Stopped by here for dessert as i was told it was a must try in the area. Service was decent it a very quick order and go type of situation. For the price of 7.5 a ice cream i kinda of expected more. Both of our icecreams had a hole in the middle. What i am guessing is from the way they fill the cup. But the amount of ice cream you get i dont feel like its worth it. As from kawartha you can get something almost double the size for less. After you pickup there is no where really to eat so we went back to the car and ate it there. It's been almost a decade since I've been going to bar ape. I easily spent more than $100 here, when it first opened I would go every week as they switch flavors up each week. They post their flavors on their IG ahead of time. They have so many unique flavors! One of my all time fave is cucumber cantaloupe twist. This is cash only and it's $6! They usually have a long line but it goes by quickly! It's just a takeout spot but the store front is cute! Highly recommend! It's my favourite spot for soft serve! read more

It was good! I don't think it's the best gelato in the city, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are no seats, so you can take it to go, or eat it on one of the numerous benches nearby. There were only 2 people behind the window serving customers, but they were pretty efficient and kept the line moving fairly quickly. My favourite Toronto gelato shop! I've been coming here for over 6 years now and I love this little tiny shop so much! They're open in the summer months only so it makes it so much more special to have this sweet treat in the summer when they are open. This is CASH ONLY, so make sure you grab some before heading here for some delicious gelato. There's no store front, only an open window where you get served. They have new features in soft serve pairings weekly, and all ingredients are based on seasonal fruits that are available. They also have gelato sundaes, gelato bars and pints for sale. The pints usually are the flavour of the previous weeks' weekly feature. I follow their socials closely to know which flavours they have each week. But since I've been going here for so long and have my absolute favourite flavour of cantaloupe, I know that it comes near the end of summer when cantaloupe is the sweetest. It's fun that each week the flavours are different and announced on their socials. But also would be a bummer to miss my favourite flavour if I'm travelling. Give this spot a try. Excited to try Bar Ape gelato because they're only open for a few months between Thursday to Sunday and have specials. This weekend's special was matcha, yuzu, or a twist of both. When we got there, it was busy, but the service was quick and friendly. We ordered the special twist (match and yuzu) and a salted caramel sundae. We both found the gelato very flavourful and had a great texture. We will be keeping an eye out for future specials! There is some street parking available. Close to St. Clair street car. This is some of the best ice cream of the city. They have new gelato & soft serve flavors weekly (usually 2-3) using seasonal ingredients. They also bring back popular past flavors and have a menu of fairly consistent ice cream bars and sundaes. There is a line during peak times but they work through it pretty quickly and it's worth the wait. My favorites regular menu items are the pistachio bar and the sour cherry sundae. However I do like trying their weekly twist of two new flavors usually. They are cash only so in good conscience I cannot give a full 5 stars as the customer experience of having to get cash to come here is a bit annoying. This is an influencer foodie's dream! It's literally a window in a wall, off a Main Street. You won't know it's there unless you've done your research...and yes, I did my research. This place (pronounced bar ah-pay) changes its flavours weekly based on what Ontario fruit is in season mixed with something sweeter. This week it was peaches and sweet cream (which you can have separately or a twist). The peach flavour was not too sweet (almost tart) but it was balanced nicely by the cream. Probably some of the smoothest soft serve I've ever had. They also had a malt flavour that tasted like a Wendy's frosty. It was great for kids. It's limited options but that's part of the experience with this place. