For the people out there that like places such as Cold Stone Creamery, Bruster's is even better in my opinion. The staff is usually friendly and helpful in helping customers make a decision. They will let you sample any flavor if you want to try one. As for the ice cream, it is smooth, rich, and delicious and comes in a variety of unique flavors. They have all the staples including chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, but the rotating-unique flavors are where the real fun is. I am a fan of the chocolate mudslide and the cappuccino and my wife likes anything loaded with chocolate and peanut butter. Most of the time, I order a milkshake, but sometimes there is nothing like the hot and cold combination of cinnamon-vanilla ice cream on an apple dumpling. It is important to note that Bruster's is an outdoor counter-service ice cream shop and the lines can get long during peak season, but the wait is worth it. There is some limited seating to the side of the building featuring red benches and umbrellaed tables. All of these features make this place an ideal summertime stop. The next time you are looking for quality ice cream, be sure to give Bruster's a try.

It is a basically 100% dairy operation so if you are seeking non-dairy ice cream then Blue Cow is a better destination (despite the name). However, if you want a full flavored dairy ice cream, this place delivers. I was a little miffed that their flavors had a Virginia Tech tinge, which is not my affiliation, but the Hokie Berry was a delicious flavor and their mint chip was strong. There isn't a whole lot else immediately around, but this shop was reasonably busy.

The Down Home Creamery is located in a small, modern, red brick, business building on 116 S Poplar Street in Vinton, not too far from the Vinton Library. As one enters the glass doors of the creamery, the decor is modern black and white with accent wood and light color hardwood floors. The place is very clean and well maintained and has a freezer with 24 flavors of ice cream right as you enter and covered with very clean and clear glass doors for one to see and appreciate the different flavors available. It also has many bottles filled with toppings, as well as a variety of Waffle cones and bowls. The atmosphere is very relaxed with fresh air circulation that make you feel comfortable when ordering and eating your ice cream. There was a young lady attendant who greeted me with a smile and took my order of two scoops of Peanut Butter Ice Cream in a Waffle Bowl. The Waffle was fresh and crispy, while the ice cream had just the right smoothness to bring out its flavor at its best. The young lady attendant spent time cleaning the counter as I ate my ice cream in one of the tables of the place. Two other customers arrived while I was their and they were fascinated by the many flavors that they ordered a scoop of several of them. I really enjoyed the place, the service, and the very creamy ice cream. If any of you are like me, that just love ice cream and eating it in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, I highly recommend this creamery. And as for me, I definitely will be coming here some more from now on and tell others about the place.

Located in…read moreCloverdale, Virginia, it's a family-run business well known in the area for its Hershey's ice cream and Nathan's hot dogs. But besides these two items, it's menu has expanded and now includes a delicious pork barbecue, sausage hoagies, and grilled cheese sandwiches. They offer window service and have reasantly started accepting credit cards in addition to cash. They now also have a fenced-in little patio with a picnic table and red umbrella to be able to sit down and enjoy your meal there. I arrived there on a hot summer day with temperatures in the 100 degrees. I had just eaten elsewhere, but stopped there to have some ice-cream. The building front was decorated in such a way that immediately captured the attention of anyone driving by, and so it did to me. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its delicious offerings. After approaching the window, a friendly older lady opened it up and gave me a warm welcome. She told me they did not have a printed menu yet but all around the window there were posted menus of what they had. It was so hot that I decided to go with a Strawberry Milkshake, because with this heat any ice cream would melt quickly. While the owner prepared my milkshake a lady customer of the place arrived and we established conversation. She ended up being a relative of the owner of Brood Restaurant in Salem, Virginia. One of the last restaurants that I had written a Yelp review and was being featured in the app together with one of my photographs. She was delighted with by review just by reading the first few sentences and took a picture of it on my phone with her phone. What a small world I thought to myself. She suggested that next time I should try their pork barbecue. Another customer was also having the pork barbecue and also recommended it. When my milkshake was ready, I started drinking it with a thin straw the lady gave me, but it was so thick that I recommended she get thicker straws next time, but it was so good that I took the lid off and ended up drinking the cold and delicious milkshake. I highly recommend this ice cream shop and am looking forward to returning to try their now famous pork barbecue and maybe one of their Special Sundaes.

