Not really sure how this place is still open. Anytime you call, the workers are extremely rude and treat customers as an inconvenience. And the hours of operation that they advertise mean nothing to them. They just randomly close an hour or two early for no reason. Avoid this location at all costs. Poor customer service and communication . On Friday I call to get a cake for Saturday afternoon they said they would be able to do it but I would have to come in and place the order. I say ok I will be in there. I check the time and it say they close at 6pm. Not ONCE did the lady say they was closing early. So I get off a work at 5 I was at the bakery by 5:09 exactly! Doors locked I call. They pick up and say we closed I explained to her that online says they close at 6. Oh my, while on my last visit I was able to visit Sweetheart Bakery again. Talk about not being disappointing, I couldn't not have been more pleased! The customer service was spot on as soon as I entered the small bakery and the cupcakes, red velvet and strawberry/vanilla batter were outstanding! I used to love this place years ago. Unfortunately they fell of a little over the last five years or so. I still go for the occasional cupcake every now and then though. I went today because I promised my daughter and niece cupcakes as a treat off they were good to grandma while I went grocery shopping. I stored in and the quality of the products was just about the same as it normally is. However I was disgusted because of the three employees at the front counter only one was wearing a mask ( and she had it pulled down beneath her face and nose, so I can't even see her point in wearing one). The point of males is to protect others from your germs, so I would suspect of you are handling ready to eat items in the age of COVID 19 you would wear a mask. I left without cupcakes and just got them store bought ones at the grocery store. It's sad that the businesses our community has patronized for years doesn't care enough about our health to do something as simple as have all employees to wear masks. WRONG. * Wording was in the wrong color * Wording was not put on cake as instructed and clearly written out on order form * More roses put on cake and in different position than example I was shown * They added a ruffle/ribbon around top edge when asked not to. * I could have overlooked some of this is the cake was amazing....but THE CAKE WAS TERRIBLE. The cake had an awful taste and it was SO DRY, pieces were falling apart as we cut them. I drove 30 minutes to the bakery twice to place my order and then make a few updates, because I was warned by one of the employees to not try make changes over the phone. As soon as they opened the box I noticed the mistakes. Did it look pretty? Sure. BUT IT WAS NOT WHAT I ORDERED. The women who took the order/changes took it correctly, whoever was in the back baking/decorating dropped the ball. And then nobody does a double-check to make sure the cake is what the customer ordered? I was then told there was nothing they could do, and was given the option to pay the balance I owed and take the cake, or leave with nothing. It was like I was the guilty person for not liking the cake that THEY DID INCORRECTLY! It was disgusting the way the woman in the bakery acted. I am 25 years old and Sweetheart Bakery has been the ONLY bakery that my family has patronized. Not only did I love their prices, but they also taste great! I called for a cake quote this past Monday (8/22/16) and was told the price of my cake and that there would be an $11 deposit. I went into the Bakery with my boyfriend on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 and took a number as I always did. After not being greeted and standing there for about 10 minutes, the woman who had been standing at the counter staring at me finally let me know that she could help me. This was the start of my downhill battle. I informed her that I wanted to discuss how the cake would look before e-mailing my picture to ensure there would be no mistakes. She then told me to immediately e-mail it and when I asked her for the address she shoved a business card in my face and walked away. Upon her return, she was EXTREMELY unpleasant and had the attitude that I was wasting her time. I remained patient because I was ordering this surprise cake for my Brother-in-Law as a cake for my Sister and wanted to ensure that my interaction with this woman would not affect the quality of my cake. After speaking with this woman for 20 minutes, she then informed me that she didn't say certain things could be placed on the cake when in the beginning of the conversation she actually DID say them. After the cake decorations were confirmed and I had e-mailed the picture, she then let me know I would have to pay a $25 deposit. I let her know that was not the information I was given over the phone and that I would only be paying the $11, especially considering that she had $11 written in the deposit sheet that she was filling out. This rude woman then said "well we have many girls working here and somebody told you wrong so you need to pay the $25." I am the CUSTOMER. I have no control over the improperly trained employees, however Good Customer Service would require that they honor the price I was given over the phone. She then went into the back and out comes the manager. She then rudely demands that I pay $16, and I inform her that I have been patronizing this location and never have I had an issue with them not honoring what I was told over the phone. She then accepted the $11 deposit. I am SO disappointed in how not only has their customer service has gone downhill, but also how even the manager was rude so that even if I did have a