When I first arrived in Lompoc, I found a few places to grab dessert, but nothing really stood out--until I discovered Sweet Baking Co. The moment I walked in, I knew I had found my new favorite spot. While I'm living in this lovely little town, I can honestly say I'll be stopping by at least once a week! The desserts are incredible. Tiramisu cupcakes?! What?! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Every single thing I've tried has been delicious. The frosting is perfectly balanced--not overly sweet--and the fillings are rich, flavorful, and absolutely amazing. You can tell that every item is made with care and creativity. The flavor combinations are unique, thoughtful, and beautifully executed. And then there are the drinks. Oh. My. Goodness. The Ube Horchata is one of the best specialty drinks I've ever had. It tastes every bit as amazing as it looks! What makes this place even more special, though, is the family behind it. They are some of the kindest people you could hope to meet. I work at a local Title I Special Education preschool, and they generously donated to our preschool graduation celebration. That meant so much to our students, families, and staff. It's rare to find a business that not only offers such a high-quality product but also genuinely gives back to its community. Sweet Baking Co. has earned a customer for life. Disgustingly sweet, made me sick. The owners are also the rudest people ive met in awhile, old lady acting like a 14 year old and the other one was licking her fingers in the back while packing someone's cupcake order. I was sassed when I asked what was in their drink and I just shut up and left. Not worth talking to them. I used to live in Lompoc & have tried Sweet Baking Company's cupcakes before. I came to visit and through social media, I saw that they started selling coffee and Matcha drinks, so I decided to go check it out. Unfortunately the drinks were very underwhelming. I tried a strawberry matcha which tasted completely artificial and was way too sweet. The coffee I got tasted like any basic homemade coffee. I finally got the chance to try this place and was not disappointed. I got there right before closing and the cashier didn't try to rush me out of the door. She took her time to provide information about each cupcake. I bought a half dozen cupcakes: 2 Abuelita, 2 Ube Coconut, 1 Confetti and 1 Pink Oreo. I loved them all honestly. I wish I could leave a better review but... here we are. We have, at different times bought sweets and they were ruined by a taste/scent of cleaner!! It's so incredibly frustrating because we know that when on point, the sweets are great. This was mentioned to the woman working who seemed unbothered. Prior to visiting the Wine Ghetto in Lompoc for some wine tasting, I recalled that there was a cupcake shop I had seen before on Yelp. After all, what goes better with wine than cupcakes?! It just happened to be only 5 minutes away, so we drove on over. I passed it up three times due to it being somewhat hidden in an 'L-shaped' commercial building (P/S: The Yelp location pin has since been updated to help others not have as much trouble finding it). They did have a stand-up sign outside near the parking lot which does help make the shop more visible. While it is small, they have delicious looking cupcakes with rotating flavors. You can purchase a single cupcake, 4, 6 or a 12-pack. Since we are indecisive, we went with both a 4 and a 6 pack with one of every flavor. I adored that some of them are very unique flavors such as Strawberry Mallow and Ube Coconut. I normally despise coconut but the flavor of the cake and frosting in the Ube Coconut blew me away! The cake was super moist, similar to what they offer at Sprinkles. For those who are vegan, they always have a vegan option--this time around it was Vegan Chocolate Chip. I also loved that the daughter was the one at the counter in front of a wall that read "Hello Sugar!" The mom who happened to be the owner popped her head out to briefly say "hello." NEVER, EVER WILL I USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. NOR WILL I RECOMMEND THEM. Over two weeks prior to my son and daughter-in-laws baby girl shower, I went into the store and placed a cookie order with Missy for 5 dozen sugar cookies. Payment was made right then for half the amount plus an extra $25 to have them individually wrapped. We agreed the balance would be paid when picked up the day prior to the shower on Saturday April 12th between 12:00 and 1:00. When I got home later that day, as a follow-up to the in store order and as per her request, I emailed her a picture from HER website of the cookies I wanted and stated in the email that the colors she used on them is what I was looking for because they were PINK. However, when I walked in to pick up my order, on time, around 12:30 on 4/12, I was greeted by Missy's daughter who knew nothing of my order. I could tell immediately by the look on her face something was wrong. When she couldn't find it, she called her Mom on the phone. Missy asked that I once again provide my telephone number as she would try to locate my Torder. Within about half an hour I got a text from Missy who said: "She found my information. Somehow had misplaced the order sheet. She did apologize. Said no excuses. They will work around the clock to make sure the order gets done. She wasn't gonna charge me the balance I owed and would deliver the next day at the park in Buellton by 10 am". I responded by telling her how saddened and disappointed I was that the