It still maintains it original floors and is clean and very well maintained, although it has that old fashion decor and some of the booths are showing their age by being torn with a split in the middle, as well as some of the furniture behind the counter are showing some wear. With more than 41 flavors of Hershey's Premium ice cream to choose from, and served in Cones and Cups, Sundaes, Banana Splits, Milkshakes, Floats, and a few other forms, you are bound to find a flavor and way of having the ice cream to your taste and enjoyment. Some of the flavors of ice cream were almost to the end of their container and because of this didn't look that fresh, as well as the Waffle cones looked pre-made and because of this were lacking the freshness and smell of having them made right in front of your eyes. They also have a full Deli on the premises with great fresh soups and sandwiches, if your appetite calls for something else before the ice cream. When we arrived on a cold Winter evening, the day after a snowfall, we were warmly greeted by two young ladies behind the counter. They were kind enough to explain a little about the history of the place and then took our orders. My friend had a Waffle Cone with Banana Pudding Ice Cream, and I had a Waffle Cone with Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream. The Cone was fresh and crunchy and the ice cream was flavory and creamy. We sat at one of the tables to enjoy our ice creams while admiring this very nostalgic ice cream parlor. It was quite a unique experience in and of itself. And it seems they do Birthday Parties and Sports Banquets because they had a sign on one of the walls to this effect, as well as Sports League pictures. I went with a friend of mine after visiting the Roanoke Roanoke Antique Mall, which is the largest Antique Store in the area. Two young ladies employees treated us with a smile and took our order behind the counter. They graciously allowed me to try out two flavors that I was undecided on, with tiny Spoons. My friend had a scoop of Bourbon Truffle ice cream in a waffle cone and I had a scoop of Peanut Butter Twist ice cream also in a waffle cone. The waffle cones, although not made in-house, were nice and crispy, and the ice cream was creamy and very tasty. This place clearly serves an important role in this community and brings lots of joy to all those who visit it. But this Sweet Frog Pemium Frozen Yogurt located at 1339 Towne Square Blvd in Roanoke, Virginia was one of the best, if not the best, Frozen Yogurt places that I have ever been. I was very much impressed by the amazing interior design and decor of the store, by the extraordinary selection of Yogurt flavors, by the huge variety of toppings available, and most of all, by the friendly and welcoming customer service. When I arrived a young lady employee greeted me with a big welcoming smile and asked if this was my first time visiting the store. When I answered in the affirmative, she took me for a tour of the store that also explained how the Yogurt is served by you in any of the different size of bowls. You then could ask for any of the toppings which the employee will serve with plastic gloves on. And finally, they weigh your cup of icecream and you are charged by the pound. Then you pay and take your cup to one of the white tables in the colorful dining area, where you can amazingly enjoy as you share some quality time with your family and friends. While I was there, many customers visited the place, a father and son, a mother and daughter, and a young group of 4 young girls, among others. One could clearly see that this small local business was very much loved in this community. Definitely, I highly recommend this Premium Frozen Yogurt parlor to all. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to find a Latin American Restaurant and Market this good in…read morethis Star City of Roanoke, Virginia. Yet during the first half of Hispanic Heritage Month this year, I so happened to discover this hidden gem of a restaurant and Roanoke's Best Kept Secret! After being awarded the Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And the Super Amanecer Restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. It's interesting what led me to this restaurant in the first place. I was talking with a Salvadorian young lady who's very kind and hardworking mother raised 7 children of her own in this country; and she told me that whenever she wants to treat her mother out to eat and asks her where she would like to go, her answer is always: "Al Super Amanecer." Located in Town Square Shopping Mall, a strip mall in Northwest Roanoke, Virginia, featuring a variety of shops, restaurants and other establishments, the Gran Amanecer II Restaurant and Market offers a diverse selection of Latin America comfort foods in a casual and relaxing environment. It has an ample parking lot, where many Hispanics gather in the late afternoon to socialize with their families and friends after work while enjoying some comfort food like pupusas or tamales, or tropical flavor ice-creams in or around their cars. Inside the Restaurant / Market is like another world. They are separated by an entryway and both the restaurant and market have the largest variety of Latin American food than any other place in Roanoke, Virginia. When I entered the restaurant, I was greatly impressed with its cleanliness, simple decor, cozy ambiance, and extensive menu. A friendly young lady greated me at the Host's station and after finding out that I spoke Spanish, asked me where I wanted to sit. I sat at a booth next to the window and then moved to a table because the sun was getting in my eyes. The menu had a great variety of Latin American dishes from places like Mexico, El Salvador, Argentina, and Honduras, among other places. To drink I ordered a Maracuya (Passion Fruit) drink. And as my main entrée I order their Parrillada. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food. This dish included chicken, steak, shrimps, 2 chorizos, lime, avocado, roasted jalapeño, rice, refried beans, and pico de gallo. All the meats were quality and cooked to perfection in such a way that it brought out their flavor. For the Grand Finale of this exquisite meal I had Churros with a scoop of ice-cream. They were amazingly delicious though a bit overcooked, thus too crunchy, and lacked the sugar on top, but were decorated so amazingly well, with chocolate and caramel syrup and a cherry, that I enjoyed eating them. Afterwards I went to visit their Supermarket and it too was the greatest thing I've ever seen in Latin American Markets. It had hard to find product at your fingertips, and others you didn't even know they existed. In the back they even had their very own meat department with the meats in the display cases looking tender and fresh In conclusion I highly recommend this restaurant and market for their variety of quality food and products cooked extremely well, and served by friendly staff providing excellent customer service, and an extraordinary dining experience.
