We hosted my daughter's 8th birthday party at Sweet Meadow Farm after reading about how amazing their birthday parties were and we were absolutely blown away by our experience. From the ease of the booking process to the day-of execution, the entire process was 10 stars. Hannah and her team went above and beyond (which I now understand is their standard MO.) They effortlessly managed all of our decor, seemlessly and joyfully wrangled 12+ children (and twice as many extremely excited adults.) The experience was educational and extremely interactive (We decorated mini horses! We held/pet so many incredible animals! The kids rode unicorns!) Even the coloring pages had our daughter's name printed on them. There was not one aspect of the day that felt like an after thought. The attention to detail and the care they show is so amazing. Every single person who came was raving about the party and how much fun their kids had meeting all the animals. Our party was 10:00-11:30am and in that window they all got to feed the cows, goats, pigs, and put bows on the little horses before going upstairs to meet the turtle, bunnies, lizards, gerbils, and more! My husband and I added on the pizza for convenience and the staff handled and set up everything including the snacks, drinks, cake and all the decorations we brought with us!! Stopped in a couple minutes before 6 pm on a Thursday to pick up some hay for my two rabbits. I felt bad because I know they close at 6 pm but the door was still open and the young woman who greeted me was happy and friendly.. didn't mind I was coming in that close to closing. I just needed a couple bags of hay anyway, but it was nice because the people that work here are always pleasant when I've stopped in. The particular hay I purchase (Herbs & Timothy) was not on the shelf so she went to check and a couple of guys that work there were freshly bagging some more. The reason why I'm giving Sweet Meadow Farm 5 stars is the simple fact that my rabbit LOVES their hay. I first found out about their brand of hay when I was walking through Klem's in Spencer. I'd be buying super small bags of hay for around $7-$8 each. That was until I found out they actually had their farm in Massachusetts! Now I buy a huge box for around $23 and it lasts her 6 months. I recently went there because they also had my Coast of Maine Bar Harbor potting soil in stock. An added bonus is it's the cheapest I've seen compared to anywhere else...I did my research since it's not the cheapest soil to begin with. The only thing I'd have to say is I wish they didn't sell small animals. The cages they provide for them are very small. I'm sure they are taken very good care of but every time I come back, I hope they have more room and they don't. Overall, I am happy to come here and support a small business because they make my rabbit very happy with the hay they grow! read more

Sweet Meadow is a gorgeous and super well run farm that's also a educational facility. The family that owns it are down to earth and the staff are top notch. It's a great place to go for great quality animal feed, and their events and seasonal activities are such a great time, whether is Halloween for hayrides and candy, or pictures with Santa and the horses for Christmas. They do have camps and classes for kids but since I don't have any kids I think it's an awesome thing that they have happy hour for ADULTS! I have gone twice now and let me tell you, if you don't want to eat pizza drink a beer and play with so many animals then this is the wrong place for you. And you also should stay home because nobody needs to hear you being opposed to the three best things in life.... Pizza, puppies, and beer. I'll just end on that note. read more

My little Bugsy refuses to let me buy anything but this. I used to give him Kaytee hay from Petco, Petsmart, etc and he barely touched it. In 2008, I posted a review to Amazon about a bad experience purchasing hay from this place. Al has continually insisted his hay is perfect and no one has any complaints! He has posted repeated responses to my original complaint, insisting there was never a problem! If you get bad hay, just look on Amazon. There are repeated reviews about hay with MOLD, BUGS, DUST and MOTHS!! I'm including my original review below: This is the WORST place to get hay! Yes, worse than Petco. I bought hay from them online. $16.99 for the hay, and nearly $30 for shipping. Sounds like an okay price for 25 lbs, right? Well, if you like dusty, moldy hay, step right on up! My rabbit won't touch the garbage I purchased from this company!!! I have bought from other companies (including Oxbow and American Pet Diner, as well as the local "big boys" (PetsMart and Petco)). Never have I seen hay this thin, dirty and disgusting. Even Kaytee is better than this junk! The man (Al) is very unprofessional. He boasts on his site that "If you are not completely satisfied with your order, we will gladly issue a replacement or refund." Yet that refund did not include the most expensive portion, the shipping! What a ripoff! I have 25 lbs of worthless "hay" to junk, and I have to pay $30 for the privilege of that? DO NOT BUY! My rabbits refuse to eat any other brand of hay! Other hay is dusty, ancient, and not a lot of fun to eat. Sweet Meadow Hay looks and smells delicious, and my rabbits have a lot of fun eating the long strands of grass. Definitely an awesome place! Although they don't really have their own retail "store", you can contact them directly and get that cheaper price instead of buying their products at local pet stores. If you make an appointment with them like I did, you can ask for a peek at the other animals. The mother of the family (can't remember her name) does wildlife education programs at local schools and such. There are alot of unusual critters on the farm. Check out the pictures on their website. When I was there, I remember being dumbfound that they had a pet reindeer and a tame crow (who insisted on untying my shoelaces)! The price of hay and pellets is unbeatable and is definitely of high quality. Call first, but if you get there and someone isn't around to help you, there's a whole section of their garage that's stocked with their basic hay, feed and treats. When I was there last, there was an honesty policy where you placed your payment in a box, noting what you bought. I'm sure as their products become more recognized and their farm grows they will no longer allow individuals to buy directly from the farm. But in the meantime, you can forego the mark ups of retail shops and contact them directly. They're a wonderful family and big time animal lovers! read more

