Sweet Heather Anne has found themselves in a nice new location in Westgate and it's served them, and us, so well! The previous location, tho very adorable, was often difficult to get to (on Main Street smack dab between the main drag of downtown and the M-14 on ramp which made visiting tough during peak traffic times) and small for things like classes and the like. This new spot is not just bigger for them behind the scenes (you can see their production space via the window next door) but there's a large lobby for both showcasing their beautiful cake work and also for classes which they host regularly on the weekends. I've taken classes on both the older location and in this new space and I have to say this new space is much roomier and easier to work in than the previous spot. And the classes are so well organized and I've learned so much. Even if you're not an experienced cake or cookie decorator it's a blast as Heather and her team make the projects accessible for every skill level. You also walk away with some delicious treats and some really useful worksheets and instructions (I still use the royal icing recipe I received in a class I took 7 years ago). Speaking of delicious treats, they've also opened back up their walk-in dessert counter once a month so you can stop in to pick up cake slices or cookies (the chocolate brownie cookies are SO good). And for special occasions you can also pre-order one of their signature designed cakes on their website for pick up that weekend. Cake options come in a variety of trendy decor choices, from frilly vintage piping with glittered cherries, to pressed flowers or watercolor painting on the sides. All the designs and flavors are perfect for a birthday, anniversary, or even a small intimate wedding. I recently went to a wedding that went this route and instead of getting a tall tiered cake they had several of the Sweet Heather Anne signature layer cakes on a dessert table. It was beautiful! And more affordable and convenient than a custom design. That said, if you're looking to splurge on a fancy design they can also hook that up! I wish I could give Sweet Heather Anne way more than five stars! For my birthday this year, I ordered a cake from them during their summer sale, and my family and I love it so much! My dad actually said "this is the most perfect cake I've ever had." I chose their chocolate cake/pistachio buttercream option, and it is absolutely delightful. The chocolate cake is perfectly moist, and the perfect amount of decadence so that it is never too much. The pistachio buttercream and the outer buttercream of the cake are both excellent - light, airy, and never too sweet. I can really taste the freshness of the pistachios in the pistachio buttercream! I've also never had a cake that cuts as wonderfully as this one does - I used a butter knife and it slid through the cake like butter and made picture perfect slices. To our delight, the tasting cakes were generously sized and we got to take plenty of leftovers home where we finalized our cake and dessert spread. We decided on chocolate chocolate top and strawberry vanilla bottom for our cake. We were serving both layers to our guests. Sweet Heather Anne offers the option of a new cake top for your 1-year anniversary! While we still froze two pieces, we definitely wanted to enjoy a fresh cake on our anniversary. We also opted for chocolate salted caramel mini cupcakes - GET THESE! Chocolate sea salt cookies - THESE TOO! And, two types of macarons. For macaron flavors, no official list exists - You can literally let your imagination run wild. We were offered some guidance when we asked for suggestions. Sweet Heather Anne baked the wedding cake for my Wife and I wedding in 2018. We elected to have the cake in two different flavors which were Vanilla Praline and Raspberry Rose. It tasted excellent and looked even better. We were very happy with the outcome. Their business also offered a free cake on the first anniversary of our marriage. Due to life happening, were not able to contact them in 2019 which was a year after we got married. I contacted them a few weeks ago as our 3rd anniversary was coming up and if it was still an option to receive the cake on our anniversary. Due to Covid, they were only taking email communication. Picked up two cakes in a cup to share with my fiance. We are trying to help local places out during the quarantine and I'm so glad I picked up these sweets!!! Basically they are cake and frosting extras in a little tub. SOOOOOO DELICIOUS! We don't need a whole cake sitting around and I was able to get two different flavors. The strawberry frosting is to die for!!! Tastes like fresh berries. And the chocolate??? We selected sweet heather Anne because they were the preferred vendor for our venue waterview loft. We were not disappointed! The staff was very flexible and open to our vision of what we wanted. They worked with us so that we were able to stay within our budget for the number of guests we had which almost never happens in the wedding planning