I was introduced to this all woman's workout class Saturday morning through Eventbrite.com. It was a little tricky finding it since my GPS took me to the front of Hmart as opposed to around the corner from it under the underpass where the actual 2nd floor front entrance is. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. There's a whole array of boxing gear some of which I was familiar with from prior experiences. We did a few circuit training workouts which was fun but tough especially as they did not have air conditioning on this particularly warm day. Well, after 3 months of my 14 year old son going in to X3 Boxing Inman Park everday he decided he actually wanted to spar. So I looked up (googled) best boxing gyms in Atlanta and next to X3 saw Sweet Science. We took a trip to see what it was like and leet me tell you...you can train all you want like he did at X3 but here THEY BOX! The owner Marty is actually here in the ring giving honest hard feedback and its a smaller setting so he knows EVERYONE that walks through the door. Its the next step up if youre ready to get your child or yourself sparring. X3 is amazing but once you feel fit enough you eventually want to get in the ring! They have an actual official ring in the gym with oother machines and areeas to work out in. I recommend at least going in to see what it has to offer. My son loves it! read more

Sweet Science Boxing Club - Got my gloves ready!!! - Gyms Near Me - Norcross, Georgia

I first came here because of a Yelp event, where we could come and try out a boxing class. I had so much fun doing that, when I saw Groupon advertising their services, I purchased it and also convinced a friend to do the same. We had to get our own gloves and wraps, and we were good to go. Of course, even though I watched several videos, I was horrible at wrapping my hands, so I got help from an aid. I went to three sessions, and each one was different. The moves varied from spending a lot of time on the bag, moving across the floor against another person, or practicing techniques (though technique is practiced in each session at least a litte). I get the feeling that most of the classes are vastly different from each other. It was important to me that I felt comfortable, both as a beginner who hates feeling incompetent, and as a woman going into a place that is male-dominated. I didn't really feel comfortable to go to the class by myself and had to go with my friend each time, but despite being truly horrible at the formations and not having great stamina, I wasn't embarrassed being there. And afterward? Oh man was I sore. And at the time, I was not in terrible shape. I was exercising 3-5x per week, and after one session, my arms were like jelly. After another session, it was abs and legs. The only reason I chose not to get a gym membership was that I planned on leaving Georgia in a few months, and didn't want to start a regime of something I wouldn't be doing for very long. Otherwise, I absolutely would have joined the gym. Marty is an excellent trainer, as are his aids, and that coupled with the fact that it's a great workout makes this place an awesome place to go to lose some weight, while doing something a little different each week. read more

It's been roughly two weeks since I signed up at Sweet Science Fitness (SSF)...and so far, no regrets! My energy level has increased tremendously and I feel much better about my overall health. Learning how to box has always been a passion of mine but never got around to doing it. Taking the first step out of your comfort zone is always the hardest. When I walked into Sweet Science, I was greeted by Marty Hill, the owner and head trainer at SSF. Marty was very informative and answered every question that I had. Walking into a boxing gym can be intimidating for anyone, myself included. Marty explained how his clients learn basic boxing techniques incorporated with a high interval workout that guarantees to burn calories. No matter your skill level, this place is amazing if you're looking to get in shape and have fun doing it. Marty encourages anyone to participate in a free trial class to see if it is a good fit for your fitness goals. My first night, needless-to-say, was intense but in a good way. That night, I realized I was extremely out of shape and going to a local gym and lifting weights on my own was not going to help me reach my personal fitness goals. EVERYONE in the class was encouraging, supportive, and willing to help you learn proper technique. Marty stressed during our initial conversation that SSF was a "Family" and I sure felt that way my first night (during my free trial). Afterwards, I signed up immediately. I have only missed one class in over two weeks and I will confess that each day is different. Therefore, if getting bored during a fitness class is your main concern, you certainly will not experience that here at SSF. I came in from LA to visit some family in Atlanta and found Sweet Science online, when I did I found a few other people I know from LA have trained with Marty prior. I booked a session online, which was super easy and Coach Marty shot me a note to discuss our session a few hours later. He set my session according to our conversation and tweaked things along the way that he saw I needed to work on. I found the session extremely technical and exactly what I asked for. Marty is an amazing coach and really great guy as well. I would recommend him and the gym to anyone in Atlanta or for those coming into visit that want to train. This so called boxing gym is not for black males. I called the gym to schedule a appointment to possibly join. My best friend is a Doctor @ Emory, he was going to pay for my membership . I had to get more information . When I initially called the owner was (Very Rude). So, I told a drive over to see if his attitude would be different. It was Worst than over the phone . He told me that he he very Boxed Professionally. But he said he could make a person a great boxer within 6 months. Laughable. He was not professional at all. When o walked in there was not greeting. I felt unwelcome, he keep getting smart with me. As if he was saying he did not want a Black American in his business . He is a African American. The flyer he had posted outside of his gym said on the flyer, Free trail session . He then said I do not do that anymore rudely. But, later he gave me one of the flyers from outside of the gym door. So if it is not valid why give me one? I went to leave and he said to me Good Luck Lol as of I was desperate to join his gym. Sad that a black guy that got his name on a lease can treat people like this. He deserves Zero stars. Of course his other nationality clients want experience this type of unprofessionalism. He was Arrogant in the worst way. Black Americans and public be warned . He has never Won a professional Boxing Match but he can turn you into a champ lol. His words. Recently moved to Atlanta from Los Angeles and even while being back home I would hear people talking about Sweet Science. As soon as I moved, my first stop was Sweet Science and it didn't disappoint. I've been boxing for a little over two years and Sweet Science is the real deal. The coaching that Marty gives you is powerful. You can feel with every ounce of him that he wants you to become a great boxer. His passion overflows class as he teaches you as if you were a professional preparing for a fight.