So I had to write an update to review the actual farm and the people who work there. I would drive out to Natick to Pet World to get the hay when it turns out that all I had to do was drive an extra few miles and go directly to the source. I have cut out the middle man (sorry Pet World) and I feel better getting to see the people who run SMF. They have a great set up where they run an honor system store where if you are not there you can leave cash or a check. I have been there when the staff is there and when they are not. They are so helpful!!! I typically go to get hay, papaya, litter, rabbit pellets, and eggs so my arms can get really full and they always help me get everything to my car. As a result my buns are well fed and happy!! read more

Sweet Meadow Farms has been a GOD SENT ! I have 4 guinea pigs and as you can guess they go through A LOT of food and hay ! You can order bulk feed (their own formula) and hay online and pick it up at the farm or have it shipped right to your door! A 33lbs box of hay lasts me about 5 months and only costs $25 ! Grab yourself a dog food air tight container and buy a 50lbs bag of feed (lasts me 7 months) and again for around $25 ! My girls love it all ! My favorite part about the hay (aside from the amazing quality and unbeatable price) is that it comes in a box with a bag of hay inside which makes for a hassle, mess free way to store, it also comes in handy when I fill the girls hay rack, I just take it out of their cage and fill it right inside the box, no hay falling from point A to Point B and making a mess inside their cage as I stuff it in the rack !!! Before I found SMF I was buying commercial food from Petsmart and even with my discount (I worked for them) I was spending $20 at least every 2 weeks and my girls didn't even like the stuff as much as they love SMF products !! SMF also sells food and hay in smaller batches as well (if you don't need a ton like I do) and the prices are still better than I've seen in stores (although I would pick up at the stand unless you plan on buying a lot, shipping will obviously bring your costs up) Haven't bought or used SMF for anything else but I follow them on facebook and they look like they have a ton of fun family and kids activities ! read more

Best 7 year old birthday party for a true animal lover and her 9 pals. We cannot thank Julie and her team enough for such a wonderful afternoon. The three young ladies who ran the party were friendly, professional, smart, and clearly loved the animals. They knew the routine and when things changed a little bit, were able to pivot and work together as a team to make sure everything ran smoothly and the kids had a great time! Everything from the attitude the staff displayed, the cleanliness of the facilities, the clearly happy and well taken care of animals, the variety of activities available makes this place a real gem and worth every penny. Before the party our daughter had a short pony ride and we were able to hear two young girls getting their riding lesson. The instructor was so knowledgable and attentive to the riders. She didn't take her eyes off them for a second and was intent on teaching in a way that made it clear she loved it. I've been getting Sweet Meadow Farm products shipped home for my rabbit for the past 5 years and the service has only been getting better and better. For a minor cost, I'm able to purchase a bulk box of fine-bladed meadow grass that is fedex-ed within a few days to my doorstep. A 9lb bulk box lasts for at least full season with my 6lb mini lop, and it keeps looking green and fresh-smelling the whole time. My rabbit also eats most of what I give him in a day. This cuts out the waste since he's not picking out the larger, thicker blades and discarding them aside like he used to. Treats and rabbit pellets here are highly recommended - you can buy in bulk and store them in air-tight containers until you need them. Compared to hay from Agway, Animal Farms- Petland Discounts, and Oxbow brand hay, Sweet Meadows has been the best by far! read more

