We walk upstairs and there's ribbons on the doorway and tables set up for an event. Then we're rudely told hours are wrong online who are you guys etc. Weird. Change your hours. Or don't leave the door open and have a sign saying bar open. Cringe

Sometimes the bands are exceptional, sometimes not. They do offer food, bar bites and such. It's mostly just a watering hole where you can get your fade on. They also have an old piano to the left of the entrance door that you can play. I always bring visitors to my city to the Stone Church, it's a must if you're in Newmarket and you're off the wagon. They used to be known to have very good chicken fingers, but I always seem to go and there aren't any for some reason. They have eluded me for years, maybe they've been removed from the menu.

The potato leek soup was bland, unimaginative and contained a couple of pieces of something that was like a bone. I'm sure it was a seasoning and he told us what it was but I'd never heard of it. My advice? Strain it out of the soup. The soup sizes are closer to a cup than a bowl. 2 soups no drink $25. $30 with a tip. I'm glad this place is hopping and does a good business but honestly, they've lost mine.

The white pizza is my absolute favorite and my go to. Since the new ownership, we've noticed a huge improvement in the quality of the food and service which makes us love this place even more. Panzanella was the place my husband and I went on one of our first dates, and years later it's still our go-to date night spot. We no longer live in town but travel back to Newmarket just to eat here. Great drinks, great food, and lots of great memories here. Highly recommend! Oh! And the holiday decor was super fun!

We've gone there for lunch almost every week, and lately, the experience has really declined. The staff rarely seem happy or welcoming anymore -- there's very little warmth or friendliness. Dishes are tossed into bins so loudly as if the waitstaff don't care about the guest experience! The sound is so jarring that it really takes away from enjoying the meal you work hard to pay for. Also, more than once I've overheard kitchen staff loudly telling each other grumpy things like to "shut up," which isn't exactly the vibe you want over breakfast. The only time the waitstaff really engage with a forced smile is when they drop off the check. On top of that, orders are often wrong, toast and home fries come out burnt, and the coffee on my last visit was barely lukewarm. Whatever happened to simple caring and kindness? Lately, it feels like customer experience isn't at the heart of things anymore at the Big Bean -- and when that slips, everything else eventually does too. The atmosphere has completely changed too. It used to feel fun, lively, and full of character -- now it just feels tired. The walls and beams are chipped, the floors sticky, the tables are wobbly, and the wonderful artwork of locals that gave the place charm is gone too. It's like the energy has been drained out of the building. I used to look forward to going there every week, but now it feels like we're inconveniencing the employees just by showing up. It's sad to see such a great local spot lose its spark.