process. So it was refreshing to leave there not hemorrhaging money. They also have a large variety of flavors to choose from. We went with pumpkin maple in a sheet cake and strawberry vanilla in our main actual cake. We also received a free cake in our wedding cake flavor on our 1 year anniversary! This was great because the idea of a year old frozen cake top was not something we wanted to do. The only downside was we were told there wouldn't be any cardboard between our cake layers on our wedding day after there was cardboard in our cake tasting cakes. Sweet Heather Anne is located just a little off the UM campus. The shop is quaint and cute, decorated by a variety of wedding cake designs, biscuits, and macaron gift boxes. I ordered a 6" peanut butter chocolate crunch cake off of their Easter menu. The buttercream was soft and tasted subtly of peanut butter. The quality of the layer of chocolate ganache was good, especially in Ann Arbor, but could be better compared to cakes from Patisserie Tony Wong in Hong Kong. The macarons on the cake could be better and leans towards the harder side. But overall, I'm sold by how gorgeous the cake is and the slash of watercolor that decorated the exterior of it. Our cake was a masterpiece, a site to behold and exactly what we wanted: no one would politely turn away a slice on our magical night. It had to be a must-have. Meeting this dynamic duo was a treat from the start. We knew of their commitment to only seasonal, fresh, local and all quality ingredients going into the tasting, but we had no sense of their vast imagination. They swiftly concepted a design that reflected details from my dress and surprises for my groom, given that he of course would not be seeing my dress in advance. So, that was something amazing to anticipate, along with their tapping into the floral at Planterra Conservatory, our venue, and our palette. The cake literally delighted everyone in attendance. Our wedding cake from Sweet Heather Anne was amazing. They were one of the preferred cake vendors for our wedding venue, Waterview Loft, and I was so excited because I had been following them on Instagram for years, just because they were a local bakery making beautiful cakes. It was super easy to set up our free tasting with four flavors online, and when we decided to add a fifth flavor at the last second, they easily set that up for us, for an additional $10. Our tasting/design appointment was hands down my favorite vendor meeting of all wedding planning. We got mini cakes of each of the flavors we chose in advance, with plenty leftover for us to take home and enjoy later. We easily decided on Raspberry Rose and Caramel Praline, which were unique and delicious. Then we got into the designing. I brought inspiration photos from cakes we both liked, and I explained to the designer Katie that I thought the embroidery on my dress might make a cool design. She got really excited and sketched out this unique cake based on my dress and accented with flowers from our bouquets/centerpieces, all while keeping the picture of the dress hidden from my fiancé who wanted my dress to be a surprise to him. It was such a fun, delicious, and customized vendor meeting- I left feeling giddy. After we left I had no further communication with Sweet Heather Anne because they took care of everything without needing any further direction or input from me, which is great when you're planning a wedding with a million things to keep track of. On our wedding day, they delivered the cake, set it up, and decorated it with flowers provided by our floral vendor. The only sad thing is I never saw them in person the day of the wedding to thank them for our beautiful cake! Reading all the positive reviews on WeddingWire.com truly blew my mind. After a little investigating I found that a vendor can remove any unwanted review from WeddingWire, thus providing the facade of perfection. I find it is horribly bad business practice to remove unpleasant but honest reviews and shows how unopened to criticism this establishment truly must be. Here's what I originally stated on WeddingWire: I sampled cake from here and honestly couldn't recommend it to anyone. The consistency and texture of the cake is very close to a dense bread. As off-putting as that sounds, it gets worse. Not even the frosting could salvage this bland disappointment. Literally it tastes like the cake is covered in pure lard. It doesn't matter which "flavor" you order, there's barely a difference in taste between the frostings--aside from the toppings they coat them in. Sweet Heather Anne was AMAZING. I didn't know what to expect, having never worked with a bakery before my wedding, but they were wonderful. They were very friendly, responsive and professional. Their talent was also truly astonishing. My husband and I had a constellation themed wedding with navy and gold colors. We asked them if they could make a tiered "constellation-inspired" cake. Not only were they not put off by our strange request, they wanted to know if we wanted specific