I am so disappointed in what I thought was going to be a great "football pre game snack". After reading all the hype about Sweet Chix and the chicken strips all I can say is we were not enjoying what was purchased. And the cole slaw was a tastless container of cabbage and mayo. Chicken was moist and full of flavor. Choose the 1/2 chicken Nashville hot. Every piece was spicy and a complete delight to eat. I wished I had gotten the whole bird, not that I was not full from eating what I purchased, but the food was that good. DELICIOUS. Tried them out about 6 weeks ago as part of our "every Friday is a takeout night during Covid" series. Wasn't sure how much to order and would definitely do more than the two picnic boxes we got (one per person.) I liked the mild flavor and the crunch without the grease. Definitely an order-ahead situation and they have timed access for retrieval (or did some weeks back) so this is NOT a spontaneous dinner plan. Signage and figuring out the process of going in was a bit challenging on a dark night! Hope they can rectify that over the spring. Definitely a "return to" place. read more

We tried Sweet Chix today and it was excellent! We ordered the Nashville hot and the original. Enjoyed both, depends on personal preference. The hot was hot but not overbearing. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the coating was perfect even to go. Can't wait to try it at the restaurant. Fresh coleslaw and the creamiest, cheesiest Mac & cheese. Tried this place for the first time and really liked it! The batter on the chicken was flavorful and delicious. We got the coleslaw, mashed potatoes and baked beans for sides and all were very good. The fried apple pies are worth trying too if you like apple pie. Will definitely come back to try some other things on the menu. read more

This location may be jinxed. The current iteration, Sweet Chix, has a tough row to hoe. Its unique offerings take some getting used to and are not for everyone. Burgers and breakfast at this place in the past were pretty standard fare and pretty good, but COVID, competition, and the strange vibes of this busy Lafayette Road outpost did in previous tenants. I'm not convinced the current (limited) fare will draw beyond the curious and upscale fried chicken aficionados. The people are nice, service quick and thoughtful, but the food is, well, interesting, tasty, plentiful, but somewhat bizarre. Sometimes that's a good thing. Here, with limited choices, it's not good enough to warrant a return visit. As I said, the location is jinxed. Good luck anyway. read more

We ordered two whole chickens, one Classic and one Nashville, for dinner the night before Thanksgiving. We had heard a great deal about Sweet Chix, so this was the opportunity to try it. Result? Both whole chickens were in eight pieces, as advertised, but the reconstructed sizes suggested very small whole chickens. Very small. The Classic was the far better of the two, albeit a bit dry. The Nashville, on the other hand, might be better off staying in Tennessee. Over-spiced, salty, and even more than a bit dry. Actually we've been to Nashville, and this chicken wouldn't begin to make it there. So three stars for the Classic and the coleslaw that actually was the winner for the evening and elevated the experience from two to three. read more

Was really looking forward to some real southern fried chicken. One of my favorite meals to eat. However, not this fried chicken. 4 diners, and we had our meals to go. We all found the chicken and mashed potatoes way too salty. The chicken was moist and not greasy but that didn't make up for the salt. Did not care for the shell mac and cheese at all. So we finally got to try this new place. Mix up with our order but the hostess in front was super nice and accommodating and got our order fixed immediately. Now the food, chicken was nice and moist(I'm assuming thigh meat) not greasy just not my style of flavor. Very southern - the Mac and cheese-yuck. Thick like wallpaper paste but my husband liked it. He said it's all a southern flair which I guess is not my style. The chicken soup was flavorful but didn't have hardly any celery or chicken, mostly noodles. Nothing like the photo of the soup. People seem to love it so I think I am in the minority. read more

Had a craving for fried chicken, and there are literally no places in greater Portsmouth NH that serve it... until I looked up on the interwebs and saw Sweet Chix. Ordered online, a busy Friday so the order was a bit delayed. Got it home, heated it up in the oven.. and was universally praised. I found the Nashville spice to be a bit much, in a chili powder way. But the tenders and the regular recipe was a huge hit. ( Hubs loved the spicy). Mashed potatoes and gravy were awesome, and the tenders were totally perfect. Worth the drive and will definitely be going back again. Probably will order a bit earlier for early pick up - as this place is really popular, for all the right reasons. Well done!! read more

Good. Not great. It's all dark meat or thigh meat. That can be okay for some things. But at least give us a variety. In the soup I prefer both. For chicken strips I expected tenders or breast strips. They were all thigh meat. The flavours are decent. But not my style. read more

Ordered the whole chicken for two of us w/mashed potato and gravy and coleslaw. Chicken was juicy but the coleslaw and potato was just OK. The gravy, however, was the worst tasting gravy I have ever had. Will not return. read more

Hands down the best takeout around. The chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sides were all great -- particularly the mashed potatoes and cole slaw. It was easy to order online and the order was ready in less than an hour. Highly recommend! read more
