My daughter and I took a road trip to the Dutchman store in Cantril. She found this place on yelp. It was 40 minutes out of our way but we decided to try it. The owner took our order and answered a few questions about the menu. There was another patron eating who chatted with us while we waited. Everyone was friendly and the vibe was good. Our food came out promptly and the owner brought us several homemade BBQ sauces to try. I had the brisket platter and everything was amazing! Great flavor and sauces were so good! My favorite was his mustard sauce. My daughter had the Burnt end platter. I only tried the Ends and they were fantastic! That's what I'm getting next time. I cannot figure out why this place is not busier than what I see when I come? Have been here several times and never a struggle to find a seat. The greeting is friendly. The suggestions they make are great. The BBQ itself and sides and moist, flavor filled and cooked perfectly. Burnt ends and shredded pork are great choices. Great food. Ambience? Rough hewn wood plank walls, Red/white checkered vinyl tablecloth, and a great display of license plates on one wall. , Family owned and operated restaurant. They really care about and depend on the local community... A small town mostly a mix of academic and agriculture. Politics aside, the patriarch is very congenial and his kids provide great service. If you looking for simple but tasty bbq then this is the place in Fairfield. Offering all the basics including some great waffle fries. The decor is eclectic. Staff in my experience friendly and always willing to talk the menu through with you with some pride. They have over five excellent home made sauces. Walked in the door and was immediately greeted and given direction to place an order at the counter. Cashier was very nice and helpful in aiding my meal decision. I got my drink and within 2 minutes my food was in front of me. I really enjoyed the two sandwiches I got and all of the bbq sauces tasted pretty good. My two complaints would be that the macaroni wasn't exactly as fresh as I would have liked (looked like it had been sitting on the grill to keep warm) and the amount of flies roaming around the restaurant and my food. I hope that the owner can fix the fly problem because I would really like to come back and order a meat plate instead of the sandwiches. I would recommend this place to a friend, there are a lot of good options on the menu for anyone that enjoys a good bbq. read more

Love the license plates on the wall! Menu on the blackboard and you order before you sit down. All sorts of smoked meats and incredible sides with cornbread to order from. Ordered the brisket platter with mac n cheese and cheesy taters $10.99. What a deal! It came out quickly and was nice and hot. Great smokey flavor!! Lots of take out orders and only a couple tables occupied. 5 different sauces on the table along with a roll of paper towels. Pumpkins and gourds decorated the restaurant, simple and understated. No beer, not byob but you can take your food next door to the bar . . . Ok. Good portion of food, very satisfying and delicious. Good platter, just the right ampunt of food served quickly and hot. Not the greatest or the worst. I got the brisket sandwich for 8 dollars today and it wasn't what I expected. I expected strips of brisket piled on a bun but it was chunks. Now to me a brisket should have a nice smoke ring and a good bark with just a little resistance when you take a bite. This had none of those features. It has no ring, it was wet and fell apart just looking at it, and it taste like chunked up roast. Previously I had gotten the burnt ends twice. The first time they were burnt ends with no question in mind, but the 2nd time it was again like eating pot roast... I don't know if I can go back for a 3rd expensive disappointment. read more

Good BBQ here in the unique town of Fairfield. You can see the smoker working when you walk in the front door. Nice to smell the lovely wood aroma that comes with making BBQ. Had the brisket and pork, both were delicious, I think it needs just a bit more smoke flavor in my opinion, but it is good BBQ. Sides are very good, had their delicious fries and Mac n cheese was awesome as well. They have a few different sauces to try, I like the buffalo and the extra spicy. We decided to try this place while visiting the Fairfield area, almost missed it because it is hard to see from the street. Fortunately my son spotted the BBQ sign they had out. Walking up we saw the smoker out front so we were hopeful it would be good. The man who owns the place was very friendly and told us he smokes all his own meat. Found this place based on reviews as I'm often driving through this part of the state on my way to visit relatives. Delightful hole-in-the-wall kind of place that obviously really cares about barbeque. Forget fancy decor - it's about the food and the passion of those who cook it, and that's what you get here. First visit, they had meatloaf as the special and it was amazing - the best meatloaf is at places where they smoke meat. I've also tried the tenderloin - actually tender and very flavorful. The baked beans are some of the best I've had - with a variety of bean types and a perfect sauce. Plan on stopping here whenever I drive through. Look forward to trying a lot more things. read more

Prices are incredibly reasonable, mac and cheese was surprisingly awesome. (I rarely order it out as I'd like to think I make it better than anywhere I've had) and their sauces are downright delicious. I had the pulled chicken with a regular side of M&C for less than $7 (great prices!)
