Meh... Bought a pie there the other night and for the most part, I guess it was a good pie. However, I have a hard time understanding why the pie was $38? I hesitated on the purchase, but I thought I'd give it a try. I thought for 38 bucks this thing must be fantastic...it wasn't. I may not have the most discerning palette, but I've eaten $20 pies and $10 pies that were every bit as good. We ordered Two ginger (lebkuchen) cookies, two peanut butter hazelnut cookies, coconut macaroon, 2 sour cream cinnamon coffee cake, oatmeal raisin cookie, 2 lemon blueberry scone, orange cranberry scone. I couldn't wait to try everything before getting home. The lemon blueberry scone has a really nice crunch to the outer crust. It's got some big blueberries, smaller wild berries would be even better. The taste is subtle but quite nice. This would be fantastic with a berry or light herbal tea. The lebkuchen has a nice chewiness to it and is nicely spiced. The oatmeal raisin cookie is quite good, chewy and perfectly cooked. The peanut butter hazelnut is quite nice, the smells of the peanut butter and hazelnut hits your nose even before the first bite. The sour cream coffee cake is yummy. It's got such a nice hint and essence of cinnamon. It's a nice cakey batter of goodness. I will definitely be back for more. Nicely done. read more

Husband stopped to find an eclair for himself and a cruffin for me yesterday. Eclair was more like a sample size, no cruffins, and the replacement muffin was the worst I have ever eaten (dry, dark & heavy batter and the three berries were very sparse (Picture 1). A great disappointment for our first visit. Will think twice about a return visit. Had I been on the other side of Mack, I'd have gone to Josef's, where I've not been disappointed in the 50 years we've lived here. CRUFFIN. Now that that's out of the way... So I have been in here a couple times now and it's a great little bakery. Honestly nothing that blew me away, but a great local spot to pick things up occasionally for my work group. This all changed this week when I stopped by on Fat Tuesday due to a social media post I saw on the cruffin they are making now. These things are incredible. I hesitate to say this, but multiple people in my group at work said it was one of the best things they have ever eaten. They are croissants that year to be muffins. Everything you want in a croissant - flaky goodness, crisp, flavorful - and in the shape of a muffin - and then they fill them! Delicious creams, Nutella (omg), a jam, etc. There was a line in there when I went to grab some and everyone wanted the same thing. Last Saturday morning I stopped in for 6 cookies. I bought 3 honey lemon which were fresh, moist and decent size. They were $1.00 each. Also bought fall leaves sugar cookies which were smaller and pretty. These were crisp sugar cookies nicely decorated. They were also $1.00 each. Many choices to choose from. The place smells so good, it makes how I think heaven would smell (not a religious post) Only thing missing were clouds and angels . The peach pastry was so dam good, I can't even think of how to put my satisfaction to words. The pumpkin pie slice was like taking a time machine back to the small farm town I grew up, and coming home to find my mother made homemade pumpkin pie with fresh whipped topping. That freaking good to yank that memory out the back of my old mind. The cookies were real good and the oatmeal ones were my favorite, I could swear there was molasses used in the recipe. I will ask the next time I go! But the topper was the Russian Tea Cakes (sorry but that's what I know them as) they were so dam good. And I bought a dozen, so I could have a few with a fresh cup of tea. It conjured up memories of my childhood again...... and for that alone I recommend this place. Delight Bakery just as the name suggests is an absolute Delight and is another Grosse Pointe gem! Everything in the bakery is prepared on site by the owner. I especially love the Rice Pudding! I grew up eating rice pudding but let me say that Delight Bakery's Rice Pudding is extraordinary! It's thick, creamy and custard like. Delicious! I'm not a huge fan of pie but I am a fan of all of Delight's pies, the reason is the Crust!! I don't know how he does it but it's perfect. If you don't think you can eat a whole pie they offer small ones. I've had the apple, pecan, blueberry, and of course Pumpkin Pie at Thanksgiving. The cookies and cupcakes are yummy and beautifully decorated to reflect the season. The scones are also delicious. This place is, well...Delightful! There is nothing like getting up on a Saturday morning to a fresh croissant. This is the real deal. The wonderful pastry has a great flaky slightly crispy exterior and soft buttery layers on the inside. They are amazing on their own but when you add one of the fillings, its equally has heavenly. One of my other favorite treats are the cheddar scones. Such an powerful burst of flavor with cheddar and buttery goodness. Hmmm, I sense a theme. Anyway, I have tried a few other things (muffins, apple pie) and nothing disappoints. I am excited to see they have branched out into various cakes. Their caramel topped cheese cake is to die for. Definitely will be back to check out the other new goodies they have. One thing that I LOVE is their display. It is one of the most beautiful display of bakery convections that I have seen. It has an old school european bakery feel. Everything looks so perfect and makes you feel like a kid in a candy store.
