Jeffery gave me the worst hair cut and color. I would compare it to a five year old cutting their bangs with scissors. There was chunks taken out of the back like steps on one side, razored ends with a dull razor toward the front. The color was dull and brassy and uneven. I went from a beautiful light blonde to light brown. I never asked him to do this, he did this on his own. I went in for a touch up on my roots and a trim and he destroyed my healthy hair. When my hair was wet he tried to comb it with a comb, when I have thick wavy hair. The owner even questioned what the heck he was doing and told him to grab a wet brush. I find that strange when he has been cutting and coloring hair for 20 years. read more

The best experience I've had at a hair salon! My husband, Jake, and I made an appointment at 11:20am this morning and got in at 1:30pm. Jake was scheduled with Brooke and myself with Jeffrey. Jake's experience: "I liked that it was a very relaxing, chill vibe. Being small business owners ourselves, it was nice to feel that level of professionalism and genuity. The hair stylists are passionate and I felt as though they treat it like an art. They were very receptive to the style I was going for and I am happy with the way I look after the cut." My experience: I was pleased to walk down the stairs to a reception desk and be greeted by all of the stylists, even while they were working on another client. The salon itself is an open floor plan. Jeffrey walked right up and gave me a nice, firm handshake before leading me to his chair to consult. I'm a fairly simple cut, just looking to keep my length while adding some layers and volume. I did have a couple of photos to showcase what I was looking for, which Jeffrey appreciated. After the consultation, Jeffrey gave me a nice hair wash. While adding shampoo through my hair, he gave me a firm scalp massage that felt great since I had a headache from feeling under the weather. What I loved most about the hair cut was that Jeffrey took his time and cut my hair layer by layer to achieve the desired look. He also gave me a 25 minute blowout; it was awesome! We spent a little over an hour at the salon. Each cut was between $48-$54; well worth it for the memorable experience we had. Looking forward to booking again in the future! read more

I've been back in MN for six months and I still haven't found a job but I have found a salon and a stylist. This is a pretty big deal because I'm super picky about my hair and not everyone can cut short hair well. I also require a stylist that's patient with my pickiness and tolerant of the fact that my haircut never remains unaltered since I cut it myself all the time. I tried another salon first and wasn't sure I wanted to go back (partly because the stylist told me to stop cutting my own hair -- I don't like to be chastised and couldn't promise such a thing). Danielle at Sweeney Todd's came recommended from not one but two friends, and after my first cut with her I knew I would be returning. She gets my hair, she gets me, and her prices are beyond reasonable. The other staff are friendly too. But Sweeney Todd's is a bit on the edgy side. Works for me but may not be for everyone. Don't come here if you are scared of clients or stylists with lots of tattoos or if you only want to listen to Top 40s teenybopper music. It's also a small and kind of odd space, being in the basement of a building. Keep an eye out for the sign, it's easy to miss. Being on Lyndale, there are some cute shops nearby and it's also served by several bus lines. Unlike their namesake barbershop of literary, musical, theatre, and cinematic fame, I don't believe anyone at this salon murders their customers and bakes them into pies. read more

The other review for Sweeney Todds mentioned a bad haircut. I know the people at Sweeney Todds and if the client isn't happy, they'll make things right. So my hair stylist left me ... she moved to NYC. Although I love NYC and have a people I know and love there, that would be one expensive haircut :-). So I thought here is an opportunity to support a local business rather than go back to Juut where the memories of my old stylist are. (Can you see the tear rolling down my face ... it tastes like sadness) I called and got an appointment. Now I want to clarify this is not a review about the people but about the hair cut I got. The people at the salon were very nice and friendly. Salon experience ... no coffee, no tea, no water with cucumbers .. OK I am spoiled. But this explains how the cost is less than I am use to paying. The cut .... well ... hmmm... I usually like a little edge in my hairstyle but not too much that I can't look professional at the office. I sat and stated what I like .. that I didn't want too many layers since I am growing out my hair. I thought she was listening. But I am afraid that is not what happen. I have 2 descriptions of what I actually got .... reverse mullet ... conservative in the back ... party in the front ... or the Shelley Long look in the Brady Brunch movies. Yes it was bad. The layers were chunky and did flow throughout my hair and I have a cowlick on the side of my head that wasn't taken into consideration. The only good thing about the cut ... the bangs .... but she didn't do anything different than what my original stylist did. Needless to say I was extremely unhappy. (My manager even caught me crying at my desk about it .... I am sure I won't live that one down :-) ) Luckily Juut got me in for a emergency haircut. It is shorter but at least it flows and looks good. When it comes to hair you get what you pay for. read more

I stumbled upon this salon, after deciding that I wanted to get extensions. More or less I had a horrible hair show experience and needed experts to work on my hair stat. I saw great reviews online, and decided to have a consultation with a stylist, Danielle. She was great and really made me think about why I wanted them, talked about damage they could cause, price, etc. She seemed really down to to earth, and really wanted me to make sure I was ready. If you are looking for getting extensions or dreadlocks put in these guys are the place to go. I stayed with my stylist for a few months after I got my extensions taken out, but have not been back lately due to the fact I am not in Minneapolis for the summer and have found a stylist more locally that I really love. Also, their music selection is stellar, and the name is a hoot. Especially when people ask where you get your hair done, you can always expect a laugh. read more

