We had this twice while in Canada, once at Clifton hill and once in Toronto. Both locations were packed and I can see why. The first time I tried to get the birthday cake ice cream at nob hill and they ran out of sprinkles so I decided to get it the next day. It was presented so cute with a birthday candle on top. Sweet Jesus isn't supposed to close until 10pm, and last night there was a hoard of people outside who wanted to get in and buy ice cream. It was 10 to 10, and some lady opened the door and said that it's not up to her, but management who has decided to shut it down 15 min early before close (as was said to me by other people who were standing there) so whoever is the MANAGEMENT there needs to go. It's good but it's not THAT good. Especially considering the line-up. I think we lined up for about 30 minutes or so before we got inside. They give you the menu to look at while you're lining up so that's good. What you're basically getting is a large soft serve with a ton of chocolate, cookies, nuts and syrup on the top. For the price you're paying (and I believe you have to pay extra if you're paying with a card) it's not worth it. Save your money and spend it on actual good ice cream instead of paying for all the extras on top of the soft serve. I agree with the other reviewers that it's definitely over hyped. read more

It had those little stale WHITE marshmallows (no burnt or toasted ones in sight) stuck all over very sweet chocolate? soft icecream, crushed to a powder graham crackers dumped over a stream of inedible chocolate sauce. I don't know about you but I want my stuff INSIDE my icecream, this was falling all over the outside. It was terrible and SO incredibly sweet I couldn't eat it. SWEET JESUS they have a good thing going on, and with many places in Toronto not doing a dessert menu, this is an absolute diamond in the rough. Hearing about the Sweet Jesus rave, I just had to try this place. For those living uptown there's a second location near Yonge and Eglinton. Lucky for us, the line up was not too bad, I'd say on average about 15-20 min wait. As you finally enter the small entrance and cashier you realize Sweet Jesus is adjoining to La Carnitas. Note that the mini size is enough for one person, we found out the hard way as we struggled to finish our desserts lol. Group of 3 we ordered their: Banging brownie: decadent, almost looks like a pile of dog crap, but nonetheless yum. Rocky road rage: toppled with loads of chocolate and goodness. Campfire smores: marshmallow, Gram crackers, etc Overall rating 3/5 for all three ice creams. The prices are reasonable, however would I come back? Perhaps, if I'm in the area. Worth going once for the novelty, but I don't plan on coming back. It's a fun concept: soft serve ice cream covered in delicious and/or outrageous toppings. Went recently and got the Cookies Cookies Cookies and Cream. My wife got the brownie one (don't remember the exact name). The toppings on both were delicious. Unfortunately, the best thing I can say about the soft serve itself was that there was a lot of it. But it wasn't particularly good. Not sure how to describe it - but it felt drier and stickier than usual soft serve. Maybe a special formulation so that it can support all the toppings they heap on? Regardless, neither of us finished our ice cream (but we did finish the toppings!). I'm glad to have gone, but wish I had gotten a small. And I don't really plan on going back. read more

I have been to Sweet Jesus a few times. The first time I went it was last year when they were all the rage on Instagram. It has always been super busy where I have gone, but honestly, the line moves super quickly. I happy that they have started offering smaller sizes as the original size is too big for one person to finish alone. Ice cream is a bit on the pricier size for what you are getting, but it is a huge serving. However, I am sad to say that this ice cream is nothing special. It is just plain soft serve. Im not saying it wasn't worth it but it was a good experience. I got the birthday cake ice cream as it was my birthday haha. They lit me a candle and when I stepped outside my friends and people waiting in line starting singing happy birthday. It was a funny moment. Waited on a perfect day when it wasn't all hyped up yet. Only 15 minutes to get my krusty the cone. It was a good choice. Not too heavy and actually quite refreshing. Walking in on a Friday evening, there were a fair amount of customers who were ordering ice cream cones covered with toppings. Honestly, the cones were photo-worthy but then again for the prices it's expected. I had the daily feature popsicle and my vegan friend had their non-dairy pumpkin option. I had both, and they were both delicious... however, AGAIN for the price, it is expected. The lower review is for the sole reason that I would have been happier with a Cyclone popsicle from the gas station. -10 degree weather with wind chill did not stop us from giving Sweet Jesus a shot. And Sweet Jesus.. it was worth it! They have a pretty big menu for a soft serve ice cream place, with loads of premium toppings. The price for the loaded cones were somewhere around $6. They do not disappoint though, and are huge in size. I got the Lemon Coconut Cream Pie.. it was delicious. The soft serve was a zesty lemon flavor, but not too sour and it was rolled in a pie crust with some coconut. It was so good! I definitely want to come back (maybe when it's a little warmer lol) and try more flavours. I went later in the evening and there was a bit of a line but it moved quickly. The staff were not the most friendly and have minimal interaction with customers but the ice cream was great. Very creamy and I really enjoyed toppings. I did not like that the ice cream was far to large for the size of the cup so you have to eat it quickly or else it drips everywhere. They will also not make changes to the toppings for you. So if you asked for no marshmallows they would not do that for you. I do understand that they are often busy but they are making it right there fore you so I don't think small changes are an unreasonable request. read more

I had asked for my lemon-coconut treat in a cup and was promptly told they were out of spoons. Argh! I could foresee I was in for a bit of a mess and sure enough, moments after walking outside, I had lemon curd on my chinos. I don't know about you but I like to enjoy my ice-cream at a moderate pace but buyer beware: you will have to work at full speed to ensure you lick it up before it messes you up! There was a big hype about Sweet Jesus, so I wanted to try it for myself. I got the Rocky Road Rage to share, which was chocolate soft serve with marshmallows, chocolate sauce, walnut cashew, and oreo crumble. At the beginning, it was tasted great. The mix of the toppings and the soft serve was a good balance. But once you finish the toppings, it is just the same as eating chocolate soft serve, although it was very creamy. Also as a warning, it was very messy to eat. In terms of the interior, it was very small with limited space to stand around to eat. Overall, they had creative flavours, but I don't think it is worth the hype, especially for $6.50 +tax. read more

I loved it! I definitely went for the instagram picture! Although we had to wait in line around 15 to 20 mnts, They made my ice cream so pretty and didn't even look like they rushed it because of the long line up, I even thought it was too good to eat. After taking several pictures, I thought oh my GOD, the ice cream was HEAVENLY. I thought I heard the ANGELS singing. It was pretty darn good, oh and I had the Krusty cone. It made me want to say SWEET JESUS out loud, because it was a holy sugar rush. I loved the pink drizzle, the sprinkles,the cotton candy, and everything about it.
