was absolutely terrible. There was three times where it felt like he was stabbing at my ear drum. It got to a point where I started crying and only then is when he brought back the doctor. I can't remember his name but he was about 5 foot 6 in, he was Asian, and had a husky stature. DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH YOU. He will NOT listen to you if you're telling him he is hurting you. I've never had such a horrible experience with a nurse ever before this. read more

Today I quit the Swedish Community Health Clinic. Infact I walked out of my appointment. I have been here at least 9 times. Every time I would schedule to come back my gut feeling was: this does not seem right... I continued to return even though I was only seen by my designated MD twice. So after seeing a handful of doctors here the answers and advise I got was conflicting and in the end never addressed my personal health concerns. The one star goes to the friendly nurses. Every time I'm in an emergency room it's bad. A lifetime ago I was getting some clay pot and dirt scraped out of a 5 inch gouge in my skull without Novocaine, when a wave of optimism washed over me. I realized that the pot that broke my nose and cut my skull to the bone could have blinded me if it were just a little to the right or left. As I am already a card carrying Cycloptic American, I can ill afford to loose my other eye. Every Optometrist I've ever had, reminds me that I've lost my "insurance eye". So in epiphany, I announce "I sure am lucky that didn't hit me in my other eye." To which my ex-girlfriend responded by shoving the doctor off me, grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me while yelling, "YOU'RE NOT LUCKY! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET IT?" Chuckles could be heard from the waiting room, as I realized that she might actually have something there? Regardless, on a follow up visit, my doctor told me that the attending physician did a fantastic job. So if you're close by when something smacks you in the face run on over... they do good work! UPDATE: I fell off a ladder two weeks ago, and they have really fixed up the place! The staff was awesome and I actually felt like they cared! It was hands down the easiest emergency room visit I have ever made! Though, just incase I get hurt again... and if anyone from Swedish is listening out there... there's always room for improvement. read more

Can be fine for relatively minor issues like needing a few sutures or a possible broken bone. Don't come here for anything serious. Some of the staff are great but you may get a float nurse who is slow, barely competent & full of attitude if questioned on anything she does. The care I've had at this ER has been fine in the past, but I'm not taking the chance on getting a trainee / idiot with more attitude than experience again. If I need to go the ER I want any nurse assigned to me to be a nurse who ACTUALLY WORKS IN THE ER. As for the MD, he didn't seem to know what to do. Came back to the room, told me he had been researching what the treatment should be & got advice from a colleague. Honestly. Felt like amateur hour - will never take a chance on this hospital again. Went in for my screening colonoscopy. Bad experience. There are a lot of places to choose from, I would recommend elsewhere. Turns out I vomited under anesthesia, my airway wasn't protected so I aspirated and burned my vocal cords. They seemed really uninterested in this complication. I work in veterinary medicine and know the care we would have given to a dog or cat. Too bad their standards aren't the same! Maybe it was because I was the last to be sent out of the factory before lunch. Sent home and told if I was short of breath to go to emergency. Asked if they should take chest films to check if I had aspirated much. Told no. Asked if I should go home on any medications. Told no. Two days later chest radiographs show aspiration pneumonia and started on antibiotics. Able to talk about 75% of full voice. Again, lots of places perform this procedure, I would recommend going somewhere where they care. It isn't here. read more

So when I signed up for healthcare I was assigned a doctor here. It's been a while since I needed to see a doctor, but I called to schedule an appointment today. The women I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude. I forgot to ask her name, but she has a deep raspy voice. She kept rushing me through my questions and wasn't really listening to what I was asking her. Turns out the doctor isnt accepting new patients, and I was basically told to go elsewhere. I was trying to find out why I was assigned to her when she can't have me as a patient, and was told "I don't know" like seriously wtf lady!? When I told her I would find a new doctor she said "ok great bye" like wow....you need to work on your customer service skills. How embarrassing to have someone like that working for you. read more

I was there last week (2010) because I had an infection in my eye. They were really nice. Unfortunately they had to send me to an eye doctor because the doctor in the emergency room couldn't find out what was wrong. I found out later that the doctor that treated me in the emergency room called to the eye doctor to check if I was OK and to find out what was wrong with me :) If something happen to me I will go back there! read more

Billing is uncommunitive and just horrid. For the past couple days I have been trying to get in touch with LaTonya (Guessing on spelling), the Billing manage and its been phone tag. I want on record that your billing department's communication skills need to be clear and helpful to the patient. 2 bills of mine could have been taken care of very easily with a phone call. I had got no paper bills in the mail and I was under the impression that one of my bills was paid in full via my chart and not a third party billing company. One bill for the equipment and on bill for the Doctor(from a completely different company). Why wasn't this explained to me during my visit? read more

PLEASE do not visit this emergency room! Do not allow your family members or friends to go here. They are not competent. The few times my mother was admitted her, the attending emergency physician yelled at her (she was upset, but then she's very elderly and has dementia) and said "i'M LEAVING!" I kid you not! The nurses had to take over for him. What kind of an unprofessional outfit is this, anyway? The only thing I can say is that they are marginally better at this facility than the Cherry Hill hospital, but ... since CH s a nightmare ... that isn't saying much. read more