I am laughing at Nicole S.'s review right now. My rabbits do the same thing when I run out of the SMF hay and have to resort last-minute to Kaytee - they are NOT pleased! My rabbits absolutely love the SMF first cut timothy hay. When I refresh their litterbox, they go wild, like it's an amazing treat. They also like the orchard grass and the botanical blend hay. They miss the oat hay - I haven't seen that offered in awhile. I was getting my hay through my local pet store, but they were marking it up so much I found it cheaper to order it on line and pay the Fed Ex postage. If you ship it to a business address, it's not very unreasonable, and the money goes straight to the owners of SMF. Please, SMF, keep up the good work, my bunnies are hay snobs and your hay is the finest! My Siamese cat even loves it - though, grossly, he likes his marinated (in fine bunny pee)! read more

My daughter discovered that she saved a bundle by buying it right from the farm. Now I have a bunny and she loves Sweet Meadow too. I find that even though the shipping seems high, it is a HUGE bargain over smaller bags at pet stores ( and now the store that sold SM up here is out of business). My guinea pigs love their pellets! I once had to get them the kaytee brand and they wouldn't eat it. They would fill up on hay and leave the pellets untouched. I think that goes to show the quality right there. Their hay is also much better than store brands. It's so fragrant! I love the "Sweet Meadow Hay" it's soft and it really smells good. I usually buy that and the first cut timothy and switch it off every other day. Their dried fruit is also good, but the "fruit mix" is mostly raisins, which isn't the best thing you can feed your piggers. I would opt for buying the banana bag instead of the mix. read more

Honestly the worst experience I've ever had. First time writing a yelp review as well. No one ever even greeted us when we arrived for lessons. EVERYTIME. They talked in the room next to us and treated me and my daughter as if we didn't even exist. My daughter is four and was super excited, only to be greeted as if it was an annoyance to them. They never even introduced themselves to me at all or her prior to anything. Then acted as if she should know what to do and just follow them out into arena. I would also like to add I grew up on my grandmothers horse farm and own my own customer service based business. So not like I don't have any experience in these situations. The way they treat their clients is unacceptable. I would NOT RECOMMEND bringing your kids here for lessons at all. I feel so bad that this is my daughter's first experience with such a wonderful thing as horse back riding. And as I watched the lesson I could hear they way she spoke to my daughter with an annoyed Response. They shouldn't offer classes to young kids if they don't want to do them. I have been to Happy Hour on the farm and I have to tell you, best time EVER! Julie, our host, was knowledgeable, fun and gracious. Downstairs had a large table for everyone to eat, HUGE goldfish and a bird room.The room has doves, quails, ducks, chickens and TONS more. Make sure you get a snuggle from Friendly Chicken! Upstairs has a huge TV, hair hockey and couch. Also upstairs is where you will find my personal favorite, the ferret! Unfortunately my two elder buns recently passed. However, when they were alive I always ordered my products from Sweet Meadow Farm. Like many of the other reviewers, I tried the cheaper store products as well as Oxbow. Oxbow is good, but nothing like SMF's! The fragrance that emanated from the hay was incredible. As soon as I opened the hay bin, the bunnies would start running around each other in circles in anticipation. They also really enjoyed the pellets I purchased. RABBIT BUYER BEWARE! I've went to Sweet Meadow Farm once every 10 years since 1998 to buy one of their baby dwarf and mini lop rabbits. The last 2 times were very good experiences. We had 2 sweet and adorable male rabbits. When our 2nd. rabbit passed away from old age on Aug. 19, 2017, My family and I had planed to return to adopt a 3rd. baby bunny. We went there 6 days later when they told us on the phone they had 2 "healthy" 10 week old baby male mini lop eared bunnies available. I chose a beautiful grayish-tan mini lop bunny and named him Bob. All was happy and well with until February of 2018. He soiled himself more frequently and had trouble moving his back legs. We took him to the vet and sadly announced that he had a pinched nerve in his left leg. We gave him medicine and prayed he'd get better. Then on March 18, 2018, my poor sweet little Bobby died unexpectedly. He was only 9 months and 5 days old. It was a shock to our family and we were heartbroken and very sad by what happened! Sweet Meadow Farm, if you are reading this YELP review now, PLEASE BE MORE RESPONSIBLE AND TAKE A LOT BETTER CARE OF YOUR RABBITS THAT YOU ARE BREEDING AND DON'T NEGLECT THE BABY BUNNIES!
