    Lamb biryani
    Phuong D.

My friends and I made a large late night order 30 mins before closing time and the order was completed quickly. The food was rich with plenty of meat, sauce and rice, and prices were reasonable. We were all very satisfied with the food and everything arrived well-packaged (with the exception of one tiny leak in the chicken Tikka marsala). The spice level is pretty accurate (as in hot is not for beginners). Overall very happy that we ordered from here and I would definitely order again to try out different things on the menu.

    Chicken biryani....:( dry roasted chicken

I ordered for the first time today (a Saturday)1 at 6:25pm. Pretty empty. Tables sticky when I waited for the food. Didn't matter to me too much the overall decor was pleasant. I ordered at 6:25 they estimated 10-15 minutes. My food wasn't done until 6:50. That's fine, under half an hour for take out is usually acceptable especially cause this is a restaurant not a fast food take out place. It seemed like it was a dad and son running the place and that made it pretty authentic. Polite and respectful. However they don't seem like they have a lot of business. As for the food I ordered chicken biryani and chicken curry. I'm hoping this will beat zaikas and maliks for Indian food as it is very close to my house. It has 4.5 star rating before I even tried it. They gave me mango chutney for me to try in a little container. Everything was neatly packaged in the bag to go. Yes! Those tight sealed containers that I can reuse! Portions didn't seem too right for he chicken curry. They left out the plain naan that's supposed to be included with the curry. Oh no. Chicken biryani doesn't look like how it's supposed to. The chicken is roasted chicken almost like a tandoori which I definitely wanted to avoid. Not the type you use in biryani! I feel like I ordered chicken tandoori with rice. And I hate tandoori unfortunately! Doesn't mix well. Garlic Naan was thick. Different than any Naans I had which are normally thinner. It makes it more bready than it needs to but I don't mind. Chicken curry was more of a sauce than curry. The sauce was thin fell off my fork. Ugh! Really Disappointed!! REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS PLACE! Came here starving after not eating all day didn't even finish anything they gave me. Ugh! Maybe they thought they could get away with serving me this cause I'm not Indian! Not worth $24.82 :( plus the $2 tip

Not much flavor to the food. I ordered paneer tikka masala. There was no spice whatsoever and it was lacking in flavor. Very disappointed.

It's enabled me to…read moresample foods from both cities....while New York will always be my 'restaurant Mecca', Philly's been a nice touch. I hadn't yet found a truly good Indian restaurant in Philly, until last night. Amma's came close, but fell short due to a goat dish I had with no goat! We happened upon Lilly's by looking for 'good restaurants in the Jenkintown area' on Yelp. Ironically, we'd walked by it dozens of times without noticing it, as there are other stores and restaurants in the area. It had several good reviews and since my partner had NEVER had Indian food before (I know it's hard to believe), I felt this was a must try! We walked in and immediately noticed how nice the interior looked - beautiful murals on the walls, a quiet, a relaxed atmosphere and everything looked clean and new. I knew exactly what we were going to order - the same two dishes I've been having for decades in New York, DC and other Indian restaurants I'd been to....Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh. Of course, we added an order of Naan. I initially judge these dishes based on the quality of the meat - in this case - chicken and lamb. I started with the Tikka Masala - as soon as I tasted a bite of the chicken, I knew we'd come to the right place! It was a delicious piece of lean, tender, white meat that had the most luscious, creamy, tomato based sauce - not too spicy ( we requested a very low 'heat'/spice level. My partner had never tasted a curry sauce before and was very impressed - she loved the dish! Next up, the Lamb Rogan Josh! I was pleasantly surprised to see large, lean, tender chunks of lamb in the pot that was served. The sauce was a little spicier than the Tikka Masala, but had an excellent flavor! It complimented the chicken dish perfectly. Both the lamb and the chicken were high quality meats that enabled these dishes to shine! Not to forget the delicious Naan - I took several scoops of both chicken and lamb and put them between a folded piece of Naan! Lilly's is a gem in Jenkintown - I'm glad we found this great Indian restaurant!

