We had the absolute pleasure of partnering with Sweet Mother 101 for our Black History Month celebration, and when I say they showed up and SHOWED OUT I mean it! We run a tight operation built on efficiency and strict time constraints, so bringing in any outside vendor requires precision. From the moment they arrived, their team was organized, professional, and ready. They managed to serve all of our employees with a smile, even during peak rush, and kept the energy warm and welcoming the entire time. And the food? Sooooo good. Every single bite. There was truly something for everyone, including our Vegans (which, let's be honest, doesn't always happen). The variety they provided made everyone feel included and excited. That thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed. At one point, we experienced a major influx of people and orders started backing up a bit. Instead of getting flustered, their team quickly tweaked their process, adjusted on the fly, and absolutely knocked it out of the park. Watching them pivot so seamlessly while maintaining top-tier hospitality was impressive. I went to At Ease for trivia night and was excited to see a Nigerian fusion food truck posted up. I absolutely love Nigerian food. There used to be a little spot on Northgate serving authentic Nigerian food, but it unfortunately went out of business during or after Covid, and I haven't been able to fill that craving since. Needless to say, I was excited. I loved that the truck had a screen to order from. It keeps things simple for customers and easy for the workers in the truck. Even then, the workers were fantastic and friendly, the truck itself was nice, and the menu was easy to follow. Good vibes all around. I will say it was a little expensive, but food trucks usually are these days. I also cut them some slack because Nigerian food isn't easy to make. Jollof rice alone can be an all-day affair of stewing. I also won't judge too harshly on authenticity since they label themselves as fusion. That being said, I ordered the bowl, which came with jollof rice (a $2 upgrade, understandable), spiced chicken, fried plantains, a small slaw-style salad, and "sweet mother" sauce. Starting with the jollof rice: absolutely delicious and tasted very authentic. It may have been slightly toned down on spice, but that makes sense for the food truck scene. The chicken was good and had a nice char and seasoning. My only gripe is that there wasn't much chicken at all, probably less than 4 oz. The fried plantains were amazing and one of my favorite parts. Nicely charred, almost bordering on burnt, which I personally like. The slaw-style salad was a nice touch and cut through the richness well, so that was actually a great addition. The sweet mother sauce, while I'm not totally sure what it was, was good but not super memorable. I was maybe expecting more of a peri-peri style sauce, but it did add a small hint of heat, which was nice. I'd definitely grab something from this truck again. At that price point, though, I'd like to see slightly larger protein portions next time and maybe a bit less rice since that made up the bulk of the meal. Hmm. I've never had Nigerian food before and the menu sounded appetizing. I thought I'll give it a go. Glad I did! Sure dug my chicken rice bowl which wasn't served in a bowl, more of a rectangular sized to go container. So just saying that because it was a bigger serving size than I was thinking it would be. Step 1 Pick your choice of rice bowl, loaded fries, or wrap (pita). If you pick the rice bowl, you can upgrade to jollof rice for an extra charge. Step 2 Pick your protein. Chicken, steak, and akara which is vegan frittered black eye peas. Step 3 Sauce it up. Pick your sauce. There are four kinds. I chose the chicken rice bowl with the Sweet Mother sauce. The sauce is sweet n savory. Totally delicious. The chicken is thigh meat with a spice rub. It was delicious as well. It had a nice smoky flavor. Tender. The bowl came with slaw and sweet plantains. The slaw was a bit boring flavor wise, but had a nice fresh crunch. The plantains were grilled to gorgeous caramelized color. What an unexpected food experience at Movement Brewery in Rancho Cordova. It was supposed to be a quick drink and bounce, but ended up drinking more, so of course the munchies kicked in. First time hearing about Sweet Mother 101 food truck and my first time trying Nigerian fusion food. I got the chicken wrap with the hilarious sauce name 'I Want Problem'. I love me spicy and this delivered. It really gave me a problem. They didn't skimp out on the ingredients. There was plenty of filling that one wrap was enough to satisfy my slightly buzzed hunger. The flavor was really nice from their warm spice rub, the sweetness from the plantains and the ever so powerful problem sauce. Really enjoyed the pita as well. It was warm, soft and kept the ingredients together as I devoured the wrap. I'm intrigued by their other menu items. I def want to try their rice bowl with jollof rice and of course the kid in me wants to try their loaded fries. I'm happy they are on my radar. Good food, good staff. I ordered the loaded fries with steak and the honey pepper and sweet mother sauces. Everything in that flavor wise dish came together perfectly. The plantains were a nice touch. They do tablet ordering and you can pay with card on the tablet or pay cash when your food is ready. We ordered the rice bowl ($20) and upgraded to Jollof Rice (+$2) it was well worth the extra $2 for this flavorful rice! We chose chicken thigh as our protein and their Sweet Mother (savory and rich) sauce. My husband and I split the plate and it was a good amount of food. We felt like the $22 was reasonable for a festival, but if we got this outside of a festival I'd probably want a bit more protein for the price. However, it was so so tasty! The chicken was well cooked and seasoned, the sauce was delicious and the rice paired perfectly with it. The food took a bit from ordering to receiving it, but it came out fresh and hot. What a delight to find something new and flavorful at a food truck! I got the chicken pita with the curry ranch sauce and savored every bite! I wouldn't really call it a ranch sauce though. The rice was absolute perfection. The chicken was good. The sauce was new to me. It had a little heat (I'm a wimp) and it reminded me of a red enchilada sauce mixed with curry. The bowl included Cole slaw, which I usually hate. But this was great! It also had a curry flavor to it which was very nice. The rice bowl also came with two chunks of sweet fried plantain. God I love plantains, and these were great. Next time I'll try a different sauce. The Sweet Mother was ok, but I think I might like the Curry Ranch sauce more. The poor man on the truck was working solo so it was a bit of a wait, but he kept his attitude positive and boy was it worth the wait! The Jollof rice was very flavorful on it's own. The plantains were wonderful and I don't usually prefer them. I also don't usually prefer cole slaw, but the curry they add to the dressing takes it to the bext level!