order was not ready while also conveying my concerns on shortcuts on the order due to lack of time. Included in the text I also reiterated what the cookie order was to be which specified PINK in color on the four designs she was gonna do and again included the picture of cookies from her website. She responded by telling me "they would be beautiful and absolutely up to their standards per usual". Sunday comes around. Missy arrives with the box of cookies and again SHEER DISAPPOINTMENT. I immediately see that the color of the frosting used is NOT PINK but more of a SALMON color. She said the picture looked that color. But I ask myself did she not read the email order or the written order she wrote up from two weeks prior or the text message sent just after she found the order where I indicated multiple times PINK. Her comment when I commented on the color was "I guess there is no satisfying you". She gave no apology for being the wrong color but instead wrote it off by saying "human error and people make mistakes" as she is saying it in a very condescending and lackadaisical attitude. As a customer, I understand mistakes. But as a business owner, she needs to understand if she hasn't fulfilled what the customer has ordered and paid for, she is gonna have an UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER. You would think after the order was screwed up on Saturday that every effort would have been made to make this order perfect and as ordered. But more importantly the customer should not be disrespected or made to feel by the owner of the business like they are inconveniencing them. Bad way to run a business! read more

The cupcakes and cookies are usually great, but the overall experience? Not as sweet as it could be. Every time I call with a question, the owner seems a bit annoyed. I'd love to stop by more often, but her condescending tone makes it a little uncomfortable. Everyone has bad days, and I totally understand that, but this has happened more than once. A great treat should come with a great experience--how customers feel when they visit is just as important as how the food tastes! The Valentine's sugar cookies were beautifully decorated, but unfortunately, they had a strong chemical taste--almost like they were stored near a cleaning solution. I've been living in Lompoc for a few months now and I have to say that Sweet Baking Co. is amazing. The first time I had it was when I was visiting my bf before we started living together and I was amazed how good the cupcakes were. The ube cheesecake is also so good and so is their iced coffee. The shop is so cute too. I think the prices are worth it for a small local business. I took some cupcakes home for my family in Ventura County and they loved it as much as I did. Oh and they're on doordash so whenever I have a sweet tooth or don't feel like driving, it's so convenient. After living in LA and SD area for years, and trying different bakeries, Sweet Baking Co. is absolutely one of my favorites. I made my first visit to Sweet Baking Co. today and I was surprised with how small the place was. You know the old saying, "Never judge a person by their size." This place is super cute and the flavors pack a HUGE DELICIOUS punch!!! We had a lemon sugar cookie, chocolate truffles, edible cookie dough, and cupcakes. They were so good!!!! All of their sweets aren't overly sugary. It's hard for me to explain, but I am always expecting these type of treats to have a grainy, sugary texture. This couldn't be farther from the truth! All of the treats had the perfect sweetness to them! I tried to save some of the lemon cookie for my kids.....but ended up eating the entire thing! :D I guess I will have to go back again to get them a cookie! Haha! The customer service, food and my ice coffee were all amazing! I'm so upset that I haven't visited this place sooner! For those who say the food is costly... go to some big box store and buy their crappy corporate sweets if you want to save a buck. If you want to support a local small business with rockstar products, stop by Sweet Baking Co. and enjoy the delicious treats! I love this bakery!! It's the reason I'm on Wegovy... lol. I come here once a week to get the confetti cupcakes. I just finished the adult cake decorating class and it was so much fun. I've been getting desserts from Sweet Baking Co. for a while now to properly give a review. The customer service is always great and the people working the cash register are always helpful and kind. The only issue is the actual flavors of the desserts/drinks. I've gotten cupcakes that tastes amazing (toffee, confetti, and tiramisu) but their ube cupcake is always lacking. I bought their matcha drink as well and it had no flavor whatsoever. It tasted super watered down. I thought maybe it's because I needed to stir it but no. I recently tried their pumpkin swirl cheesecake and it was delicious, but the only thing is that the pumpkin flavor was not there. Cute little hidden gem. It's on the Main Street, but it's kind of hidden. My friend and I stopped here after lunch and ordered the Nutella and strawberry crepes, which was great. There's no indoor seating, but they do have outdoor seating. They also had a variety of treats that accommodate different diets and lifestyles, such as vegan cakes and sugar free keto cheesecakes. Yum! Cupcakes were moist and the icing was delicious, especially the vanilla icing. Husband thought the chocolate icing was too light, like whipped cream, but I thought it was more like chocolate mousse and really enjoyed it.