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with some of the other seasonal produce coming up. It's a one-person show behind the counter (with another staff in the back) but despite the crowds things moved quickly. Cash only and expect to see a lot of people taking pictures of their soft serve for social media. Parking is easy. Just be warned in the late summer there are a moderate amount of bees around. I also enjoyed the gelato being in soft serve form which isn't a norm. $6 is a fair price but unfortunately is cash only which (fortunately?) make it $6 flat. It is a small takeout window with a few options to sit outside. Great treat on a warm summer night if you can handle waiting in line for 20 mins. One of the few things my partner and I weren't a fan of was not trying the gelato before purchase like other places. Had we were able to try the brown butter my partner wouldn't have ordered a swirl. I opted for the fudge sundae, which is a menu mainstay while my friends opted for the week's special soft serve flavour. I commend Bar Ape for the unique flavour combinations, definitely get the mix because the flavours do blend very well together. I wasn't blown away by my sundae, the fior di latte ice cream was very subtle and not too sweet while the fudge was silky and also not too sweet. I have been waiting to try this gelato shop for a while after hearing good things from many other local foodies. I was able to visit Bar Ape this afternoon right when they opened on Sat. I opted to get the twist flavour (which was passion fruit and guava). There wasn't a line when I arrived but there were a lot of people outside the store enjoying their treats. Staff were friendly and efficient. The gelato was delicious and not overly sweet. The gelato flavour combination I got was extremely tropical and perfect for a hot summer day. The flavours of both the guava and passion fruit went well together. I finished my gelato so quickly that I debated getting another one! Overall, great gelato and unique flavours. TLDR - it was raining and it was the best time to eat this! I love the hazelnut and raspberry gelato bars! I was surprised with how high the quality is, especially the gelato bars. The inside of the bar is creamy like real gelato, and not hard like your typical ice cream bar. I finally visited Bar Ape after hearing about them for years and it definitely lived up to the hype. I went on a weekend afternoon and luckily the line wasn't too long and moved very quickly. We got the black sesame soft serve, yuzu soft serve, and coconut almond bar. The soft serve was heavenly. I've had black sesame soft serve in the past, but the one here was far more rich and smooth. The yuzu one was mind-blowing. I never knew yuzu ice cream would be this good! The coconut bar was good too, but the soft serve stood out more. They change their offerings every week, and this week we got to try the Pomegranate/Pistachio. I honestly liked the flavours better separate. As the pomegranate was very tart, sweet and sour and the pistachio was very creamy and nutty, I felt they didn't work that well together. I ate the swirls separately and enjoyed it much more. I felt like their previous combos such as mint/chocolate and chocolate/strawberry sounded a lot more complementing. A staple gelato bar you must visit every summer time. I have only begun trying their concoctions since 2018 and wish I had visited sooner. Food: I gravitate towards the soft serves and usually get the twist. Their feature menu items change each week (from Wednesday to Monday). The individual soft serve flavours are intentionally picked so that they would complement each other if you decide to want the best of both worlds. Vanilla bean and mango: By far my favourite. The mango tastes like mango, in between sweet and sour. Rhubarb and Ontario strawberries: Class combination, the rhubarb is nice and tart. I felt like I was transported to a strawberry farm, it packs a punch, tastes like a home made strawberry smoothie, only fresher. Blood orange and milk chocolate: I feel this one melted a bit earlier compared to other soft serves I had. Not bad, the chocolate balanced out the slight tangy bitterness of the blood orange. Atmosphere/service: You can feel the creators/ staff enjoy what they do and put in care and attention when producing that soft serve swirl. Price: Make sure to bring cash, $5 per item. Located in TorontoWe heard such good things about this spot and had to try it out! This cute little ice cream shop only takes cash and is opened Thursday to Sunday. We tried their Tayberry Soft Serve , Sour Cherry & Goat Milk Bar and their Sour Cherry Sundae. We loved their Tayberry Soft Serve! The flavour was refreshing and fruity. It had a soft and smooth texture, and we wish their was more. The Sour Cherry & Goat Milk Bar had a hard chocolate outside and a soft gelato inside. We weren't a huge fan as the bar was quite small and we didn't enjoy this flavour combo as much. The Sour Cherry Sundae came with a vanilla soft serve and Sour Cherry topping. We found the Sour Cherry sweet and enjoyed the creamy vanilla with it. This gelato shop changes their flavours weekly, and we would be delighted to try more.
