We used to order a lot of birthday cakes from this Deerfields Bakery.  They always did an excellent…read morejob.  Our daughter's favorite customized cake was an 8" to 10" chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling, and chocolate whipped cream frosting, which was huge, rich, and delicious.  Ever since she was little, it also became a tradition to pick up a big smiley face cookie for her whenever we picked up a cake. Recently, we had ordered a small cake from the Deerfields Bakery in Buffalo Grove, and really loved it.   A few days ago, while I was in the Deerfield area, I decided to stop by the Deerfield location for the first time in at least five or six years. This bakery has gone through a nice renovation. It is clean, bright, modern, and pleasant, just like the one in Buffalo Grove, except that it is a lot smaller.  Since it was after 4:00 pm when I went, within an hour of closing, some of the shelves were already empty, which is understandable and probably a good sign for the business. Out of nostalgia, I purchased a big smiley face cookie for $3.95.   The girl who helped me was very polite and friendly even though I was just purchasing one cookie.  That made the visit even more pleasant.  However, I would likely get some other baked goods instead next time, as this cookie and its icing were quite hard, and just tasted like a lot of sugar. I am deducting one star mostly because of the parking situation.  There are only four parking spaces by the building, once these spaces are occupied, customers have to walk to the parking lot in the back that's diagonal from the bakery, and cross a busy driveway shared with a bank.  This can be especially inconvenient when carrying a cake. Since the Buffalo Grove location is much larger and has its own parking lot that makes parking easy, I will most likely continue going to the Buffalo Grove location unless I happen to be in the Deerfield area.

I open it and it is a gift from a place I'd made a rather large purchase. Thanks! When I opened the outer box the wonderful smell of butter and other sweet fragrances hit my nose. As I open the inner box I see four (4) huge cookies! they come wrapped in cellophane bags with a cute ribbon. There were no names of the flavored cookies, yet I took an educated guess. These cookies are the largest (In depth) cookies I have ever encountered. Thick and delicious with rich butter flavor is the best way for me to describe them. At the thickest section of the cookie - unfortunately was of a sandy milli consistency, yet the butter taste was throughout. I will say that if I am in the area of where the cookie shop is, I will definitely stop in to purchase some - as I sure hope they are clearly marked/identified. P.S. Our first meeting wasn't great, and we were unsure about moving forward. Thankfully, they allowed us to come back for a second visit--and that visit completely blew us away with their incredible customer service. The baker took her time listening to our vision and thoughtfully sketched out a cake design that perfectly fit our theme. She also offered insightful suggestions that really helped bring our ideas to life. On the wedding day, the cake looked absolutely beautiful and tasted even better. We chose a white cake with a French custard dulce de leche filling, and we had guests who normally dislike sweets devour their slices! We can't wait to enjoy our anniversary layer next year.

Here's the truth. I think this is the first cupcake from a cupcake truck I have really ever enjoyed. Oh, BTW, I used to be a baker and know the difference ;-) * Soft moist chocolate cake...and I don't typically like chocolate cake; * Ooey gooey caramel goodness drizzled on top and slightly mixed into the cake batter; * The perfect amount of nuts sprinkled on top; * Individually packaged in a plastic container to keep it fresh; * Perfectly sweet; and * Fork-worthy...perhaps too soft to pick up (I didn't mind). I have gone into their shop for random sweet treats and even ordered my wedding cake from here. Everyone is always easy to work with and their food is very high quality. My only complaint is that they have significantly reduced the area to sit in their cafe. Now the tables are closer together making to difficult for the customers and staff to move around without knocking into each other. I recommend Sweet T's Bakery and Cake Studio!

So when i'm planning my own parties I try to make sure I have fabulous appetizers and desserts. This past weekend we celebrated my son's bar mitzvah. We chose to bring in our own dessert vendors. I knew we would want Jo Jos Shake Bar since it's always a hit with kids (and adults too), but also wanted to have a fabulous sweets table. For my daughter's bat mitzvah we did it at ravinia festival and they had brought in a bunch of different dessert vendors including Desiree Chocolates. Her desserts were not only delicious (i ate the leftovers for about a month from my freezer), but also absolutely beautiful. When my event planner suggested we reach out to Desiree for sweets I was all in. Desiree made the process pretty easy. We set up a call to discuss our needs and decided on a sweets table + a churro cart. Then many months later we got together for a dessert tasting, which my son claims was the most fun part of the mitzvah planning process. We loved it all, but even added a few of our favorites to her menu- cheesecakes, carrot cake to name a few. The sweets table and churros cart were absolutely perfection and I love how she did a great job of tying my son's tennis theme into it too. I had a few bites of sweets that night since i was too busy socializing to eat much, but i took home a few trays of desserts and fudge and have been munching on them ever since. This time I only took home a bit because i didn't want to eat it for a month like i did last time, but we did have quite a bit leftover - probably since a lot of people filled up on Jo Jos Shake Bar. However, I've had so many compliments since the party on Desiree's cake pops, churros and other desserts so they were a big hit once again. I would definitely use Desiree for future events again- she makes fabulous sweets and displays it all beautifully!

What an amazing offering of items to choose from! The cake pops were well received, and who doesn't love a chocolate covered oreo? I think I had one of those Dubai candy bars that are all the rage (or maybe were all the rage, I'm often behind the trends) and it was one of the best things I've eaten period. The custom churro bar is lots of fun and would be easy to set up wherever you need it. And everything is decorated perfectly, from the confections themselves to the tables and plates they sit on! Desiree Chocolates is a great option for whatever event you've got, just bring your sweet tooth!

I reached out to a few local bakeries and each claimed that would be difficult. And then I reached out to Wendy from Peacelovecookies based on the recommendation of a friend. I'm not sure how it took me so long to find Wendy and her delicious cookies (especially since we have kids in the same grade at the same school), but I'm probably going to be her best customer going forward. Wendy responded right away to my LOL Surprise Doll cookie cake request. She said a LOL Doll out of buttercream would be difficult, but would be happy to use cake toppers. I've included a pic of the finished product and my daughter and friends literally gasped when they saw it. Wendy made the dreams come true of these LOL Surprise Doll obsessed girls. She also made me take a few extra trips to the gym this week because the cookie cake was sooo good. I thought I loved cookie cakes, but all the others I've enjoyed paled in comparison to Wendys cookie cake. We had lots of leftovers and I couldn't stop eating it for days...and it seemed to taste better each day. i've already ordered custom lego cookies and rice krispie treats for my son's upcoming lego themed birthday bash. I find her pricing to be reasonable in comparison to the rest of the cookie world. For example the amazing 12 inch cookie cake was $35 to feed about 16-20 people (9 inch is $25). Can't wait for more cookies...and (i guess) trips to the gym.