This is nothing but a big impersonal business. Our doctor ordered an unnecessary CT scan for our daughter. Records show that my daughter's medical records were altered by our doctor to "prove" that we gave our consent to the test. In fact: our consent was never asked for and we were made to feel that we had to go along with the CT scan. We have found out later that the pediatric protocol instructed the doctor to observe and not to CT, but this protocol was blatanly ignored. Our doctor was: Sarah Grace Sliva. Avoid her by all means. I have begged the hospital to make sure that they offer something in writing to parents in the future, so parents can be informed about the risk of CT to their children. Leukemia and brain cancer are some of the future risks for kids who receive a CT. Radiation dose is incredibly high: 100-1000 chest x-ray per scan. Of course this information was kept away from us, so we didn't refuse the scan. The hospital flatly refused to change their practice and inform patients about the risks. The reasons for this outragous practice: they have charged $3600 for the CT. If parents knew the risks: they would be much more cautious about agreeing to CT. This of course would be bad for business. Never, ever go to Swedish. The Office of the Inspector General audited this hospital and found them guilty of overcharging (fraud) Medicare in 2012. read more

Go to the ER and expect kindness or help, instead get a 15 minute run around while I am curled on the floor and puking in the trash can from pain. Finally get back to wait to be seen by a doctor, after the nurse told me what was wrong with me and was 100% correct. Wait another 20 minutes for the doctor to show up, told that I need to have test run (that insurance doesn't cover) only for the issue to resolve itself mid test. It would have been cheaper to fly first class, round trip to Canada and go to a hospital there- I am very lucky I didn't take an ambulance and took a Lyft/Uber instead. read more

My wife went here for an annual check up and Swedish Medical miscoded her bill. After a year, we are still getting bills for procedures that were never done. No one in the billing department will take any ownership of the problem. We are literally transferred from one person to the next until we end up at the first person. read more

The care that we received was very good: We were told it was not a busy night. However the aftermath was shockingly bad. IF you don't update your insurance information within 5 days, they take your hospital bill and scatter it to the ends of the earth. The bill is broken up into the various doctors and contractors that took part, and you have to call each and every one of them and separately tell them your insurance information. A couple weeks ago, I took care of the copay for the ER. I asked the operator EXPLICITELY. "Are there any other bills? Have we paid everything we need to pay?" "Yes that's correct." "OK. So the insurance information checks out. We're done?" "Yes." Two weeks later I get 2 more bills. Currently on hold again. Wasting valuable time sorting out their mess. Don't they want to be reimbursed? Can't these entities communicate with each other? Also their phone call tree is broken! If you navigate to billing, you'll never reach an operator. I know this because I called another number, and they said there was no call wait time. So I wasted 45 minutes before I figured this out. I told them it was broken two weeks ago: It is currently still broken. The only way to get to billing is to call the front desk and let them transfer you. Otherwise you'll never receive an answer. In summary: Good doctors, staggering stupid billing and administration. Edit: It is now mid October, and I am STILL getting mail from them. This is just surreal. I have called them at least 12 times. Edit: January now 5th 2017, now. Hoping this is the last time that I need to call them. read more

From when I pick someone up to when I leave the staff is very very helpful and kind. It is always clean, patients are always thanking them before they leave. They are always getting hugs from patient's who are super grateful for the exquisite care they are given. The staff does a great job. Recommend as a good hospital. read more

I have been to this hospital for a variety of reasons as it is where my surgeon's office is located. Parking can be tricky, but I have never parked in the parking garage. Dr. Punja was very friendly and so was the whole staff, I had a great experience. They greeted me immediately as soon as I walked in and were very helpful and hospitable. Even though I had a lot of tests to be done, they were very quick about it and precise. Don't go to the ER unless you have loads of money to burn and want poor service. I went to the ER for a very simple reason in April 2012. The entire visit from start to finish took less than 20 minutes. The bill...$803. No x-rays, no meds, no procedures were needed other than a simple numbing agent. Even with full health insurance coverage the bill is astronomical. I highly advise using a non-Swedish ER if you find yourself in need of help. read more

If you are having an anxiety attack and freaked out, DO NOT COME HERE! Went to ER, told them my chest was tight, arms tingling only to be told to wait in the waiting room and a nurse will call me. I was like "ummm I'm really not feeling well, my chest is tight!" Sal the admitting person said "yeah I know and a nurse will call on you!" I was soooo appalled I literally walked out and went to urgent care instead. Thank God I didn't die walking to my car and driving to an urgent care. Glad to see this place is rated so low. I usually go to the imaging center at Swedish Cherry Hill for my mammogram but I found out Ballard had one which is closer. My PCP referred me years ago and Swedish Breast Center made recommendations for annual mammogram (due to cysts). When I brought up my cyst at today's appointment they refused to do the screening and required me to get a referral from my PCP. I just never had this issue at Cherry Hill. The tech was very bubbly and friendly but when I choose to ask their radiologist if they could to a screening mammo and courtesy read (just like they do for me at Cherry Hill) she was clearly annoyed even though she offered this. In the end, no mammo so I will get the referral and go back though back to Cherry Hill. I just wished she didn't show her annoyance while I was there, tearful, in the room. read more

It used to be INSIDE the hospital in Ballard, now it is in the building next door. My son and I are members (customers?) they are great with scheduling, often getting us in on the same day. Dr. Johnson and Dr. Lee are both great, as is a couple other Doctors i forget the names of. we have belonged to this clinic for a couple of years now. they don't have x-rays, but they are super friendly and helpful for emergencies (metal splinter in my son's finger, flu and tetanus shots) and took a lipoma out last week with little fanfare. read more
