Serving cake at a socially distanced party during pandemic probably isn't a good idea so I spent some time thinking about the best alternatives...and cake jars for the win! This way you can still have your cake, but in the safest way possible! I reached out to a few bakeries in the area asking for pricing on cake jars and Sweet Thing Bake Shop was the winner since they offered a smaller jar (2 oz) at a great price ($4). I figured the smaller the better since I often see dessert left untouched at parties, although never the case with yours truly. I picked them up the day before the party, but was told they stay good for a couple of weeks in the fridge. Finding the actual location proved to be quite difficult, but think my gps is to blame for that one. Once there they nicely ran them out to my car since they were in a hurry to go somewhere and I was in a hurry to get on a work call. From my understanding this isn't a bakery you can stop in, but one you visit for special orders made ahead of time. If I had known the cake jars were going to be so delicious I would have ordered bigger ones. Everyone gobbled them up in seconds and raved about how good they were. I have to admit both the vanilla and chocolate were quite delicious and will definitely be my dessert of choice for all small socially distanced bashes during these crazy times. Love this place. Sorry it took me awhile to write a review - thanks @andrea for reminding me when you posted your revieiw. My friend Jenny recommended this place to me and she told me everything she was addicted to so I had to give a few items a try. The sweet thing oreos doozie were delicious and it was very sweet. It's filled with buttercream! I only ate half or else I might get a sugar rush and then want a nap :). My friend's favorite is the Rugelach - Chocolate Chips. The cake in the jar was a big hit! I loved the chocolate lover flavor. I will definitely order these again. We ordered a dozen and they come with cute little spoons. My kids loved the bite size treats and loved the sprinkles in it. The first time I tried to get here, I ended up at a car dealership. The business is parallel to the car dealership (away from the highway). Pick up is at noon. They send you an email to remind you of your pick up. The first time I picked up, they had my items in a white bag outside on a cart. The second time, I knocked on the door and picked my items up. Oh. My. Goodness. In full disclosure, I won a recent giveaway from Sweet Thing Bake Shop for a 6 inch double-layer rainbow cookie cake. I wasn't asked for a review or anything in exchange for the cookie cake. My review would be the same if I had paid for this myself. I am, apparently, just the luckiest person on Instagram this week. The cake was delivered to our home on Tuesday morning. It was well-packaged in a sturdy box, plastic wrap, and a plastic collar to keep everything contained. Though it looks like I benefited from local delivery, I have no doubt that the cookie cake would have been fine through courier shipping like UPS. I bake quite a bit so it's always an extra special treat to have something made by someone else, especially something that's adorable *and* delicious. And this hit both marks. The cookie cake is colorful with rainbow sprinkles throughout the cookies and also used for decorating. I was slightly concerned that this would be too sweet. You know, that kind of cloying sweetness that makes your throat ache a little or your tongue feel fuzzy? There was no reason for concern. The balance of the cookie and buttercream is perfect and it's clear they've spent a lot of time perfecting that buttercream recipe to be a complement to the baked good rather than something trying to steal the show or mask inadequate baked goods. The texture of the cookie is perfection - soft enough to bite into, sturdy enough to not be mushy or sponge-like. When I initially won the giveaway, a few friends asked me for a review because they saw my entry and were intrigued. I've messaged all of them and encouraged them to either order for shipping or come visit and sit in my kitchen while we sample more goods. I'm already browsing the menu, dreaming of what I'll order for my own birthday in a few months so I don't have to bake for myself. Thanks, again, Sweet Thing Bake Shop! I hosted a special occasion family dinner in a restaurant for 32 people in Northbrook, IL. I live in California, so all planning had to be done online. The restaurant we booked gave us the OK to bring in our own desserts, so I began my search for a well rated bakery that could make an assortment of cookies and bars. I needed a location would be close to the restaurant as I'm unfamiliar with the area and didn't want to be driving across town. I searched Yelp and stumbled on Sweet Thing Bake Shop. While all of the reviews were good, there were very few of them, and I hesitate to trust just a handful of positive reviews. I commented to our contact at the restaurant that I was having a hard time finding Yelp reviews and she told me in the Northbrook area Google reviews are more widely used. I checked there and also found just a handful of reviews. Not finding any better options, I reached out via the Sweet Thing website with questions about their products and had a quick response. I decided to go for it and ordered a Medium Assorted Signature Tray which looked great online. We were not disappointed. The assortment was beautifully packaged on a round platter as pictured. We decided to have the restaurant put the cookies and bars on platters for serving - they looked beautiful and tasted great. The bars were particularly thick, yummy and filled with lots of flavors, cookies were chewy and flavorful. I was told the Medium Tray had about 100 pieces - we had lots left over which we served the following night at another family gathering. Thank you Sweet Thing for the delicious desserts, quick online response, and easy ordering. My only question to Sweet Thing: Why do you charge $1 for delivery when picking up $100 tray of cookies and bars at your location? I can understand the charge when you're actually delivering, but for customer pick up???? read more