complaint it would go unnoticed. This is the 3rd time I have been back and have been treated badly and for that I will no longer return. Sweetheart Bakery, you need new Management and Employee's at your Harper Woods location because they no longer look to make the process of buying a cake for a loved one fun anymore. The vibe in there is delightfully old school-I was greeted with all the sights, smells, and sounds of a lively bakery with happy employees getting ready for Christmas. The cake I ordered for my man's birthday was done on time, delicious, and they even prettied it up with a message and balloons for free! There's fresh-baked bread, all kinds of cakes and desserty-goodies, and they even have a deli where they do subs and more. What struck me the most though was the feeling of fun from the employees. Decided to stop in today as a pick-me-up after my Grandma's funeral, as I was visiting Michigan after moving to Florida 6 years ago. I wanted to see my favorite bakery that my family always ordered my birthday cake from (since my first birthday) just to see how it was doing, as well as send back some nice treats to Florida. I really loved the interior changes and the staff did such an excellent job on the baked goods that I wanted to take a picture of it to show my family back in Florida, however, there was a woman (short, middle aged with blonde hair) behind the counter who very rudely shouted at a few of us (I wasn't the only one taking pics) to not take any photos. My Mother, who was also with me, explained to the woman that we were from out of town and wanted to show our other relatives, but the woman still shouted at us rudely to not take any pictures (stating that there were signs saying not to do it, though they were NOT displayed in clear view; another clerk showed it to us inside of the glass counter) and to grab a number to get in line. A few of the people, including myself was appalled and embarrassed by the woman for the way she was rudely treating us. Even though we already pulled a number, we gave the ticket to someone else who didn't have one and decided to leave out empty handed. I am very saddened and disappointed to see such horrible treatment of customers, especially by a worker at the very place that I've always admired and that inspired me to work for a bakery in the hopes of eventually working for Sweetheart. Sadly, my family and I won't be visiting there the next time we come back to Michigan, no matter how good their treats looked...we'll take our business elsewhere in town. read more

For over 20 plus years my family and I ordered birthday and special occasion cakes from here. We all have left the state, but I'll be visiting the state this up coming weekend and decided to order a cake to bring back to GA with me for an earlier birthday gift for my niece. I called the Kelly Road store and Cynthia took my order. I'm not sure if it was my cell phone reception or she was hard of hearing, but she was very rude and not only that she repeated my card number - number for number out loud for the "deposit" I was required to leave for the special ordered cherry walnut cake. If I had not told my Mother I was going to bring the cake back, I would have just hung up the phone and took my chance of stopping by the store (maybe) after the rude employee I may have left well enough along and left the previous years memories be that. Not the best area but definitely the best bakery! Has always been my favorite and has never disappointed. I order all of my party cakes and cupcakes and also have my wedding cake on order right now. The frosting is sweet without that grainy sugar crunch. You can't beat the prices either! (And while they do have a store in Warren, I wouldn't recommend placing a special order at that location. The Kelly rd location makes all of the cakes and cupcakes and just sends them out so the quality is always good, but the people at the Warren location will take your order and just fax it to Kelly. I have dealt with them twice, since I live closer to that location, and both times they have been clueless and no help!) 2/13/2015 - The service of this location has gone down and I will never, ever visit this location again! I have been getting birthday cakes and other baked goods from this location for years. But when I called this morning at 10 am to place an order for Paczki's I was placed on hold for six minutes. And then when my call was picked up the woman said, "Hello." I said, "Hello." And was about to place my order when I was promptly hung up on. I called back a series of times letting the phone ring and it rang until the ringing switched to a busy signal. It took exactly six calls before I reached a human and when I did I stated what happened on my previous call. At which time another location was mentioned. And I pointed out it was the location on Kelly Road. When I told her of what happened instead of trying to accommodate me herself she wanted to throw me back on hold to probably either hang up on me once again or give me back to that rude person I started with. I will never be back to this location or any Sweetheart Bakery for that matter. Instead I will be purchasing my Paczki's from Josefs on 21150 Mack Ave., 313-881-5710. I have been coming to sweetheart bakery for over 30 yrs. Now for the past year I have been bringing home items that I am finding mold on. Day old donuts cakes and pastries we have found not to be day old but DAYS old. The prices are going up and the product is no longer one that I care to buy any more. Sweethearts customers service in Harper woods is terrible and are knowingly selling moldy and out dated item to their customers. This place now need to be investigated by the health department.
