Our Christmas tradition for the last 5 years has been extra thick cut Delmonico steaks from their meat department.. a quick phone call a few days before to place the order & we're good to go! If I could give this a zero stars I would.... Came out of state for deer season and needed a processor for my deer... 1st off you automatically get charged for deluxe cut no matter what ! That's $40 more unless you debone your own deer. Second you don't get your horns back from the deer you take to them! This was my wife's 1st deer and now I don't have the rack!!! It was expensive and didn't get half the stuff you want and everything you don't! I got zero hamburger from my deer. So they rob Peter to pay Paul... so don't waste your time here. read more

Sweeney's has many great products and good service. I always look forward to my visits. Sometimes the lines are a little long, but, I'm trying not to be too impatient. So I just try to plan ahead, know what I want, go in get it and leave! But I also seem to pick the best cashiers, too. My first job was in a grocery store. The website says that their combo meat packs are "professionally freezer wrapped, labeled and fresh frozen". It was not freezer-wrapped. It was in the original store shelf styrofoam and cellophane packaging and was not frozen.. read more

To all shoppers here, please heed my advice: Make sure you check expiration date of EVERY grocery you buy BEFORE you pay, as they will accuse you of robbing the store for dollars and pennies. I currently live and shop around Tioga Terrace, and have shopped here quite a bit before for quick groceries. Rarely the counter person doesn't give receipts unless asked for. What a crucial mistake that was. I came to get a refund on a expired dairy product they sold, over 2 months beyond expired date. Now, if I came in with 2 expensive steaks or something, there will be reason for suspicion. However, I came in for expired product that were a total of dollars and pennies. Right from the get go, instead of a simple "I'm sorry for selling you the expired product". Only accusation/question I received was "did you eat it?" NO I didn't because I put it in a smoothie for my child to eat and threw away the whole thing because of YOUR EXPIRED PRODUCT. Only reason why I didn't throw the yogurt at the counter and shouted out was because this is a local area, and I will be looked at as the "typical *insert race,gender,age here* customer". I am all for small business, but if they sell expired products and ACCUSE ME for stealing them for chump change with not even decency for an apology, I will rather spend my money elsewhere (Aldi during the day, Weis is around the corner for night shopping ) What a disappointment. read more

I shop here weekly you can't beat their prices on meat, better than the big box stores. Great steaks and the best sausage around that they make in-house. They have sales every week on their steaks. Huge beer selection as well. They have remodeled and cleaned the place up a lot in the last year. read more

The good news is the big stores may wonder what happened. I occasionally shop at Sweeney's for an item or two needed immediately when I don't have time to drive to a bigger store. Items there tend to be priced higher than the competing larger stores, so it's never been a place I utilize for my weekly shopping runs. Since I'm not there frequently, I don't know how they staff the store. I went in for 1 item. A clerk was working in one of the aisles. She walked by me as I left my aisle and headed to the register. On the conveyor belt there was a bell to ding for service. I pressed it. When the clerk comes up behind me disgruntledly saying, "I'm coming, I'm coming. I saw you. No need to ring the bell. Sheesh!" How was I supposed to know she was also working the register? Or that she even knew I was headed to the register and not the other side of the store? I receive much friendlier service at the larger stores. I guess next time I'll drive a little further. I'm not going to over pay for items to get bad service to boot. read more

Wife and I stopped in early Sunday afternoon for a couple of steaks. Ask the old man in the butcher area for a beef tenderloin steak. He asked us three times if we'd pay $21.99/ pound. Said yes all 3 times. Gave us a look of disgust and acted like it was a huge inconvenience. I told him about 1.5 inches thick and between 1/2 to 3/4 pound. He brought out a tiny .28 of a pound steak that I think was sirloin, not tenderloin. The guy treated us like crap, the steak was mediocre and will never go back. It was our first AND last time we will stop there. I'd rather pay $25.99/pound at Wegmans and leave with my blood pressure normal. read more

Beware and take caution of Sweeney's Meat Dept. I bought chicken breast about 9-mo ago and opened it up the next day and it reeked like it was rotten. The sticker had a good til' date 3 days away. I didn't learn my lesson, this month I bought chicken again with good til' date days away, opened it up that night for dinner and again, reeked like it was bad. Threw it away and will remember NOT to purchase meat at this store. read more