After craving for Tandoori chicken, I came here with a group of friends for an early dinner today…read more I must say that the dish was nothing short of amazing since the piping hot chicken pieces served on the sizzling plate was exactly what I wanted. The other dishes our table also ordered include Gobi Manchurian, Chapati Murg Tikk, Murg Adraki, garlic naan, onion naan, butter naan, butter chicken, Malai kofta, and Lachha Paratha. While I loved everything, butter chicken was my favorite. Butter naan was also melt-in-your-mouth good, and I simply couldn't get enough of it. What also tops the experience overall was the Mango Lassi drink. For some reason, I never got to try this drink until today. At the first sip, I couldn't believe how good it was. I soooo loved this slightly sweet, tangy, and aromatically wonderful mango drink so much that I must have more of it at the next chance I get. Service here is no frills yet adequate and professional. Our server was helpful in catering to our needy requests (we had to return butter chicken back initially since it was too spicy), and he definitely ran the show solo as he's the only one who manned the dining area while we were there with another table today. Since the place is a bit small and cozy, I liked that it provided an intimate setting for a get-together with friends or family. I wouldn't mind returning to Saffron to try out more of their other dishes soon.

COVID-19 TAKE OUT REVIEW…read more Spice Garden is a take away only Indian kitchen that focuses on Kerala style South Indian cuisine. It didn't have to change much of its operation to adjust to the pandemic. On the end of an old commercial strip near the bottom of Bustleton Avenue just a few blocks before Grant Avenue, it is designed to accept your phone order for pick up 30 - 40 minutes later. That was our plan after grocery shopping at the large Asian supermarket on St. Vincent's Street @ Roosevelt Avenue. We called from the parking lot, arriving about 15 minutes later because of light Memorial Day Weekend traffic. Now, I've had much better curries, masalas and garlic naans than are offered at Spice Garden, but on the other hand there is a trade-off of larger quantities and cheaper prices than available at standard Hindi houses, although the online menu states that recent cost of ingredient increases necessitated higher prices. That's just reality given these harsh times, and we didn't object to absorbing a couple of more bucks. Of course, by the time we reached home the blush was off the rose. Reheating was required to reanimated each dish. We found each was tasty and very well spiced. The two chicken plates led the way, with the Kerala Chicken Curry in a dark thick sauce and the Chicken Pepper Fry bone in and the hottest of the lot. It was a finger food delight. The Channa Masala was lighter cream colored mildly sweet veggie dish that was a good sop for the Garlic Naan. The other diced mixed veggie bowl was a strong counterpoint to the rest of the tongue challenging heat packed into the two plastic take home bags. The only real downside to the experience was the cleanliness of the small anteroom when I waited for the food. There were several insulated containers sitting on the floor, each more schmutzidick than the other. Clearly used for moving cooked food, there was no way they would pass a health department inspection. They left me wondering about the condition of the kitchen on the other side of that swinging door. I'll let you know if I experience any side effects from this meal, which appears to be enough for three dinners.

I decided to pick up the Beast Style Burger combo with unseasoned fries and a Chris Style burger. The burgers are available with two patties, three patties, or more. The patties are thin and browned perfectly, just the way I like them. I chose the double patty with bacon and lettuce and the sandwich was good. The bread was soft and chewy, I think toasting the bun would've made it much better but I didn't taste that they do that. The burger is topped with ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, onions, and American cheese. I would have preferred to have left the mayo off but the option wasn't available and they don't allow for special orders. Still, the burger was very good. The seasoning they use takes a little of getting use to but it makes the flavor unique. It says the seasoning is spicy red pepper, garlic, paprika, sugar, and a hint of lime. Better than your average fast food burger and I would put it in the league of a restaurant burger. Five Guys is my go to fast food burger and I might prefer this burger to them. The Chris style burger isn't terribly unique, it puts fries on top of the patty but you don't really notice it. Fries are crinkle cut which is not a cut I'm terribly fond of but these fries are good despite being crinkle cut. They're similar to the kind you get from Chickie's and Pete's but they're not overcooked like at that establishment. They offer something called Beast Style fries which are cheese fries topped with caramelized onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayo which did not appeal to me at all. If they offered regular old cheese fries, I would have picked that up in a heartbeat. MrBeast Burger is good but I think it could be better. They offer a patty melt burger I would love to try if I had the option to not have caramelized onions and add a second patty to it.
