While blue moon tastes like fruity pebbles, butterfly moon tastes exactly like froot loops and is even the color the milk turns when you have a bowl. I've only been here once so far, but it was really good overall. I tried the salty caramel coffee and that flavor was genuinely incredible. Definitely the standout for me. They have a huge variety of flavors though and it definitely feels like the kind of place you need to come back to multiple times to really explore the menu. Every time I walk by there's basically a line around the block, so clearly people love it. Thankfully when I actually went, the service moved pretty quickly. We have been here several times when in Ann Arbor bc the ice cream is so good! Very creamy high quality and such unique flavors. My husband's fave is the basil with a lemon syrup on top! Oof! Wow, this is awful ice cream. Maybe in the Midwest this counts as good but if you're from New England, this is completely terrible. The ice cream itself tasted like mushed up white paper and the fudge tasted like the color brown. I know everybody seems to like this ice cream here but apparently they've never had really actually good ice cream. If you're used to delicious creamy freshly made in house ice cream especially from the New England area, do not go to this place. Long time customer of blank slate. The first time I tried it got me hooked. One of the best ice cream places in Ann Arbor. My one concern is the waste from all the ice cream cups and spoons. How does the shop recycle/reuse the spoons especially. If you are great. If you are not, that is a lot of waste and especially when the city is trying to be sustainable, the shop should follow. Why are the spoons being thrown away? Can they be replaced with wooden recyclable or compostable spoons. If compostable, are they truly being composted. I think the shop can do more in this case and still maintain the cost and/or even lower the cost of maintain cost and improve profitability. Something to think about. On our way to Ann Arbor my hubby tells me that Blank Slate is one of the best ice cream shops in the country. He just read it in an article. Since we were going to be there anyway, we stopped by to try it out. I sampled some of their flavors and they were all very good. I settled on the one scoop $5.50 split for $0.75 more. I got the balsamic strawberry and lavender lemon honey. They were both yummy, but the lavender lemon honey hit the spot. The hubby got two scoops $7.25 of the Vietnamese cinnamon. His friend got two scoops of the chocolate fudge brownie. They serve their ice cream in a waffle cone that's made in house or in a paper cup. It was hard to find parking. They have five spaces in front of the shop. We drove around the block and luckily somebody left and we took that space. They were busy. The lines were long, but it went down fast. Blank Slate seemed to be celebrating their ten year anniversary with a yummy looking sundae. This place has been on our food bucket list for a very long time, but after watching it highlighted on Good Morning America, we finally made it over here for a try. I am not sure why we waited so long, but it was worth the visit. It was really delicious here. It is a cute store front with a very steady stream of customers, so you know it is much beloved in the neighborhood. The people working here were very friendly and eager to provided samples of all of their flavors. I had to try their Good Morning American coffee cherry flavor, so good, but I settled on their popular brown butter cookie dough and cherry crumble. (or cobbler, I do not quite remember which, but it was beyond delicious). We also tried their banana muffin, blueberry pancake, peanut butter cookie dough, chocolate peanut butter, and raspberry sorbet. All of the flavors were fantastic. And the sorbet was so refreshing. I liked that they had waffle bowls. I love a cone, but a waffle that fits in the cup is even better. I loved all of their creative flavors, and they claim to use good ingredients in their products which means we can all eat here. I liked the vegan options. I would love to try their sundaes and their cookie ice cream sandwiches. I like how you can get a split scoop with two smaller scoops because even though I want two scoops of ice cream, I only need one scoop. There is a lot of paid parking and a small lot to park there.
