It was barking at customers and disrupting the calm, comfortable environment that a café is supposed to have. As someone who is highly allergic to dogs, I also appreciate businesses that are mindful of customers who may not be able to safely or comfortably be around pets indoors. Sankofa has a clearly posted policy that pets are not allowed inside, while still being thoughtful toward pet owners by offering outdoor seating, water, and treats for pets outside. Based on what I saw, the owner was not being unreasonable or unwelcoming. She was responding to a situation that had become disruptive for other customers. At that point, asking the party to step outside seemed like a reasonable way to restore a peaceful and comfortable environment for everyone in the café. I cannot speak to every detail of the interaction, but from what I observed, the owner was not the person being portrayed in that review. Unfortunately, minutes later, the owner, Jessica Troupe, stepped in aggressively. When I notified her of his status, she was completely dismissive, setting a very poor example for her young staff member. Her confrontational and aggressive approach showed a clear ignorance of both the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD) guidelines regarding public accommodations. If you rely on a service animal, please be warned. I will not be supporting this establishment. I hope management takes immediate steps to properly educate themselves on accessibility laws