constellations and even came up with a beautiful idea for the top that fit perfectly. I love the artistic design of their cakes. I have never tried any of their cakes before. I decided to go to their dessert counter to buy the macaron for gift. The service was nice the store was pretty. However the macaron and chocolate chip cookies were very disappointing. I am not expecting to get macaron of the level of Ladure in Ann Arbor because that will be unfair. I tried many macarons before and there were many hit and miss from just across the stores. So, I decide to buy 1 $2 macaron along with one box of macaron for a gift. But this macarons are just off. The texture was too hard (cookie hard). It was as if you bite into a biscuit. While the macaron that I know of are supposed to be crispy shell but then soft in the middle. The cream should be more buttery and not runny. I am not sure if this is another version of macaron that I am just not familiar with, but to me it is just way off. The salted chocolate chip cookies that I tried are rock hard. I hate to do this to a small business, but j was so disappointed in the cookies here. I am really into cookies and I bought a mixed dozen for my family Christmas party. They were beautifully presented snd yet some of the worst cookies I've ever had. The ginger/chocolate was a weird combination that did not work. The Mexican shortbread were soooo dry, and these are usually a favorite for me. The chocolate stars were like burnt brownies. I have been meaning to give this place a try for quite a while now. I was so excited that I remembered to stop by on Fri. because, they only have counter hours on Fri. (10-6) and Sat. (9-2) I was so looking forward to sampling a piece of her cake and hoping to be able to use this place as a local cake maker for events. Alas, she said they had no cake!! She had baked one cake for the counter and it was already sold out. I was so disappointed because, it was only about 1:30 pm and they were still suppose to be open until 6 pm. I mean I would completely understand if I arrived 10 minutes before 6 pm and they were all out of an item but to arrive when they have only been open for a few hours and then be told that they are already sold out of their main item....what a disappointment. So instead I ordered a cookie, macaroon, and brownie. The cookie was a little dry but, had a great chewiness to it and a good flavor. Overall I would give their cookies another chance. The macaroon had too much filling and the shell was dry. Overall, I would not order their macaroons again. The brownie...well to be fair it didn't get eaten for 3 days.....so I think I will probably stop by again (this time earlier) sample their cake, cookies, and give their brownies another shot. I had a wonderful experience working with Sweet Heather Anne for our wedding cake. When I first found out that a creative cake place had come to Ann Arbor, I was anxious to try them out for our upcoming wedding. From the tasting to the consultation, everything was perfect. Since my husband couldn't attend the tasting, they even offered to pack up extra samples for me to bring home. We also inquired about the dessert table options and they sent us home with a complimentary box full of all their goodies. We loved the Mexican shortbread and macaroons! For our cake, we had it split between chocolate buttercream with chocolate cake (super rich and perfect for a chocolate lover) and raspberry buttercream with vanilla cake (fresh raspberry puree in the frosting). Yes, their cakes are denser than your commercial grocery store cakes or even some traditional bakeries, but this is what sets them apart from everyone else. With a variety of gourmet cupcakeries here in Houston, Sweet Heather Anne's cake style is very similar and would easily be able to compete with the best of the best. They pride themselves on using local ingredients, sort of a farm to table cake experience. I can't say enough great things about this bakery. They are definitely focused on custom work, but are absolutely great at what they do. I ordered an engagement cake from Sweet Heather Anne recently and the whole experience could not have gone better! Let me start by saying that I am ALL ABOUT cake. After many hours of watching cake shows on TV and even working in a cake decorating studio one summer I had really high expectations when ordering my very own fancy cake. Heather was incredibly friendly and receptive of my ideas about an engagement cake based on the movie "Up." In the end the cake looked amazing. You could tell that there was a great deal of artistic thought put into the design, especially the great color choices. They are truly amazing and made my day so special and joyous. We had to communicate with their staff mostly over the phone because we live in California but they were more than accommodating and a pleasure to work with overall. When it came to the cake tasting all I can say is YUM! Every flavor was incredible! We ended up choosing the Mexican spiced chocolate and the damson plum.