Boy, am I glad I did! I was lucky to land Jess, who's consistently given me the best cuts and most fun color of my life. People who haven't seen me since before Jess' cut literally drop their jaws when they see me--in a GOOD way, duh. And not just the cuts, but the service at Sweeney's has also been consistently fabulous, and I've never been made to wait. Well, maybe like 10 minutes that one time, but, come on, we know it happens. After year's at a sports barbers in the suburbs and getting buzzcuts from my friends in the dorms, I moved to the lyn-lake area and was force to find a new hair option. I had no idea how adults in the real world found hairdressers, so I literally just started walking down Lyndale Avenue and stumbled in here. Like everyone else has said, the atmosphere is warm and friendly. They do take walk -ins, but if you plan on going on the weekends make an appointment. I've been in to see Jeffrey about four times now. This most recent time, I had no idea what I wanted, so I literally just told him "low maintenance, shorter than it is now, and good-looking" were my parameters. Tried forever to get an appointment here but it was always booked. Luckily I live across the street from it so I was able to get squeezed in. Its a cool unimposing salon with a warm feel, chic but welcoming. My appointment with Jes and she was GREAT. I never entirely know what to do with my hair but she had some great suggestions although the cut was a tiny bit shorter than I would have liked it still looked great. The big winner for me here is that I was very comfortable here. I tend to find getting my hair cut very awkward but that was not the case here. I'll definitely will be back. read more

Voila, they could! I wish them more business, but I liked not having to wait. My stylist was a rad person named Jess. She took my vague description and turned it into a cute haircut. She also put up with my nonstop almost one-sided conversation. I turn into a self-centered motormouth at salons. Jess didn't completely zone me out, which is going above and beyond my expectations. Love the atmosphere here, and Jeff is nothing short of amazing with blow-outs. My hair is not an easy task. It's very thick. It's very curly. It's pretty damn long. When round-brushing it, it is almost impossible not to use a flat-iron it to smooth certain parts out... but somehow Jeff is able to make it look gorgeous without touching a flat iron. It's smooth, beautiful, and not-fried. I'm able to wear the style for many days before having to wash, and it looks just as good on the last day as it did on the first. Also, my head is pretty sensitive, and I rarely wince in pain when he's doing my hair (this is rare). He knows his stuff. Go see him! read more

This was my third haircut with Jeff (the last being.... a decade ago? since before I moved to LA). I was in town and needed a haircut and I remembered how he had given me the best haircut and haircut experience I had ever had, so I looked him up and found him at Sweeney Todd's. I was diagnosed with Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia this last year and trying not to be depressed about permanent hair loss (and not knowing when the hair loss would stop), mostly resorting to hats to feel confident going out. I don't like to spend time styling my hair or feeling like I need to do much to feel presentable. From the moment of walking in I felt taken care of -- offered a beverage, great conversation, so much laughter (the best part), and Jeff knew right away what to do with my hair and I fully trusted his instincts. Sweeny Todd was available as soon as I called in, which was perfect for a spontaneous walk-in such as myself. They were very accommodating and hospitable. Sweeny's is an adorable salon located in a nice and convenient part of town. The environment inside is hip, clean, and very comfortable. Jes was my hairdresser, and she didn't just give me a haircut; I learned more about my hair from her, and was SO happy with the results. After a less-than-great cut at Fox's Den a few months ago, my hair felt revived from this visit! Jes is a wonderful person, and I had a great time with her. He has, on occasion, literally summoned beings from other dimensions to tame my extremely stubborn roots into submission. He has repaired everything I have ever done to my hair. My sister suggested Jess to me after being so thrilled with finding someone who could do wonders with her curly hair. I have been going now to her for the past 2 maybe 3 years with out needing to look anywhere else and the greatest part is that she layers my hair in such a manner that I can go 4-6 months before needing to go back and that's unheard of with a short hair cut. I started out happy because she actually listened to me when I stated what I wanted and now I'm so happy because even after a 6 month waiting period I don't have to tell her what I want. I went to Sweeney Todd's on a total whim. I typically go to the juut in uptown, but I have never been thrilled with the haircuts and they are SO expensive! I have seen Sweeney Todd's on lyndale many times on my way to the French Meadow, so I thought I would give it a shot! I loved the fact that they had online booking (super convenient) so I made a same day appointment for a full foil and haircut. When I first arrived I had the same reaction as another reviewer here "I think this place is too cool for me". After a while I noticed that the vibe was actually very laid back, and I saw people of all kinds come in for haircuts. My stylist Britt was awesome - she was very funny, and listened to exactly how I wanted my hair done! She cut my hair perfectly, which I NEVER say after a hair cut, and the color was exactly what I wanted! She was very friendly and funny and made me feel very comfortable I will definitely go back to Sweeney Todd's and see Britt again, the price was very reasonable and the staff was very welcoming and friendly! read more
