This place has some good options, but it is more expensive than your average coffee shop. The first thing I noticed when I popped in was the menu was on a very fast rotation so that it was pretty difficult to read. I asked if they had a physical copy, which they did not. So even though they went digital only, they had no listed prices, which is annoying, especially if there was a line. It's just not the most ideal ordering experience. I did get a hazelnut frappe ($6.50) which was sweet and very thick. I was tempted and gave into a cinnamon role ($7.50) which they warmed up. Both were perfect sweet treats and didn't taste odd being vegan. The roll was huge. I probably shouldn't have gotten both because it was decadent, but they both rocked. There are a few chairs by the window, but there isn't a lot of space inside. The order did take a while to prepare, but it was interesting to try. read more

Intentionally looked up Black Owned coffee shops in the area and Sweet Trail Cafe was the closest so that's where I wound up. It's angled on a the corner of Broad and Belleville (which is cool bc of how it's situated) and when you walk in you know you're stepping a bit back in time bc some of the original features of the building are still evident which makes for a warm welcome. There's plenty of seating available if you want to stay and people watch out the window or post up and do a little work with a cushioned window seat and table. I didn't even realize they were vegan until the wonderful woman stated it as I inquired about the dairy choices (so this was my first time having a vegan iced coffee). I went with the Crème Brûlée iced with oat milk and it HIT! It was seriously one of the most delicious iced coffees I've ever had (& I drink a lot of iced coffee). I will certainly be back to support this business and I need everyone else to pay them a visit too bc they should have a lot more foot traffic on a Wednesday morning. read more

Ambiance: nice spot to come for lunch or a quick drink like a hot chocolate coffee etc... they have some seating available. Food: me and my friend split the empanada and the Taylor ham and egg biscuit ... and let me just tell you it was all delicious!!!! I couldn't have been more pleased by the taste of everything. Couldn't even tell it was Vegan! The hot sauce on the side completed both meals although I think it was just made for the empanada. Parkings a little but their food is worth the driving around for it! The hot chocolate with oat milk was also very delicious, flavor was good, and presentation was great. Service: there was only one woman behind the counter but she was very friendly and helpful on placing the order. She made this experience of a new place worthwhile. read more

I can't believe this is our first time here. Wish I could go back in time just so that we could have been enjoying their baked goods, coffee and food for longer. We had the vegan Bacon Egg and Cheese on a Biscuit and wow- the biscuit was perfectly soft and savory and the vegan eggs were fluffy- honestly the perfect breakfast sandwich. I'm always hunting for a vegan friendly spot that doesn't sacrifice flavor. My youngest has a dairy and egg allergy and on our special mommy and me day I stopped by this cafe and she enjoyed her first vegan cinnamon bun. We got two thumbs up! The women was so sweet and boxed two because she said they were small. I also ordered a nitro cold brew which to be honest was pretty good. I would definitely try some other items and parking was pretty easy on the street. Always trying vegan places and this has to be the best I've had in Jersey yet. I didn't have a chance to dine in, but the inside was welcoming and cozy. Coffee was delicious and loud in flavor. The chocolate chip cookie and chocolate cupcake, amazing. First time Ive had vegan sweets without the 'vegan' after taste. The Taylor ham, egg, and cheese nothing short of a solid breakfast sandwich. And my favorite purchase, the beef and potato empanada. Nothing like I've ever had before. Sweet Trail is deserving of all flowers. I will be absolutely be going back and telling everyone about it. 7/22 Rushing to work but wanted a quick bite. Stopped by Sweet Trail, which I pass on the way to work daily. Today, I had the vanilla flavored cold brew with almond milk and a Beyond Beef empanada. The coffee was great but the empanada was Beyond delicious (See what I did there?) The crust was flaky and it was just one flavorful bite after the other. This place is the real deal. We had some amazing coffee and the Taylor ham (fake meat and egg) sandwich. Being a true New Jerseyian, but also a vegetarian, it's hard to give up Taylor ham. I was totally convinced by this sandwich. I hope they make it a permanent feature on their menu. I want to go back to try some of the sweets. They all look amazing. Sweet Trail Vegan Cafe is actually a recommendation from an employee of a chicken shack , and I'm glad about taking on the recommendation. I experience good customer service; an employee is very patient and willing during my visit. I order a Lobster Roll, Taylor Ham (Vegan Eggs and Vegan Cheese, on an everything bagel), and a Got Da Juice (Black Mamba) drink. Before being Vegan, Lobster is one of my go to meal options. After eating Lobster in Maine, I'm familiar with different senses of tastes in relation to Lobster foods. Hearts of Palm taste good though I'm familiar with my Lobster bits warm. The Lobster Roll is tasty, and the chips support the Lobster Roll well. The Taylor Ham is good. I actually remember wanting to try the Taylor Ham first after learning of the eatery (another meal with a comparison from a Non-Vegan time): I like the Taylor Ham, not as warm as the Non-Vegan one I remember, though as good. Got Da Juice is so good! The Fuji Apple and Lemon are the most flavorful ingredients mixing well with the other ingredients! The eatery accepts multiple forms of payment. read more

I had high hopes for the Taylor ham breakfast sandwich, and I was a bit let down.. the Taylor ham was hard, the biscuit literally fell apart so I couldn't eat the sandwich Iike an actual sandwich, there were traces of vegan cheese but it wasn't spread throughout the sandwiches, and I just wasn't impressed. HOWEVER- the cupcakes and scone were 100000% great! I tried the Oreo cupcake and shared the red velvet & funfetti cupcakes with non-vegan friends. My friends were shocked that the cupcakes were vegan because it tasted so good! I also tried the blueberry scone- I think this is the best vegan scone I've had to date !!!! Despite the Taylor ham fiasco, I can't wait to come back and try more items! I just wish the inside was more inviting to sit & eat there. read more

Sweet Trail is absolutely the best cafe in the Montclair area. The food is so delicious, it's definitely such an under-appreciated spot. I recommend it to everyone I know visiting the area, vegan or not. I've only visited a handful of times, but I always see the same pleasant woman working so hard!
