Heard so many good things about this bakery so purchased over a dozen of assorted cupcakes for my guests but was horribly disappointed with the taste and quality, especially because of the higher price they demand. My order cost nearly $40. All the cupcakes were extremely small, very petite, as if they cut the amount of batter in half for each serving; the "buttercream" frosting tasted mostly like shortening without the butter; and the "cream cheese" frosting seemed to lack any cream cheese; additionally, the Red Velvet cupcake was tasteless and didn't appear to contain any cocoa. Maybe they had decent products at one time but they obviously employ substantial cost-cutting measures that has rendered their products worthless because I was embarrassed to serve these and outraged with the quality for the price that I paid. I am from Los Angeles, but I come to Chicago every couple months. The bakery goods are absolutely amazing and I was really wondering who would give this bakery a one star. The only thing I noticed was there was one woman there who was actually pretty rude and it was funny because all the complaining was about the service or the rudeness of the employees. It all started with their ho ho's that took a baker's vision and paired with old school after school treats for boomers and made them into today's disconcerting palate experience. Nice way to start. There are no shortage of good bakers and bakeries in the area so usually my issue is deciding where to order a cake from. However, when it comes to carrot cake (my husband's favorite) Bent Fork wins the award! I ordered a few weeks ahead with no issues, although also got a confetti cake just a few days ahead of time. Both were amazing, but I can't imagine not getting carrot cake in the future from here because it's so good. I tried once at my husband's party and the next day to just eat a few bites, but impossible not to eat an entire slice. Annnnnd it's carrots so that makes it healthy - riggghhht? My one complaint is that they can't make it without nuts for my nut allergic son, but they are probably part of the reason it tastes so good. The Bent Fork Bakery provided the entire sweet table ( 8 trays) and the wedding cake for my son and daughter in law's wedding a couple of weeks ago. All I can say is 'WOW' !!!! Every single sweet treat was DELICIOUS!! Somehow every single item was perfectly balanced. Of course there were Bent Fork HoHos which are simply out of this world. There were also lemon squares and apple caramel squares. AMAZING! Guests also raved over the chocolate chip cookies and brownies. There was also an assortment of cupcakes - every single one delicious. The wedding cake was also impressive. Liz was especially attentive to the design and decoration for the wedding cake to ensure the bride was happy with the final product. Liz made the entire process easy and stress free. This is a cute little bakery/antique shop in downtown Highwood. Not much in the way of antiques, but the treats are delicious. They have everything from ruggelah to homemade hohos and a wide assortment of some of the best cookies I've ever had. Although I went in with a mission to buy a cupcake, I still wanted to take a good look at all the different goodies since it's my first time there. I was actually surprised by how much was still left on display--cookies, bars, cupcakes, cakes, macaroons, bread, chocolate-covered pretzels and more!
