On those late days of spring -- when Chicago and the suburbs finally thaw out after months of frigid temperatures and biting precipitation -- residents emerge from their homes in search of one thing. Ice cream. After spending the day outside and then grilling out, we (obviously) needed ice cream to complete our Saturday. We popped into Scoops and Cookies because it's not far from our house and because Homer's Ice Cream is always an enticing offer. They have a *ton* of flavors. The screens above the counter showcase everything, while you can see some of the flavors in the case. We sampled a few before deciding on a scoop of cappuccino chip in a sugar cone (mine) and two scoops of butter pecan and cookie dough in a dish (his). We were helped by who we assumed to be the owner, who was friendly and also keeping things moving as groups (understandably) hemmed and hawed over their flavor choices. While we weren't here for cookies this time, they piqued our interest and we'll explore that more on our next visit. There are quite a few tables inside with lots of seating, and everything was clean. Did this just become our new favorite ice cream place? Maybe! read more

I almost forgot to review this spot! Mostly because I only got cookies and I think the concept of warm cookies and cold ice cream is the point here. That and their edible cookie dough, which looked really good... next time! I got a variety of cookies and I love how they're nice and warm. We got gift cards so I can't really comment about the price but I know I can about the food. I got the edible cookie dough + ice cream combo and my friend got a ice cream sandwich. This is a cute little ice cream shop located on the backside of Deerfield Commons. If you never venture back there, you wouldn't know it existed and that's a shame. There was a friendly high school kid working behind the counter and doing homework or something on the side. We tried many of the different flavors and I settled on the peach. It was really refreshing and the perfect amount of sweet and fruity. They had yummy looking cookies and edible cookie dough in a freezer. The place is clean with a number of small tables and a large television in the center of the room. There were sports on the TV when we were there. It's a cute neighborhood ice cream spot with tasty flavors and tasty looking cookies. If you twist my arm gently, I'll go back and try one. Pretty good ice creams. Most of the stuff are pretty generic, but they have dairy free options like sorbets in the back not on display. They have Hawaiian kona coffee based ice creams. When we entered the staff greeted us and offered to let us try some flavors. They so many different options. After another very hot June day at the pool I took my daughter and her friend here to check out the grand opening of Scoops and Cookies. Sadly I'm dairy and gluten free these days so I went w/ the raspberry sorbet option, which was very refreshing...and a very nice portion size for a small. However, if I was just gluten free they did have a delicious gluten free cookie that could (almost) rival a crumbl cookie. And apparently they have a gluten free cookie everyday. My daughter and her friend went for ice cream (moose tracks for my daughter) topped with a giant scoop of cookie dough. It looked almost too sweet, but they didn't seem to mind and licked every last drop. I was expecting a line on this hot day since they are brand new, but there were about 10 of using the store and it all moved very quickly. It's also a little tricky to find, but it's behind Potbelly's and there's parking back there too. If summer continues being this hot we need all the ice cream we can get....and of course cookies welcome year round! read more

I grew up in HP/DF and was home to visit from Minnesota, my friends that are still in the area mentioned a new ice cream shop and they took me in for a visit - I was even more surprised that not only was there Homer's ice cream, but homemade cookies (to rival Crumbl) and cookie dough by the scoop! Scoops & Cookies has so many options to choose from, with six different cookie dough flavors, twelve ice cream flavors and (about) 10 specialty cookie flavors. The selection itself is amazing, and the pink walls and vibe of the place makes it perfect local dessert shop. Service here was also spectacular - based on reviews I believe the owner served us (with some staff) and even with our group of six we got our goodies fast while being met with kindness. I ordered their mint cookie with Oreo ice cream. It was deliciously warm and gooey with classic Homer's ice cream. You can't go wrong! I would definitely want to support this local business over Crumbl when I want a specialty cookie. I wish I could give another 5 stars for the owner - my group was sitting outside late Wednesday night and he was kind enough to bring out a whole box of some warm leftover cookies! That kindness goes a very long way and it made our night. Overall, I would say Scoops and Cookies is a must stop on the North Shore. The ice cream is good but incredibly skimpy on the scoops. Supposedly the mini scoop is 1.5 scoop and it was barely a scoop at all. Very overpriced for barely giving you any ice cream, $5.50 for hardly a full (small) scoop of ice cream is ridiculous. I wish I had taken a photo of all of our scoops because this was truly bad. We've been here many times before and not had this experience. It may just been who was working today but very disappointing. My husband and I had to walk behind the strip mall twice to find this restaurant. Once we found Scoops and Cookies, we were warmly greeted by the owner. He led us through his offerings and sizes. We ordered the coffee toffee ice cream (Kona Hawaiian coffee ice cream with Heath Bar pieces) and a scoop of chocolate edible cookie dough on top. The micro size that we ordered was a (big) scoop and a half. We wanted to try the edible cookie dough after a recommendation from friend. The edible cookie dough was delicious. It is dense and packed with flavor. I'm definitely going to come back to try more of this. The ice cream was good and had a strong coffee flavor, even though I couldn't get a lot of the toffee flavor. The cookies that are offered are not only baked fresh but are kept in a warmer at 120 degrees. This keeps the cookie warm and allows it to melt in your mouth. Scoops and Cookies is warm and inviting. I highly recommend this neighborhood ice cream shop. I will be coming back to try more flavors of cookies, ice cream, and edible cookie dough. read more

A decent selection of ice cream, but if I ever find myself in Deerfield again, I'd probably just get two cookies. I'm not entirely familiar with the brand of ice cream that Scoops and Cookies uses, but there were about ~16 flavors... and all but one had a vanilla base. Or were that odd Superman flavor. Or bubble gum. Which, I'm not entirely against... but also I'm not 10 anymore. Since there wasn't a super chocolatey one, I figured I'd go with the second best thing, which is chocolate chips. (Oddly enough, there weren't any flavors with caramel either.) It was all right. Nice big chunks of chocolate at least. With the name of the restaurant being "Scoops and Cookies" I figured I'd take it as advertised, and stick a scoop of chocolate chip on top of a triple chocolate cookie. The cookie comes straight out of the oven, which is awesome. The ice cream immediately hardens it up some, which is... not so great, but fortunately the chocolate chips held on to a lot of that heat, so I was able to get a lot of distinct cookie-and-ice cream bites.
