For our last night of our stay in Roanoke we wanted to have a special dinner at a local restaurant. I am really glad we found Hollywood's. Debbie, our waitress was fantastic. Great stories and excellent service. I had the Catfish Matrimony, my wife had the Club, and the rest had the half rack of ribs, filet and meatloaf sandwich. The portions were huge. The Catfish was fresh and cooked perfectly. The half rack of ribs was a large portion of very meaty, tasty and tender ribs. The meatloaf sandwich had enough meatloaf for another meal. The filet was great and my wife loved her club sandwich. We were all so full, we had to take dessert to go. The carrot cake cake was great. Hollywood's is one of those hidden gems you might miss if a local doesn't point it out. I was invited here by someone who lives in the area for a work meeting, and it turned out to be a great spot. Even though the place was packed, the service was still excellent...friendly, attentive, and never rushed.The food is classic comfort done right. It's not fancy, but that's exactly the appeal. In town to meet friends and had Hollywood's on my yelp list for years. Seemed like a spot that had something for everyone so we headed over for dinner with 4 adults and two kids under 12. We had a fabulous time. Our server was so much fun and clearly enjoyed working there. The food was stupendous, from the Blue Cheese chips starter to all the entrees: snapper special, chicken and shrimp pasta special, quesadilla kids meal, the Cajun meatloaf...but the pork tacos were the standout of the night. They were unreal. My son found the super cool map and said " I wanted to put a pin in Virginia, but there was no space. The entire East Coast is covered!" My wife and I stopped here on the way home from South Carolina to Boston. When we first saw the restaurant from the outside, it was not anything exciting but I reminded us that you can't judge a book by its cover. I'm so glad we went inside and ate. I had the absolute best shrimp and grits I've ever had in my life. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, especially for us northerners. We stopped at The Hollywood as we were traveling through Virginia. The staff were very friendly and welcoming with pleasant efficient service. Had a great, not too expensive meal here. Ribs were tasty and very tender. Not super flavorful or overly salted (some places go overboard on both) but very good, and sauces to go with them were great. They do a thin sweet and sour style BBQ sauce that goes well with the meat. Blue cheese grits were good. Other types looked good. Fried oysters were crispy. Salads were good. The coconut chicken (like coconut shrimp) seemed good but was not quite what we expected or wanted. Coconut cake was about what you'd expect - white cake with coconut in white icing. My family liked it more than I did. I'm used to the cake with more of a toasted coconut flavor and texture and a bit less sweetness. It is probably a regional thing. Again - good cake that the family liked. A solid meal and we'd be happy to return when in the area. read more

This place came highly recommended by the locals while I was visiting so I decided to give it a try! It was very busy when I arrived on a Thursday night so I sat at the bar since it was just me. Staff was very busy so service was a bit slow but friendly! I got a fresh roll to start and it was delicious. I was deciding between a steak or the coconut breaded chicken tenders. I opted for the chicken because I've never seen anything like it on a menu before. It ended up being okay, I wish either the coconut flakes were bigger or the coconut flavor was a bit stronger. They were a little over cooked so that might have contributed to the lack of coconut flavor. I got a brownie to go for dessert and that was delicious! If I'm back in town again, I'll definitely give this place another try! read more

Just had lunch here. So delicious!! Had the grilled chicken cobb salad. Chicken was hot and freshly grilled! Salad was fresh and sooo good. Comes with a big piece of homemade bread and whip butter . I've been meaning to visit here for a few months now when I've been in the area for work, and today I finally did! I've been eyeing the coconut chicken, I will admit they didn't taste as amazing as I envisioned but it was still pretty good! The chicken lacked flavor but luckily they know what they're doing complimenting it with the honey mustard. They even let you sub the coleslaw for any other side, which was great for me since I despise coleslaw lol. I got the fruit instead which only constituted of cantaloupe & one pineapple but I can't complain because they didn't up-charge for it. The fries were tasty as well. I also topped it off with the lemon bar (I got to go bc I was so stuffed) bit it was divine! Overall, it was a cute & quaint place that was beloved by the locals! The staff were all really friendly & the service was great. I got my food quicker than I would've ever imagined! Wonderful meal, staff, and ambiance. I was on a business trip and looked up places near me and boy was I not disappointed!

This is a hidden gem in Roanoke. We stayed overnight at a hotel just off I 81. The desk clerk recommended it. All their breads, cakes, and brownies are made from scratch in their kitchen. My wife had a Hollywood Club sandwich on fresh sourdough, accompanied by fresh cut potato chips that were crispy and crunchy. I had a classic Reuben on rye bread with fresh cut sweet potato fries. Everything about the meal was outstanding, including the friendly and bustling wait staff. It has a great relaxing diner atmosphere that includes locals and folks passing through like us. If ever you're in Roanoke Virginia, you need to check them out! You won't be disappointed. read more

Passing through Roanoke, VA and found this on Yelp. Parking lot was packed (Monday evening) and we had 3 groups in front of us. Wowzer were these servers hustling! We waited less than 10 minutes. While we waited, we perused their bakery case and bread rack. Yum! The decor is rustic and the atmosphere friendly. The menu is diverse! Starters, salads, sandwiches & wraps (homemade bread), and entrees. Half a dozen vegetarian sandwich options. I ordered the Coco Loco Chicken tenders Salad, and my partner ordered the Chicken Salad scoop with fresh fruits and a side salad. We were brought a bread service while waiting for our salads. This was a really good find for dinner during a road trip. The service was very warm and friendly, and attentive as well. The place is casual and comfortable, and everything was clean and well looked after. I had the Cajun Meatloaf, which was good but not amazing. I was expecting a bit more flavor and perhaps some spice. I enjoyed it, but I had expected it to be much better. My wife had the Classic Chef Salad, which was very good with fresh and tasty ingredients. The service here really hit the spot, and it felt like a little hidden gem that only the locals know about. Fabulous find! The white bean chicken chili nachos sounded so unusual & let me tell you they were outstanding! I had the Catfish Matrimony and it was off the charts good !!! Hubby had the Fried oysters & for that oyster expert they had too much batter. BUT if I lived here this would be my star place. You need to try this. What a great placed in Hollins ! Went with my father and husband last night. Service is exceptional and people have great attitudes working here. My dad had the meatloaf, my husband had the cranberry salmon and I had crab cakes. All entrees were very tasty and good serving size and none of us could finish our meal! We were passing through and decided to stop at this place our son told us about. We were seated right away and ordered. I ordered the Cranberry Salmon and my wife ordered the chicken quesadilla. Our dinners were out in just a few minutes. I was very pleased with the Salmon- it was served over sweet potatoes with a chutney and topped with cranberries for a cornucopia of flavors. We are local regulars to Hollywoods. The staff know us and greet us warmly whenever we hit the door. They'll even bring our regular drinks to the talk as they ALL know us. The food is always good! I can't have gluten, so I'll order the ghost pepper chicken sandwich without bread and it's so tasty. My husband loves the Route 11 burger! Here for a Mission Camp and came highly recommended. Very accommodating for a large group (18) and put us in the back room as requested. Service was friendly and fast. I got the daily special of blackened cod tacos with sweet potato fries. It was good, but would have liked a bit more "stuffing" of cod for the tacos. Prices were in the medium range. read more
